For the choirmaster. According to Gittith (note: Gittith is probably a musical or liturgical term; here and in Psalms 8 and 84.). Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob.
Hebet an mit Psalmen und gebet her die Pauken, liebliche Harfen mit Psaltern!
81:2
Lift up a song, strike the tambourine, play the sweet-sounding harp and lyre.
Blaset im Neumond die Posaune, in unsrem Fest der Laubhütten!
81:3
Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.
Denn solches ist die Weise in Israel und ein Recht des Gottes Jakobs.
81:4
For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
Solches hat er zum Zeugnis gesetzt unter Joseph, da sie aus Ägyptenland zogen und fremde Sprache gehört hatten:
81:5
He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph (note: Or in Joseph) when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language:
„Da ich ihre Schulter von der Last entledigt hatte und ihre Hände der Körbe los wurden,
81:6
“I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.

You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the cloud of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah (note: Meribah means quarreling; see Exodus 17:7.). Selah
Höre, mein Volk, ich will unter dir zeugen; Israel, du sollst mich hören,
81:8
Hear, O My people, and I will warn you: O Israel, if only you would listen to Me!
dass unter dir kein anderer Gott sei und du keinen fremden Gott anbetest.
81:9
There must be no strange god among you, nor shall you bow to a foreign god.
Ich bin der HErr, dein Gott, der dich aus Ägyptenland geführt hat: Tue deinen Mund weit auf, lass mich ihn füllen!
81:10
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.
Aber mein Volk gehorcht nicht meiner Stimme, und Israel will mich nicht.
81:11
But My people would not listen to Me, and Israel would not obey Me.
So habe ich sie gelassen in ihres Herzens Dünkel, dass sie wandeln nach ihrem Rat.
81:12
So I gave them up to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.
Wollte mein Volk mir gehorsam sein und Israel auf meinem Wege gehen,
81:13
If only My people would listen to Me, if Israel would follow My ways,
so wollte ich ihre Feinde bald dämpfen und meine Hand über ihre Widersacher wenden,
81:14
how soon I would subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes!
und denen, die den HErrn hassen, müsste es wider sie fehlen; ihre Zeit aber würde ewiglich währen,
81:15
Those who hate the LORD would feign obedience, and their doom would last forever.
und ich würde sie mit dem besten Weizen speisen und mit Honig aus dem Felsen sättigen.”
81:16
But I would feed you the finest wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
