Alleluja. Confitemini Domino, et invocate nomen ejus ; annuntiate inter gentes opera ejus.
Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with splendor and majesty.
Cantate ei, et psallite ei ; narrate omnia mirabilia ejus.
He wraps Himself in light as with a garment; He stretches out the heavens like a tent,
Laudamini in nomine sancto ejus ; lætetur cor quærentium Dominum.
laying the beams of His chambers in the waters above, making the clouds His chariot, walking on the wings of the wind.
Quærite Dominum, et confirmamini ; quærite faciem ejus semper.
He makes the winds His messengers, flames of fire His servants (note: LXX He makes His angels winds, His servants flames of fire. Cited in Hebrews 1:7).
Mementote mirabilium ejus quæ fecit ; prodigia ejus, et judicia oris ejus :
He set the earth on its foundations, never to be moved.
semen Abraham servi ejus ; filii Jacob electi ejus.
You covered it with the deep like a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
Ipse Dominus Deus noster ; in universa terra judicia ejus.
At Your rebuke the waters fled; at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away—
Memor fuit in sæculum testamenti sui ; verbi quod mandavit in mille generationes :
the mountains rose and the valleys sank to the place You assigned for them—
quod disposuit ad Abraham, et juramenti sui ad Isaac :
You set a boundary they cannot cross, that they may never again cover the earth.
et statuit illud Jacob in præceptum, et Israël in testamentum æternum,
He sends forth springs in the valleys; they flow between the mountains.
dicens : Tibi dabo terram Chanaan, funiculum hæreditatis vestræ :
They give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
cum essent numero brevi, paucissimi, et incolæ ejus.
The birds of the air nest beside the springs; they sing among the branches.
Et pertransierunt de gente in gentem, et de regno ad populum alterum.
He waters the mountains from His chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of His works.
Non reliquit hominem nocere eis : et corripuit pro eis reges.
He makes the grass grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, bringing forth food from the earth:
Nolite tangere christos meos, et in prophetis meis nolite malignari.
wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil that makes his face to shine, and bread that sustains his heart.
Et vocavit famem super terram, et omne firmamentum panis contrivit.
The trees of the LORD have their fill, the cedars of Lebanon that He planted,
Misit ante eos virum : in servum venumdatus est, Joseph.
where the birds build their nests; the stork makes her home in the cypresses (note: Or pines or junipers or firs).
Humiliaverunt in compedibus pedes ejus ; ferrum pertransiit animam ejus :
The high mountains are for the wild goats, the cliffs a refuge for the rock badgers (note: Or the coneys or the hyraxes).
donec veniret verbum ejus. Eloquium Domini inflammavit eum.
He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows when to set.
Misit rex, et solvit eum ; princeps populorum, et dimisit eum.
You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the beasts of the forest prowl.
Constituit eum dominum domus suæ, et principem omnis possessionis suæ :
The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.
ut erudiret principes ejus sicut semetipsum, et senes ejus prudentiam doceret.
The sun rises, and they withdraw; they lie down in their dens.
Et intravit Israël in Ægyptum, et Jacob accola fuit in terra Cham.
Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening.
Et auxit populum suum vehementer, et firmavit eum super inimicos ejus.
How many are Your works, O LORD! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.
Convertit cor eorum, ut odirent populum ejus, et dolum facerent in servos ejus.
Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number, living things both great and small.
Misit Moysen servum suum ; Aaron quem elegit ipsum.
There the ships pass, and Leviathan, which You formed to frolic there.
Posuit in eis verba signorum suorum, et prodigiorum in terra Cham.
All creatures look to You to give them their food in due season.
Misit tenebras, et obscuravit ; et non exacerbavit sermones suos.
When You give it to them, they gather it up; when You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
Convertit aquas eorum in sanguinem, et occidit pisces eorum.
When You hide Your face, they are terrified; when You take away their breath, they die and return to dust.
Edidit terra eorum ranas in penetralibus regum ipsorum.
When You send Your Spirit (note: Or breath), they are created, and You renew the face of the earth.
Dixit, et venit cœnomyia et ciniphes in omnibus finibus eorum.
May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in His works.
Posuit pluvias eorum grandinem : ignem comburentem in terra ipsorum.
He looks on the earth, and it trembles; He touches the mountains, and they smolder.
Et percussit vineas eorum, et ficulneas eorum, et contrivit lignum finium eorum.
I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
Dixit, et venit locusta, et bruchus cujus non erat numerus :
May my meditation be pleasing to Him, for I rejoice in the LORD.
et comedit omne fœnum in terra eorum, et comedit omnem fructum terræ eorum.
May sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Hallelujah!
