En ces jours-là parut Jean-Baptiste, prêchant dans le désert de Judée,
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea
et disant : " Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux est proche. "
and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
C'est lui qui a été annoncé par le prophète Isaïe, disant : " Une voix a retenti au désert : Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, aplanissez ses sentiers. "
This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him (note: Isaiah 40:3 (see also LXX)).’”

John wore a garment of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
Alors venaient à lui Jérusalem, et toute la Judée, et tout le pays qu'arrose le Jourdain.
People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region around the Jordan.
Et, confessant leurs péchés, ils se faisaient baptiser par lui dans le Jourdain.
Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
Voyant un grand nombre de Pharisiens et de Sadducéens venir à ce baptême il leur dit : " Race de vipères, qui vous a appris à fuir la colère qui vient ?
But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his place of baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Et n'essayez pas de dire en vous-mêmes : Nous avons Abraham pour père ; car je vous dis que de ces pierres mêmes Dieu peut faire naître des enfants à Abraham.
And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
Déjà la cognée est à la racine des arbres : tout arbre donc qui ne porte pas de bon fruit sera coupé et jeté au feu.
The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
Moi, je vous baptise dans l'eau pour le repentir ; mais celui qui doit venir après moi est plus puissant que moi, et je ne suis pas digne de porter sa chaussure ; il vous baptisera dans l'Esprit-Saint et dans le feu.
I baptize you with water (note: Or in water) for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire (note: Or in the Holy Spirit and in fire).
Sa main tient le van ; il nettoiera son aire, il amassera son froment dans le grenier, et il brûlera la paille dans un feu qui ne s'éteint point. "
His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Alors Jésus, venant de Galilée, alla trouver Jean au Jourdain pour être baptisé par lui.
At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
Jean s'en défendait en disant : " C'est moi qui doit être baptisé par vous, et vous venez à moi ! "
But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”
Jésus lui répondit : " Laisse faire maintenant, car il convient que nous accomplissions ainsi toute justice. " Alors Jean le laissa faire.
“Let it be so now,” Jesus replied. “It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way.” Then John permitted Him.
Jésus ayant été baptisé sortit aussitôt de l'eau, et voilà que les cieux lui furent ouverts, et il vit l'Esprit de Dieu descendre comme une colombe et venir sur lui.
As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened (note: NA, BYZ, and TR the heavens were opened to Him), and He saw (note: Or and he saw; see John 1:32–33.) the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him.
Et du ciel une voix disait : " Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai mis mes complaisances. "
And a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!”
