La Pâque et les Azymes devaient avoir lieu deux jours après ; et les Princes des prêtres et les Scribes cherchaient les moyens de se saisir de Jésus par ruse, afin de le faire mourir.
Now the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were two days away, and the chief priests and scribes were looking for a covert way to arrest Jesus and kill Him.
" Mais, disaient-ils, que ce ne soit pas pendant la fête, de peur qu'il n'y ait du tumulte parmi le peuple. "
“But not during the feast,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”
Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, une femme entra pendant qu'il se trouvait à table. Elle tenait un vase d'albâtre plein d'un parfum de nard pur d'un grand prix ; et ayant brisé le vase, elle répandit le parfum sur sa tête.
While Jesus was in Bethany reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper (note: Aramaic Simon the Potter or Simon the Jar Maker), a woman came with an alabaster jar of expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke open the jar and poured it on Jesus’ head.
Plusieurs de ceux qui étaient là en témoignaient entre eux leur mécontentement : " Pourquoi perdre ainsi ce parfum ?
Some of those present, however, expressed their indignation to one another: “Why this waste of perfume?
On aurait pu le vendre plus de trois cents deniers, et les donner aux pauvres. " Et ils se fâchaient contre elle.
It could have been sold for over three hundred denarii (note: A denarius was customarily a day’s wage for a laborer; see Matthew 20:2.) and the money given to the poor.” And they scolded her.
Mais Jésus dit : " Laissez-la ; pourquoi lui faites-vous de la peine ? C'est une bonne action qu'elle a faite à mon égard.
But Jesus said, “Leave her alone; why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful deed to Me.
Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous, et toutes les fois que vous voulez, vous pouvez leur faire du bien ; mais moi, vous ne m'avez pas toujours. —
The poor you (note: See Deuteronomy 15:11.) will always have with you, and you can help them whenever you want. But you will not always have Me.
Cette femme a fait ce qu'elle a pu ; elle a d'avance embaumé mon corps pour la sépulture.
She has done what she could to anoint My body in advance of My burial.
Je vous le dis, en vérité, partout où sera prêché cet évangile, dans le monde entier, on racontera aussi ce qu'elle a fait, en mémoire d'elle. "
And truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached in all the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
Or, Judas l'Iscariote, l'un des Douze, alla vers les Princes des prêtres pour livrer Jésus.
Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.
Après l'avoir entendu, ils furent dans la joie et promirent de lui donner de l'argent. Et Judas cherchait une occasion favorable pour le livrer.
They were delighted to hear this, and they promised to give him money. So Judas began to look for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
Le premier jour des Azymes, où l'on immolait la Pâque, ses disciples dirent à Jésus : " Où voulez-vous que nous allions vous préparer ce qu'il faut pour manger la Pâque ? "
On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”
Et il envoya deux de ses disciples, et leur dit : " Allez à la ville ; vous rencontrerez un homme portant une cruche d'eau, suivez-le.
So He sent two of His disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jug of water will meet you. Follow him,
Quelque part qu'il entre, dites au propriétaire de la maison : Le Maître te fait dire : Où est la salle où je pourrai manger la Pâque avec mes disciples ?
and whichever house he enters, say to the owner, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is My guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?’
Et il vous montrera un grand cénacle meublé et tout prêt : faites-nous là les préparatifs. "
And he will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”
Ses disciples partirent et allèrent à la ville ; et ils trouvèrent les choses comme il le leur avait dit, et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
So the disciples left and went into the city, where they found everything as Jesus had described. And they prepared the Passover.
Pendant qu'ils étaient à table et mangeaient, Jésus dit : " Je vous le dis en vérité, un de vous me trahira ; celui qui mange avec moi ! "
And while they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you who is eating with Me will betray Me.”
Et ils se mirent à s'attrister et à lui dire l'un après l'autre : " Est-ce moi ? "
They began to be grieved and to ask Him one after another, “Surely not I?”
Il leur répondit : " C'est un des Douze, qui met avec moi la main dans le plat.
He answered, “It is one of the Twelve—the one who is dipping his hand into the bowl with Me.
Pour le Fils de l'homme, il s'en va, ainsi qu'il est écrit de lui ; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi ! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme qu'il ne fût pas né. "
The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
Pendant le repas, Jésus prit du pain, et après avoir prononcé une bénédiction, il le rompit, et le leur donna, en disant : " Prenez, ceci est mon corps. "
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it; this is My body.”
Il prit ensuite la coupe, et, ayant rendu grâces, il la leur donna, et ils en burent tous.
Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
Et il leur dit : " Ceci est mon sang, le sang de la nouvelle alliance, répandu pour la multitude.
He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant (note: BYZ and TR the new covenant), which is poured out for many.
Je vous le dis, en vérité, je ne boirai plus jamais du fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où je le boirai nouveau dans le royaume de Dieu. "
Truly I tell you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.”
Après le chant de l'hymne, ils s'en allèrent au mont des Oliviers.
And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Alors Jésus leur dit : " Je serai pour vous tous, cette nuit, une occasion de chute, car il est écrit : Je frapperai le pasteur, et les brebis seront dispersées.
Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away (note: BYZ and TR include on account of Me this night; see Matthew 26:31.), for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered (note: Zechariah 13:7).’
Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je serai à votre tête, en Galilée. "
But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
Pierre lui dit : " Quand vous seriez pour tous une occasion de chute, vous ne le seriez jamais pour moi. "
Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I never will.”
Jésus lui dit : " Je te le dis, en vérité, aujourd'hui, cette nuit même, avant que le coq ait chanté deux fois, trois fois tu me renieras. "
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.”
Mais Pierre insistait encore plus : " Quand il me faudrait mourir avec vous, je ne vous renierai point. " Et tous dirent de même.
But Peter kept insisting, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the others said the same thing.
Ils arrivèrent à un domaine appelé Gethsémani, et il dit à ses disciples : " Asseyez-vous ici pendant que je prierai. "
Then they came to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus told His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”
Et ayant pris avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, il commença à sentir de la frayeur et de l'abattement.
He took with Him Peter, James, and John, and began to be deeply troubled and distressed.
Et il leur dit : " Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort ; restez ici et veillez. "
Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch.”
S'étant un peu avancé, il se jeta contre terre ; et il priait que cette heure, s'il se pouvait, s'éloignât de lui.
Going a little farther, He fell to the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour would pass from Him.
Et il disait : " Abba (Père), tout vous est possible, éloignez de moi ce calice ; cependant, non pas ma volonté, mais la vôtre ! "
“Abba, Father,” He said, “all things are possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.”
Il vint ensuite et trouva ses disciples endormis ; et il dit à Pierre : " Simon, tu dors ! Tu n'as pu veiller une heure !
Then Jesus returned and found them sleeping. “Simon, are you asleep?” He asked. “Were you not able to keep watch for one hour?
Veillez et priez afin que vous n'entriez point en tentation. L'esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible. "
Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
Et, s'éloignant de nouveau, il pria, disant les mêmes paroles.
Again He went away and prayed, saying the same thing.
Puis, étant revenu, il les trouva encore endormis ; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis, et ils ne savaient que lui répondre.
And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. And they did not know what to answer Him.
Il revint une troisième fois et leur dit : " Dormez, maintenant, et reposez-vous. — C'est assez ! L'heure est venue ; voici que le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des pécheurs.
When Jesus returned the third time, He said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Levez-vous, allons ; celui qui me trahit est près d'ici. "
Rise, let us go. See, My betrayer is approaching!”
Au même moment, comme il parlait encore, arrive Judas, l'un des Douze, et avec lui une grande troupe armée d'épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les Princes des prêtres, par les Scribes et par les Anciens.
While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, scribes, and elders.
Le traître leur avait donné ce signe : " Celui que je baiserai, c'est lui, saisissez-le, et emmenez-le sûrement. "
Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The One I kiss is the man; arrest Him and lead Him away securely.”
Dès qu'il fut arrivé, s'approchant de Jésus, il dit : " Maître ! " et il le baisa.
Going directly to Jesus, he said, “Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
Les autres jetèrent les mains sur lui et l'arrêtèrent.
Then the men seized Jesus and arrested Him.
Un de ceux qui étaient là, tirant l'épée, en frappa le serviteur du grand prêtre, et lui enleva l'oreille.
And one of the bystanders drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
Jésus, prenant la parole, leur dit : " Vous êtes venus comme à un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons pour me prendre.
Jesus asked the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would an outlaw?
Tous les jours j'étais parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté ; mais c'est afin que les Écritures s'accomplissent. "
Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest Me. But this has happened that the Scriptures would be fulfilled.”
Alors tous ses disciples l'abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite.
Then everyone deserted Him and fled.
Un jeune homme le suivait, couvert seulement d'un drap ; on se saisit de lui ;
One young man who had been following Jesus was wearing a linen cloth around his body. They caught hold of him,
mais il lâcha le drap, et s'enfuit nu de leurs mains.
but he pulled free of the linen cloth and ran away naked.
Ils emmenèrent Jésus chez le grand prêtre, où s'assemblèrent tous les Princes des prêtres, les Scribes et les Anciens.
They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests, elders, and scribes assembled.
Pierre le suivit de loin, jusque dans l'intérieur de la cour du grand prêtre, et s'étant assis près du feu avec les serviteurs, il se chauffait.
Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the officers and warmed himself by the fire.
Cependant les Princes des prêtres et tout le conseil cherchaient un témoignage contre Jésus pour le faire mourir, et ils n'en trouvaient point.
Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin (note: Or the whole Council) were seeking testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but they did not find any.
Car plusieurs déposèrent faussement contre lui, mais les dépositions ne s'accordaient pas.
For many bore false witness against Jesus, but their testimony was inconsistent.
Enfin quelques-uns se levant, portèrent contre lui ce faux témoignage :
Then some men stood up and testified falsely against Him:
" Nous l'avons entendu dire : Je détruirai ce temple fait de main d'homme, et en trois jours j'en rebâtirai un autre qui ne sera pas fait de main d'homme. "
“We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this man-made temple, and in three days I will build another that is made without hands.’”
Mais sur cela même leurs témoignages ne s'accordaient pas.
But even their testimony was inconsistent.
Alors le grand prêtre se leva, et venant au milieu, il interrogea Jésus, disant : " Ne réponds-tu rien à ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi ? "
So the high priest stood up before them and questioned Jesus, “Have You no answer? What are these men testifying against You?”
Mais Jésus garda le silence et ne répondit rien. Le grand prêtre l'interrogea de nouveau et lui dit : " Es-tu le Christ, le Fils de celui qui est Béni ? "
But Jesus remained silent and made no reply. Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”
Jésus lui dit : " Je le suis, et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme siéger à la droite du Tout-Puissant, et venir environné des nuées du ciel. "
“I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power (note: Or the right hand of the Mighty One) and coming with the clouds of heaven (note: See Psalm 110:1 and Daniel 7:13.).”
Alors le grand prêtre déchira ses vêtements et dit : " Qu'avons-nous donc besoin de témoins ?
At this, the high priest tore his clothes and declared, “Why do we need any more witnesses?
Vous avez entendu le blasphème ; que vous en semble ? " Tous prononcèrent qu'il méritait la mort.
You have heard the blasphemy. What is your verdict?” And they all condemned Him as deserving of death.
Et quelques-uns se mirent à cracher sur lui, et, lui voilant le visage, ils le frappaient du poing, en lui disant : " Devine " ; et les valets le souffletaient.
Then some of them began to spit on Him. They blindfolded Him, struck Him with their fists, and said to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers received Him with slaps in His face.
Pendant que Pierre était en bas, dans la cour, il vint une des servantes du grand prêtre ;
While Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the servant girls of the high priest came down
et voyant Pierre qui se chauffait, elle le regarda et lui dit : " Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus de Nazareth. "
and saw him warming himself there. She looked at Peter and said, “You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.”
Mais il le nia, en disant : " Je ne sais, ni ne comprends ce que tu veux dire. " Puis il s'en alla, gagnant le vestibule ; et le coq chanta.
But he denied it. “I do not know or even understand what you are talking about,” he said. Then he went out to the gateway, and the rooster crowed (note: NE and WH do not include and the rooster crowed.).
La servante l'ayant aperçu de nouveau, se mit à dire aux assistants : " Voilà un de ces gens-là. "
There the servant girl saw him and again said to those standing nearby, “This man is one of them.”
Et il le nia de nouveau. Un peu après, ceux qui étaient là dirent à Pierre : " Tu es certainement des leurs, car tu es Galiléen. "
But he denied it again. After a little while, those standing nearby said once more to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you too are a Galilean (note: BYZ and TR include and your speech is similar.).”
Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à dire avec serment : " Je ne connais pas l'homme dont vous parlez. "
But he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak!”
Et aussitôt, pour la seconde fois, le coq chanta. Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que Jésus lui avait dite : " Avant que le coq ait chanté deux fois, trois fois tu me renieras " ; et il se mit à pleurer.
And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he broke down and wept.
