Dès le matin, sans retard, les Princes des prêtres tinrent conseil avec les Anciens et les Scribes, et tout le Sanhédrin. Et après avoir lié Jésus, ils l'emmenèrent et le livrèrent à Pilate.
Early in the morning, the chief priests, elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin (note: Or the whole Council) devised a plan. They bound Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate.
Pilate l'interrogea : " Es-tu le roi des Juifs ? " Jésus lui répondit : " Tu le dis. "
So Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
Comme les Princes des prêtres portaient contre lui diverses accusations,
And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things.
Pilate l'interrogea de nouveau, disant : " Tu ne réponds rien ? Vois de combien de choses ils t'accusent."
Then Pilate questioned Him again, “Have You no answer? Look how many charges they are bringing against You!”
Mais Jésus ne fit plus aucune réponse, de sorte que Pilate était dans l'étonnement.
But to Pilate’s amazement, Jesus made no further reply.
Cependant, à chaque fête de Pâque, il leur relâchait un prisonnier, celui qu'ils demandaient.
Now it was Pilate’s custom at the feast to release to the people a prisoner of their choosing.
Or, il y avait dans la prison le nommé Barabbas, avec les séditieux ses complices, pour un meurtre qu'ils avaient commis dans la sédition.
And a man named Barabbas was imprisoned with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection.
La foule étant montée se mit à réclamer ce qu'il leur accordait toujours.
So the crowd went up and began asking Pilate to keep his custom.
Pilate leur répondit : " Voulez-vous que je vous délivre le roi des Juifs ? "
“Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” Pilate asked.
Car il savait que c'était par envie que les Princes des prêtres l'avaient livré.
For he knew it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over.
Mais les Pontifes excitèrent le peuple, afin d'obtenir qu'il leur relachât plutôt Barabbas.
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas to them instead.
Pilate, reprenant la parole, leur dit : " Que voulez-vous donc que je fasse de celui que vous appelez le roi des Juifs ? "
So Pilate asked them again, “What then do you want me to do with the One you call the King of the Jews?”
Pilate leur dit : " Mais quel mal a-t-il fait ? " Et ils crièrent encore plus fort : " Crucifiez-le ! "
“Why?” asked Pilate. “What evil has He done?” But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify Him!”
Pilate, voulant satisfaire le peuple, leur délivra Barabbas ; et après avoir fait flageller Jésus, il le livra pour être crucifié.
And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.
Les soldats conduisirent Jésus dans l'intérieur de la cour, c'est-à-dire dans le prétoire, et ils convoquèrent toute la cohorte.
Then the soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called the whole company together.
Et l'ayant revêtu de pourpre, ils ceignirent sa tête d'une couronne d'épines qu'ils avaient tressée.
They dressed Him in a purple robe, twisted together a crown of thorns, and set it on His head.
Puis ils se mirent à le saluer : " Salut, roi des Juifs ! "
And they began to salute Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Et ils lui frappaient la tête avec un roseau, et ils crachaient sur lui, et, fléchissant les genoux, ils lui rendaient hommage.
They kept striking His head with a staff and spitting on Him. And they knelt down and bowed before Him.
Après s'être ainsi joués de lui, ils lui ôtèrent la pourpre, lui remirent ses vêtements, et l'emmenèrent pour le crucifier.
After they had mocked Him, they removed the purple robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him out to crucify Him.
Un certain Simon, de Cyrène, le père d'Alexandre et de Rufus, passant par là en revenant des champs, ils le réquisitionnent pour porter la croix de Jésus,
Now Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus.
qu'ils entraînent au lieu dit Golgotha, ce que l'on interprète : lieu du Crâne.
They brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull.
Et ils lui donnaient à boire du vin mêlé de myrrhe ; mais il n'en prit pas.
There they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, but He did not take it.
L'ayant crucifié, ils se partagent ses vêtements, tirant au sort ce que chacun en prendrait.
And they crucified Him. They also divided His garments by casting lots to decide what each of them would take (note: See Psalm 22:18.).
Il était la troisième heure lorsqu'on le crucifia.
It was the third hour (note: That is, nine in the morning) when they crucified Him.
L'inscription indiquant la cause de sa condamnation portait : " Le roi des Juifs. "
And the charge inscribed against Him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Ils crucifièrent avec lui deux brigands, l'un à sa droite, l'autre à sa gauche.
Along with Jesus, they crucified two robbers (note: Or insurrectionists), one on His right and one on His left (note: BYZ and TR include 28So the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “And He was numbered with the transgressors.” See Isaiah 53:12 and Luke 22:37.).
Ainsi fut accomplie cette parole de l'Ecriture : " Et il a été mis au rang des malfaiteurs. "

Les passants l'insultaient, en branlant la tête et disant : " Ah ! Toi qui détruis le temple et le rebâtis en trois jours,
And those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
Les Princes des prêtres aussi, avec les Scribes, le raillaient entre eux, et disaient : " Il en a sauvé d'autres, et il ne peut se sauver lui-même.
In the same way, the chief priests and scribes mocked Him among themselves, saying, “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself!
Que le Christ, le roi d'Israël, descende maintenant de la croix, afin que nous voyions et que nous croyions. " Ceux même qui étaient crucifiés avec lui l'insultaient.
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” And even those who were crucified with Him berated Him.
La sixième heure étant arrivée, les ténèbres se répandirent sur toute la terre jusqu'à la neuvième heure.
From the sixth hour (note: That is, from noon until three in the afternoon) until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
Et à la neuvième heure, Jésus s'écria d'une voix forte : " Eloï, Eloï, lama sabacthani. " Ce qui s'interprète : " Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m'avez-vous abandonné ? "
At the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me (note: Psalm 22:1)?”
Quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient là, l'ayant entendu, disaient : " Voyez ! Il appelle Elie. "
When some of those standing nearby heard this, they said, “Behold, He is calling Elijah.”
Et l'un d'eux courut emplir une éponge de vinaigre, et l'ayant mise au bout d'un roseau, il lui donna à boire, en disant : " Laissez, voyons si Elie viendra le faire descendre. "
And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine (note: Or a sponge with wine vinegar). He put it on a reed and held it up for Jesus to drink, saying, “Leave Him alone. Let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down.”
Mais Jésus, ayant jeté un grand cri, expira.
But Jesus let out a loud cry and breathed His last.
Et le voile du sanctuaire se déchira en deux, depuis le haut jusqu'en bas.
And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
Le centurion qui se tenait en face de Jésus, voyant qu'il avait expiré en jetant un tel cri, dit : " Vraiment cet homme était Fils de Dieu. "
When the centurion standing there in front of Jesus saw how He had breathed His last (note: BYZ and TR saw how, having cried out, He had breathed His last), he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
Il y avait aussi des femmes qui regardaient de loin, entre autres Marie-Madeleine, Marie, mère de Jacques le Mineur et de Joseph, et Salomé,
And there were also women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses (note: Joses is a variant of Joseph; see Matthew 27:56.), and Salome.
qui le suivaient déjà et le servaient lorsqu'il était en Galilée, et plusieurs autres qui étaient montées à Jérusalem avec lui.
These women had followed Jesus and ministered to Him while He was in Galilee, and there were many other women who had come up to Jerusalem with Him.
Le soir étant déjà venu, comme c'était la Préparation, c'est-à-dire la veille du sabbat,
Now it was already evening. Since it was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath),
arriva Joseph d'Arimathie : c'était un membre du grand conseil fort considéré, qui attendait, lui aussi, le royaume de Dieu. Il était allé hardiment auprès de Pilate, demander le corps de Jésus.
Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent Council member who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus.
Mais Pilate, surpris qu'il fût mort si tôt, fit venir le centurion, et lui demanda s'il y avait longtemps que Jésus était mort.
Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead, so he summoned the centurion to ask if this was so.
Sur le rapport du centurion, il accorda le corps à Joseph.
When Pilate had confirmed it with the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.
Alors Joseph, ayant acheté un linceul, descendit Jésus, l'enveloppa du linceul, et le déposa dans un sépulcre, taillé dans le roc ; puis il roula une pierre à l'entrée du sépulcre.
So Joseph bought a linen cloth, took down the body of Jesus, wrapped it in the cloth, and placed it in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.
Or Marie-Madeleine, et Marie, mère de Joseph, observaient où on le déposait.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph (note: Or Joses) saw where His body was placed.
