Il leur adressa encore une parabole, pour montrer qu'il faut prier toujours et sans se lasser.
Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray at all times and not lose heart:
Il dit : " Il y avait dans une ville un juge qui ne craignait point Dieu, et ne se souciait pas des hommes.
“In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected men.
Il y avait aussi dans cette ville une veuve qui venait à lui, disant : Fais-moi justice de mon adversaire.
And there was a widow in that town who kept appealing to him, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’
Et pendant longtemps il ne le voulut point ; mais ensuite il dit en lui-même : Encore que je ne craigne pas Dieu et ne me soucie pas des hommes,
For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect men,
cependant, parce que cette veuve m'importune, je lui ferai justice, afin qu'elle ne vienne pas sans cesse me tourmenter. —
yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice. Otherwise, she will wear me out with her perpetual requests.’”
Entendez, ajouta le Seigneur, ce que dit ce juge inique.
And the Lord said, “Listen to the words of the unjust judge.
Et Dieu ne ferait pas justice à ses élus qui crient à lui nuit et jour, et il tarderait à leur égard ?
Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay in helping them?
Je vous le dis, il leur fera bientôt justice. Seulement, quand le Fils de l'homme viendra, trouvera-t-il la foi sur terre ? "
I tell you, He will promptly carry out justice on their behalf. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?”
Il dit encore cette parabole en vue de quelques gens persuadés de leur propre perfection, et pleins de mépris pour les autres :
To some who trusted in their own righteousness and viewed others with contempt, He also told this parable:
" Deux hommes montèrent au temple pour prier ; l'un était Pharisien, l'autre publicain.
“Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
Le Pharisien, debout, priait ainsi en lui-même : O Dieu, je vous rends grâces de ce que je ne suis pas comme le reste des hommes, qui sont voleurs, injustes et adultères, ni encore comme ce publicain.
The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—swindlers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.
Je jeûne deux fois la semaine ; je paie la dîme de tous mes revenus.
I fast twice a week and pay tithes of all that I acquire.’
Le publicain, se tenant à distance, ne voulait pas même lever les yeux au ciel ; mais il frappait sa poitrine en disant : O Dieu, ayez pitié de moi qui suis un pécheur !
But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’
Je vous le dis, celui-ci descendit justifié dans sa maison, plutôt que celui-là ; car quiconque s'élève sera abaissé, et quiconque s'abaisse sera élevé. "
I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Des personnes lui apportaient aussi leurs petits enfants pour qu'il les touchât ; ce que voyant, ses disciples les réprimandèrent.
Now people were even bringing their babies to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked those who brought them.
Mais Jésus appela ces enfants et dit : " Laissez les petits enfants venir à moi, et ne les empêchez pas ; car le royaume de Dieu est à ceux qui leur ressemblent.
But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
En vérité, je vous le dis, quiconque ne recevra pas le royaume de Dieu comme un petit enfant, n'y entrera point. "
Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Alors un chef lui demanda : " Bon Maître, que dois-je faire pour obtenir la vie éternelle ? "
Then a certain ruler asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Jésus lui dit : " Pourquoi m'appelles-tu bon ? Il n'y a de bon que Dieu seul.
“Why do you call Me good?” Jesus replied. “No one is good except God alone.
Tu connais les commandements : Ne commets point l'adultère ; ne tue point ; ne dérobe point ; ne porte point de faux témoignage ; honore ton père et ta mère. "
You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and mother (note: Exodus 20:12–16; Deuteronomy 5:16–20).’”
Il répondit : " J'ai observé tout cela depuis ma jeunesse. "
“All these I have kept from my youth,” he said.
Ayant entendu cette réponse, Jésus lui dit : " Une chose te manque encore : vends tout ce que tu as, distribue-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans le ciel ; puis viens, et suis-moi. "
On hearing this, Jesus told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
Mais lui, ayant entendu ces paroles, devint triste, parce qu'il était fort riche.
But when the ruler heard this, he became very sad, because he was extremely wealthy.
Voyant qu'il était devenu triste, Jésus dit : " Qu'il est difficile à ceux qui possèdent la richesse d'entrer dans le royaume de Dieu !
Seeing the man’s sadness (note: Literally Seeing that he had become sorrowful; SBL, NE, and WH Seeing him), Jesus said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
Il est, en effet, plus aisé qu'un chameau passe par le trou d'une aiguille, qu'il ne l'est à un riche d'entrer dans le royaume de Dieu. "
Indeed, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Ceux qui l'écoutaient dirent : " Qui peut donc être sauvé ? "
Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
Il répondit : " Ce qui est impossible aux hommes est possible à Dieu. "
But Jesus said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
Pierre dit alors : " Voyez, nous avons tout quitté et vous avons suivi. "
“Look,” said Peter, “we have left all we had (note: Literally left our own; BYZ and TR left all) to follow You.”
Il leur dit : " Je vous le dis, en vérité, nul n'aura quitté sa maison, ou ses parents, ou ses frères, ou son épouse, ou ses enfants, à cause du royaume de Dieu,
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God
sans qu'il ne reçoive beaucoup plus en ce temps même, et dans le siècle à venir la vie éternelle. "
will fail to receive many times more in this age—and in the age to come, eternal life.”
Ensuite Jésus prit à part les Douze, et leur dit : " Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem, et que va s'accomplir tout ce que les prophètes ont écrit du Fils de l'homme.
Then Jesus took the Twelve aside and said to them, “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything the prophets have written about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
Il sera livré aux Gentils, et moqué, et injurié, et couvert de crachats ;
He will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon.
et après l'avoir flagellé, on le mettra à mort et il ressuscitera le troisième jour. "
They will flog Him and kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again.”
Mais ils ne comprirent rien à cela ; c'était pour eux un langage caché, dont ils ne saisissaient pas le sens.
But the disciples did not understand any of these things. The meaning was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was saying.
Comme Jésus approchait de Jéricho, il arriva qu'un aveugle était assis sur le bord du chemin, demandant l'aumône.
As Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting beside the road, begging.
Entendant passer beaucoup de gens, il demanda ce que c'était.
When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
On lui dit : " C'est Jésus de Nazareth qui passe. "
“Jesus of Nazareth is passing by,” they told him.
Aussitôt il s'écria : " Jésus, fils de David, ayez pitié de moi ! "
So he called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Ceux qui marchaient devant le réprimandaient pour le faire taire ; mais il criait beaucoup plus fort : " Fils de David, ayez pitié de moi ! "
Those who led the way admonished him to be silent, but he cried out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Alors Jésus s'arrêtant, commanda qu'on le lui amenât, et quand l'aveugle se fut approché, il lui demanda :
Jesus stopped and directed that the man be brought to Him. When he had come near, Jesus asked him,
" Que veux-tu que je te fasse ? " Il dit : " Que je voie. "
“What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “let me see again.”
Et Jésus lui dit : " Vois ! ta foi t'a sauvé. "
“Receive your sight!” Jesus replied. “Your faith has healed you.”
A l'instant il vit, et il le suivait en glorifiant Dieu. Et tout le peuple, voyant cela, donna louange à Dieu.
Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
