2 Samuel 9 — parallel

9:1

καὶ εἶπεν Δαυείδ Εἰ ἔστιν ὑπολελειμμένος τῷ οἴκῳ Σαούλ, καὶ ποιήσω μετ’αὐτοῦ ἔλεος ἔνεκεν Ἰωναθάν;

Then David asked, “Is there anyone left from the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for the sake of Jonathan?”

9:2

καὶ ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου Σαοὺλ παῖς ἦν καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῷ Σειβά, καὶ καλοῦσιν αὐτὸν πρὸς Δαυείδ. καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ βασιλεύς Εἱ δὺ εἶ Σειβά;καὶ εἶπεν Ἐγὼ δοῦλος σός.

And there was a servant of the house of Saul named Ziba. They summoned him to David, and the king inquired, “Are you Ziba?” “I am your servant,” he replied.

9:3

καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς Εἰ ὑπολέλειπται ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου Σαοὺλ ἔτι ἀνήρ, καὶ ποιήσω μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος θεοῦ ; καὶ εἶπεν Σειβὰ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Ἔτι ἔστιν υἱὸς τῷ Ἰωναθὰν πεπληγὼς τοὺς πόδας.

So the king asked, “Is there anyone left of the house of Saul to whom I can show the kindness of God?” Ziba answered, “There is still Jonathan’s son, who is lame in both feet.”

9:4

καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς Ποῦ οὗτος ; καὶ εἶπεν Σειβά πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Ἰδοὺ ἐν οἴκῳ Μαχεὶρ υἱοῦ Ἀμαὴρ ἐκ τῆς Λαδαβάρ.

“Where is he?” replied the king. And Ziba said, “Indeed, he is in Lo-debar at the house of Machir son of Ammiel.”

9:5

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαυεὶδ καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτὸν ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου Μαχεὶρ υἱοῦ Ἀμειὴλ ἐκ τῆς Λαδαβάρ.

So King David had him brought from the house of Machir son of Ammiel in Lo-debar.

9:6

καὶ παραγίνεται Μεμφιβόσθε υἱὸς Ἰωναθὰν υἱοῦ Σαοὺλ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Δαυείδ, καὶ ἔπεσεν ὐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δαυείδ Μεμφιβόσθε· καὶ εἶπεν Ἰδοὺ ὁ δοῦλὸς σου.

son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he fell facedown in reverence. Then David said, “Mephibosheth!” “I am your servant,” he replied.

9:7

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δαυείδ Μὴ φοβοῦ, ὅτι ποιῶν ποιήσω μετὰ σοῦ ἔλεος διὰ Ἰωναθὰν τὸν πατέρα σου, καὶ ἀποκαταστήσω σοι πάντα ἀγρὸν Σαοὺλ ππατρὸς τοῦ πατρός ου, καὶ σὺ φάγῃ ἄρτον ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης μου διὰ παντός.

“Do not be afraid,” said David, “for surely I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”

9:8

καὶ προσεκύνησεν Μεμφιβόσθε καὶ εἶπεν Τίς εἰμι ὁ δοῦλός σου ὅτι ἐπέβλεψας ἐπὶ τὸν κύνα τὸν τεθνηκότα τὸν ὅμοιον ἐμοί ;

Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog like me?”

9:9

καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Σειβὰ τὸ παιδάριον Σαοὺλ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν Πάντα ὅσα ἐστὶν τῷ Σαούλ καὶ ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ δέδωκα τῷ υἱῷ τοῦ κυρίου σου.

Then the king summoned Saul’s servant Ziba and said to him, “I have given to your master’s grandson all that belonged to Saul and to all his house.

9:10

καὶ ἐργᾷ αὐτῷ τὴν γῆν, σὺ καὶ οἱ υϊοί σου καὶ οἱ δουλοί σου, καὶ εἰσοίσεις τῷ υἱῷ τοῦ κυρίου σου ἄρτους καὶ ἔδεται ἄρτους· καὶ Μεμφιβόσθε υἱὸς τοῦ κυρίου σου φάγεται διὰ παντὸς ἄρτον ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης μου. καὶ τῷ Σειβὰ ἦσαν πέντε καὶ δέκα υἱοὶ καὶ εἴκοσι δοῦλοι.

You and your sons and servants are to work the ground for him and bring in the harvest, so that your master’s grandson may have food to eat. But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, is always to eat at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

9:11

καὶ εἶπεν Σειβὰ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐντέταλται ὁ κύριός εἶπεν Σειβὰ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐντέταλται ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ δούλῳ αὐτοῦ, οὕτως ποιήσει ὁ δοῦλός σου. καὶ Μεμφιβόσθε ἤσθιεν ἐπὶ τῆς τραππέζης Δαυεὶδ καθὼς εἷς τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ τοῦ βασιλέως.

And Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do all that my lord the king has commanded.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s own sons.

9:12

καὶ τῷ Μεμφιβόσθε υἱὸς μικρὸς καὶ ὅνομα αὐτῷ Μειχά. καὶ πᾶσα ἡ κατοίκησις αὐτοῦ οἴκου Σειβὰ δοῦλοι τοῦ

And Mephibosheth had a young son named , and all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants of Mephibosheth.

9:13

καὶ Μεμφιβόσθε κατῴκει ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ, ὅτι ἐπι τῆς τραπέζης τοῦ βασιλέως διὰ παντὸς ἤσθιεν· καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν χωλὸς ἀμφοτέροις τοῖς ποςὶν αὐτοῦ.

So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table, and he was lame in both feet.
