Ων δέκα δύο ἐτῶν Μανασσῆς ἐν τῷ βασιλεῦσαι αὐτόν, καὶ πεντήκοντα πέντε ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ.
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years.
καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον Κυρίου, ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν βδελυγμάτων τῶν ἐθνῶν οὓς ἐξωλέθρευσεν Κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν τὰ ὑψηλὰ ἃ κατέσπασεν Ἐζεκίας ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔστησεν στήλας τοῖς Βααλεὶμ καὶ ἐποίησεν ἄλση, καὶ προσεκύνησεν πάσῃ τῆ στρατείᾳ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἐδούλευσεν αὐτοῖς.
For he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had torn down, and he raised up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. And he worshiped and served all the host of heaven.
καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν θυσιαστήρια ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου οὗ εἶπεν Κύριος Ἐν Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἔσται τὸ ὄνομά μου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
Manasseh also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “My Name will remain in Jerusalem forever.”
καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν θυσιαστήρια τῇ πάσῃ στρατείᾳ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐν ταῖς δυσὶν αὐλαῖς οἴκου Κυρίου.
In both courtyards of the house of the LORD, he built altars to all the host of heaven.
καὶ αὐτὸς διήγαγεν τὰ τέκνα αὐτοῦ ἐν πυρὶ ἐν γέ βανὲ Ἐννόμ· καὶ ἐκληδονίζετο καὶ ἐφαρμακεύετο καὶ οἰωνίζετο, καὶ ἐποίησεν ἐνγαστριμύθους καὶ ἐπαοιδοὺς· ἐπλήθυνεν τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον Κυρίου τοῦ παροργίσαι αὐτόν, καὶ ἔθηκεν τὸ γλυπτὸν τὸ χωνευτόν, εἰκόνα ἣν ἐποίησεν, ἐν οἴκῳ θεοῦ οὗ εἶπεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Δαυεὶδ καὶ Σαλωμὼν τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ Ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τούτῳ καὶ Ἰερουσαλήμ, ἣν ἐξελεξάμην ἐκ πασῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραήλ, θήσω τὸ ὄνομά μου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.
He sacrificed his sons in the fire (note: Literally made his sons pass through the fire) in the Valley of Ben-hinnom. He practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did great evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger.
καὶ οὐ προσθήσαω σαλεῦσαι τὸν πόδα Ἰσραὴλ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς ἧς ἔδωκα τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν, πλὴν ἐὰν φυλάσσωνται τοῦ ποιῆσαι πάντα ἃ ἐνετειλάμην αὐτοῖς κατὰ πάντα τὸν νόμον, τὰ προστάγματα καὶ τὰ κρίματα ἐν χειρὶ Μωυσῆ.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to leave the land that I assigned to your fathers, if only they are careful to do all that I have commanded them through Moses—all the laws, statutes, and judgments.”
καὶ ἐπλάνησεν Μανασσῆς τὸν Ἰούδαν καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ, τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ὑπέρ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἃ ἐξῆρεν Κύριος ἀπὸ προσώπου υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ.
So Manasseh led the people of Judah and Jerusalem astray, so that they did greater evil than the nations that the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.
καὶ ἐλάλησεν Κύριος ἐπὶ Μανασσὴ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἐπήκουσεν.
And the LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they did not listen.
καὶ ἥγαγεν Κύριος ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς τοὺς ἄρχοντας τῆς δυνάμεως βασιλέως Ἀσσούρ, καὶ κατέλαβον τὸν Μανασσὴ ἐν δεσμοῖς καὶ ἔδησαν αὐτὸν ἐν πέδαις καὶ ἤγαγον εἰς Βαβυλῶνα.
So the LORD brought against them the military commanders of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles, and took him to Babylon.
καὶ ὡς ἐθλίβη, ἐζήτησεν τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ κυρίου θεοῦ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐταπεινώθη σφόδρα ἀπὸ προσώπου θεοῦ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ·
And in his distress, Manasseh sought the favor of the LORD his God and earnestly humbled himself before the God of his fathers.
καὶ προσηύξατο πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ ἐπήκουσεν αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπήκουσεν τῆς βοῆς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν αὐτὸν εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἔγνω Μανασσῆς ὅτι Κύριος αὐτός ἐστιν θεός.
And when he prayed to Him, the LORD received his plea and heard his petition. So He brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
Καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν μετὰ ταῦτα τεῖχος ἔξω τῆς πόλεως Δαυεὶδ ἀπὸ λιβὸς κατὰ Γιὸν ἐν τῷ χειμάρρῳ καὶ ἐκπορευομένων τὴν πύλην τὴν κυκλόθεν καὶ εἰς αὐτὸν Ὄπλα, καὶ ὕψωσεν σφόδρα· καὶ κατέστησεν ἄρχοντας τῆς δυνάμεως ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν ταῖς τειχήρεσιν ἐν Ἰούδα.
After this, Manasseh rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David from west of Gihon in the valley to the entrance of the Fish Gate, and he brought it around the hill of Ophel and heightened it considerably. He also stationed military commanders in all the fortified cities of Judah.
καὶ περιεῖλεν τοὺς θεοὺς τοὺς ἀλλοτρίους καὶ τὸ γλυπτὸν ἐξ οἴκου Κυρίου, καὶ πάντα τὰ θυσιαστήρια ἂ ᾠκοδόμησεν ἐν ὄρει οἴκου Κυρίου καὶ ἐν Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ ἔξωθεν τῆς πόλεως.
He removed the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, along with all the altars he had built on the temple mount (note: Literally the mountain of the house of the LORD) and in Jerusalem, and he dumped them outside the city.
καὶ κατώρθωσεν τὸ θυσιαστήριον Κυρίου, καὶ ἐθυσίασεν ἐπʼ αὐτὸ θυσίαν σωτηρίου καὶ αἰνέσεως, καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Ἰούδα τοῦ δουλεύειν Κυρίῳ θεῷ Ἰσραήλ.
Then he restored the altar of the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings and thank offerings on it, and he told Judah to serve the LORD, the God of Israel.
πλὴν ὁ λαὸς ἔτι ἐπὶ τῶν ὑψηλῶν· πλὴν Κύριος ὁ θεὸς αὐτῶν.
Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.
καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν λόγων Μανασσὴ καὶ ἡ προσευχὴ αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ λόγοι τῶν ὁρώντων λαλοῦντῶν πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐπʼ ὀνόματι θεοῦ Ἰσραήλ,
As for the rest of the acts of Manasseh, along with his prayer to his God and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel (note: That is, Judah; in 2 Chronicles, Judah is occasionally called Israel, as representative of the true Israel.), they are indeed written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
ἰδοὺ ἐπὶ λόγων ¹¹⁹προσευχῆς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπήκουσεν αὐτοῦ· καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ ἁμαρτίαι αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀποστάσεις αὐτοῦ, καὶ οἱ τόποι ἐφʼ οἷς ᾠκοδόμησεν τὰ ὑψηλὰ καὶ ἔστησεν ἐκεῖ ἄλση καὶ γλυπτὰ πρὸ τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι, ἰδοὺ γέγραπται ἐπὶ τῶν λόγων τῶν ὁρώντων.
His prayer and how God received his plea, as well as all his sin and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the Seers (note: Or the Records of the Hozai or the Annals of the Prophets).
καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Μανασσῆς μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν ἐν παραδείσῳ οἴκου αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντʼ αὐτοῦ Ἀμὼς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ.
And Manasseh rested with his fathers and was buried at his palace. And his son Amon reigned in his place.
Ὥν εἴκοσι καὶ δύο ἐτῶν Ἀμὼς ἐν τῷ βασιλεύειν αὐτόν, καὶ δύο ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ.
Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years.
καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου ὡς ἐποίησεν Μανασσῆς ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ· καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς εἰδώλοις οἷς ἐποίησεν Μανασσῆς ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἔθυεν Ἀμὼς καὶ ἐδούλευσεν αὐτοῖς.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done. Amon served and sacrificed to all the idols that his father Manasseh had made,
καὶ οὐκ ἐταπεινώθη ἐναντίον Κυρίου ὡς ἐταπεινώθη Μανασσὴ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ, ὅτι υἱὸς Ἀμὼς ἐπλήθυνεν πλημμέλειαν.
but he did not humble himself before the LORD as his father Manasseh had done; instead, Amon increased his guilt.
καὶ ἐπέθεντο αὐτῷ οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπάταξαν αὐτὸν ἐν οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ.
Then the servants of Amon conspired against him and killed him in his palace.
καὶ ἐπάταξεν ὁ λαὸς τῆς γῆς τοὺς ἐπιθεμένους ἐπὶ τὸν βασιλέα Ἀμώς· καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ὁ λαὸς τῆς γῆς τὸν Ἰωσείαν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἀντʼ αὐτοῦ.
But the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against King Amon, and they made his son Josiah king in his place.
