Καὶ ἐγενήθη τῷ Ἰωσαφὰτ ἔτι πλοῦτος καὶ δόξα πολλή, καὶ ἐπεγαμβρεύσατο ἐν οἴκῳ Ἀχαάβ.
Now Jehoshaphat had an abundance of riches and honor, and he allied himself with Ahab by marriage.
καὶ κατέβη διὰ τέλους ἐτῶν πρὸς Ἀχαὰβ εἰς Σαμάρειαν, καὶ ἔθυσεν αὐτῷ Ἀχαὰβ πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους πολλοὺς καὶ τῷ λαῷ τῷ μετʼ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἠγάπα αὐτὸν τοῦ συναναβῆναι μετʼ αὐτοῦ εἰς Ῥαμὼθ τῆς Γαλααδείτιδος.
And some years later he went down to visit Ahab in Samaria, where Ahab sacrificed many sheep and cattle for him and the people with him and urged him to march up to Ramoth-gilead.
καὶ εἶπεν Ἀχαὰβ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλέα Ἰούδα Πορεύσῃ μετʼ ἐμοῦ εἰς Ῥαμὼθ τῆς Γαλααδείτιδος; καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ὡς ἐγώ, οὕτως καὶ σύ· ὡς ὁ λαός μου, καὶ ὁ λαός σου μετὰ σοῦ εἰς πόλεμον.
Ahab king of Israel asked Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against Ramoth-gilead?” And Jehoshaphat replied, “I am as you are, and my people are your people; we will join you in the war.”
καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωσαφὰτ πρὸς βασιλέα Ἰσραήλ Ζήτησον δὴ σήμερον τὸν κύριον.
But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the word of the LORD.”
καὶ συνήγαγεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ τοὺς προφήτας τετρακοσίους ἄνδρας καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Εἰ πορευθῶ εἰς Ῥαμὼθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον ἢ ἐπίσχω ; καὶ εἶπαν Ἀνάβαινε, καὶ δώσει ὁ θεὸς εἰς τὰς χεῖρας τοῦ βασιλέως.
So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, four hundred men, and asked them, “Should we go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should we refrain?” “Go up,” they replied, “and God will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωσαφάτ Οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε προφήτης τοῦ κυρίου ἔτι καὶ ἐπιζητήσομεν παρʼ αὐτοῦ;
But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there not still a prophet of the LORD here of whom we can inquire?”
καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφάτ Ἔτι ἀνὴρ εἰς τοῦ ζητῆσαι τὸν κύριον δι αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐγὼ ἐμίσησα αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν προφητεύων περὶ ἐμοῦ εἰς ἀγαθά, ὅτι πᾶσαι αἱ ἡμέραι αὐτοῦ εἰς κακά, οὗτος Μειχαίας υἱὸς Ἰεμαάς. καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωσαφάτ Μὴ λαλείτω ὁ βασιλεὺς οὕτως.
The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say that!” Jehoshaphat replied.
καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς εὐνοῦχον ἕνα καὶ εἶπεν Ἰάχος Μειχαίαν υἱὸν Ἰεμαά.
So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, “Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once.”
καὶ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα καθήμενοι ἕκαστος ἐπὶ θρόνου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνδεδυμένοι στολάς, καθήμενοι ἐν τῷ εὐρυχώρῳ θύρας πύλης Σαμαρείας, καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον ἐναντίον αὐτῶν.
Dressed in royal attire, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them.
καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ Σεδεκίας υἱὸς Χανὰαν κέρατα σιδηρᾶ καὶ εἶπεν Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Ἐν τούτοις κερατιεῖς τὴν Συρίαν ἕως ἂν συντελεσθῇ.
Now Zedekiah son of Chenaanah had made for himself iron horns and declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘With these you shall gore the Arameans until they are finished off.’”
καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον οὕτως λέγοντες Ἀνάβαινε εἰς Ῥαμὼθ Γαλαὰδ, καὶ εὐοδωθήσῃ, καὶ δώσει Κύριος εἰς χεῖρας τοῦ βασιλέως.
And all the prophets were prophesying the same, saying, “Go up to Ramoth-gilead and triumph, for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
καὶ ὁ ἅγγελος ὁ πορευθεὶς τοῦ καλέσαι τὸν Μειχαίαν ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ λέγων Ἰδοὺ ἐλάλησαν οἱ προφῆται ἐν στόματι ἑνὶ ἀγαθὰ περὶ τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ ἔστωσαν δὴ οἱ λόγοι σου ὡς ἑνὸς αὐτῶν, καὶ λαλήσεις ἀγαθά.
Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah instructed him, “Behold, with one accord the words of the prophets are favorable to the king. So please let your words be like theirs, and speak favorably.”
καὶ εἶπεν Μειχαίας Ζῆ Κύριος ὅτι ὁ ἐὰν εἴπῃ ὁ θεὸς πρὸς μέ, αὐτὸ λαλήσω.
But Micaiah said, “As surely as the LORD lives, I will speak whatever my God tells me.”
καὶ ἦλθεν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα· καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεὺς Μειχαία, εἰ πορευθῶ εἰς Ῥαμὼθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον ἢ ἐπίσχω ; καὶ εἶπεν Ἀνάβαινε, καὶ εὐοδώσεις· καὶ δοθήσονται εἰς χεῖρας ὑμῶν.
When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should we refrain?” “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for they will be delivered into your hand.”
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεύς Πσάκις ὁρκίζω σε ἴνα μὴ λαλήσῃς πρὸς μὲ πλὴν τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἐν ὀνόματι Κυρίου;
But the king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the name of the LORD?”
καὶ εἶπεν Εἶδον τὸν Ἰσραὴλ διεσπαρμένους ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν ὡς πρόβατα οἶς οὐκ ἔστιν ποιμήν· καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος Οὐκ ἔχουσιν ἡγούμενον, ἀναστρεφέτωσαν ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ἐν εἰρήνῃ.
So Micaiah declared: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in peace.’”
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφάτ Οὐκ εἶπά σοι ὅτι οὐ προφητεύει περὶ ἐμοῦ ἀγαθὰ ἀλλ ἢ κακά;
Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he never prophesies good for me, but only bad?”
καὶ εἶπεν Οὐχ οὕτως· ἀκούσατε λόγον Κυρίου. εἶδον τὸν κύριον καθήμενον ἐπὶ θρόνου αὐτοῦ, καὶ πᾶσα δύναμις τοῦ οὐρανοῦ εἱστήκει ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξ ἀριστερῶν αὐτοῦ.
Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right and on His left.
καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος Τίς ἀπατήσει τὸν Ἀχαὰβ βασιλέα Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀναβήσεται καὶ πεσεῖται ἐν Ῥαμὼθ Γαλαὰδ; καὶ εἶπεν οὗτος οὕτως, καὶ οὗτος εἶπεν οὕτως.
And the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab king of Israel to march up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one suggested this, and another that.
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἔστη ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν Ἐγὼ ἀπατήσω αὐτόν. καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος Ἐν τίνι;
Then a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will entice him.’ ‘By what means?’ asked the LORD.
καὶ εἶπεν Ἐξελεύσομαι καὶ ἔσομαι πνεῦμα ψευδές ἐν στόματι πάντων τῶν προφητῶν αὐτοῦ. καὶ εἶπεν Ἀπατήσεις, δυνήσῃ· ἔξελθε καὶ ποίησον οὕτως.
And he replied, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.’ ‘You will surely entice him and prevail,’ said the LORD. ‘Go and do it.’
καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ ἔδωκεν Κύριος πνεῦμα ψευδές ἐν στόματι τῶν προφητῶν σου τούτων, καὶ Κύριος ἐλάλησεν ἐπὶ σέ κακά.
So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you.”
καὶ ἤγγισεν Σεδεκίας υἱὸς Χανὰαν καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν Μειχαίαν ἐπὶ τὴν σιαγόνα καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ποίᾳ τῇ ὁδῷ πνεῦμα παρʼ ἐμοῦ πνεῦμα πρὸς σέ, πνεῖμα Κυρίου παρ ἐμοῦ τοῦ λαλῆσαι πρὸς σέ;
Then Zedekiah son of Chenaanah went up, struck Micaiah in the face, and demanded, “Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go when He departed from me to speak with you?”
καὶ εἶπεν Μειχαίας Ἰδοὺ ὄψῃ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ· εἰσελεύσεται ταμεῖον ἐκ ταμείου τοῦ κατακρυβῆναι.
Micaiah replied, “You will soon see, on that day when you go and hide in an inner room.”
καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ Λάβετε τὸν Μειχαίαν καὶ ἀποστρέψατε πρὸς Ἐμὴρ ἄρχοντα τῆς πόλεως καὶ πρὸς Ἰωασὰ ἄρχοντα υἱὸν τοῦ βασιλέως,
And the king of Israel declared, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son,
καὶ ἐρεῖς Οὕτως εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀποθέσθαι τοῦτον εἰς οἶκον φυλακῆς, καὶ ἐσθιέτω ἄρτον θλίψεως καὶ ὕδωρ θλίψεως ἕως τοῦ ἐπιστρέψαι με ἐν εἰρήνῃ.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
καὶ εἶπεν Μειχαίας Ἐὰν ἐπιστρέφων ἐπιστρέψῃς ἐν εἰρήνῃ, οὐκ ἐλάλησεν Κύριος ἐν ἐμοί ἀκούσατε λαοὶ πάντες.
But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Take heed, all you people!”
Καὶ ἀνέβη βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα εἰς Ῥαμὼθ Γαλαὰδ.
So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.
καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφάτ Κατακάλυψόν με καὶ εἰσελεύσομαι εἰς τὸν πόλεμον, καὶ σὺ ἔνδυσαι τὸν ἱματισμόν μου· καὶ συνεκαλύψατο βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν πόλεμον.
And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
καὶ βασιλεὺς Συρίας ἐνετείλατο τοῖς ἄρχουσιν τῶν ἁρμάτων τοῖς μετʼ αὐτοῦ λέγων Μὴ πολεμεῖτε τὸν μικρὸν καὶ τὸν μέγαν ἀλλ᾿ ἢ τὸν βασιλέα Ἰσραὴλ μόνον.
Now the king of Aram had ordered his chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδου οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἁρμάτων τὸν Ἰωσαφάτ, καὶ αὐτοὶ εἶπαν Βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν, καὶ ἐκύκλωσαν αὐτὸν τοῦ πολεμεῖν· καὶ ἐβόησεν Ἰωσαφάτ, καὶ Κύριος ἔσωσεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν αὐτοὺς ὁ θεὸς ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ.
When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “This is the king of Israel!” So they turned to fight against him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him.
καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἶδον οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἁρμάτων ὅτι οὐκ ἦν βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ.
And when the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
καὶ ἀνὴρ ἔτεινεν τόξον εὐστόχως καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν βασιλέα Ἰσραὴλ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ πνεύμονος καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ θώρακος· καὶ εἶπεν τῷ ἡνιόχῳ Ἐπίστρεφε τὴν χεῖρά σου καὶ ἐξάγαγέ με ἐκ τοῦ πολέμου, ὅτι ἐπόνεσα.
However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. So the king said to his charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
καὶ ἐτροπώθη ὁ πόλεμος ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ· καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ ἦν ἑστηκὼς ἐπὶ τοῦ ἄρματος ἕως ἑσπέρας ἐξ ἐναντίας Συρίας, καὶ ἀπέθανεν δύναντος τοῦ ἡλίου.
The battle raged throughout that day, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. And at sunset he died.
