Καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Ἰωσαφὰτ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντʼ αὐτοῦ· καὶ κατίσχυσεν Ἰωσαφὰτ ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραήλ.
Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
καὶ ἔδωκεν δύναμιν ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν Ἰούδα ταῖς ἀχυροῖς, καὶ κατέστησεν ἡγουμένους ἐν πάσαις ταῖς πόλεσιν Ἰούδα καὶ ἐν πόλεσιν Ἐφράιμ ἂς προκατελάβετο Ἀσὰ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
καὶ ἐγένετο Κύριος μετὰ Ἰωσαφάτ, ὅτι ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδοῖς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ταῖς πρώταις· καὶ οὐκ ἐξεζήτησεν τὰ εἴδωλα,
Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways (note: Or in his early years he walked in the ways) of his father David. He did not seek the Baals,
ἀλλὰ Κύριον τὸν θεὸν τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐξεζήτησεν, καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἐντολαῖς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἐπορεύθη, καὶ οὐχ ὡς τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ τὰ ἔργα.
but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
καὶ κατηύθυνεν Κύριος τὴν βασιλείαν ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔδωκεν πᾶς Ἰουδὰ δῶρα τῷ Ἰωσαφάτ, καὶ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ πλοῦτος καὶ δόξα πολλή.
So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
καὶ ὑψώθη καρδία αὐτοῦ ἐν ὁδῷ Κυρίου, καὶ ἐξῆρεν τὰ ὑψηλὰ καὶ τὰ ἄλση ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς Ἰούδα.
And his heart took delight (note: Or was exalted or was courageous) in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
καὶ ἐν τῷ τρίτῳ ἔτει τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς ἡγουμένους αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν δυνατῶν, τὸν Ἀβίαν καὶ Ζαχαρίαν καὶ Ναθαναὴλ καὶ Μειχαίαν, διδάσκειν ἐν πόλεσιν Ἰούδα.
In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,
καὶ μετʼ αὐτῶν οἱ Λευεῖται Σαμούας καὶ Μανθανίας καὶ Ζαβδείας καὶ Ἰασειὴλ καὶ Σαμειραμὼθ καὶ Ἰωναθὰν καὶ Ἀδωνιὰν καὶ Τωβαδωβειά, Λευεῖται· οἱ μετʼ αὐτῶν, Ἐλεισαμὰ καὶ Ἰωρὰν οἱ ἱερεῖς.
accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
καὶ ἐδίδασκον ἐν Ἰούδα, καὶ μετʼ αὐτῶν βύβλος νόμου Κυρίου, καὶ διῆλθον ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν Ἰούδα καὶ ἐδίδασκον τὸν λαόν.
They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
καὶ ἐγένετο ἔκστασις Κυρίου ἐπὶ πάσαις ταῖς βασιλείαις τῆς γῆς κύκλῳ Ἰούδα, καὶ οὐκ ἐπολέμουν πρὸς Ἰωσαφάτ.
And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
καὶ ἦν Ἰωσαφὰτ πορευόμενος μείζων ἕως εἰς ὕψος, καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν οἰκήσεις ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ καὶ πόλεις ὀχυράς.
Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah
καὶ ἔργα πολλὰ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαία, καὶ ἄνδρες πολεμισταὶ δυνατοὶ ἰσχύοντες ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ.
and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.
καὶ οὗτος ἀριθμὸς αὐτῶν κατʼ οἴκους πατριῶν αὐτῶν· καὶ τῷ Ἰούδᾳ χιλίαρχοι. Ἐδνάας ὁ ἄρχων, καὶ μετʼ αὐτοῦ υἱοὶ δυνατοὶ δυνάμεως τριακόσιαι χιλιάδες·
These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of valor;
καὶ μετʼ αὐτὸν Ἰωανάν ὁ ἡγούμενος, καὶ μετʼ αὐτοῦ διακόσιαι ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες·
next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
καὶ μετʼ αὐτὸν Μασαίας τοῦ Ζαρεὶ ὁ προθυμούμενος τῷ κυρίῳ, καὶ μετʼ αὐτοῦ διακόσιαι χιλιάδες δυνατοὶ δυνάμεως.
and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.
καὶ ἐκ τοῦ Βενιαμεὶν δυνατὸς δυνάμεως καὶ Ἐλειδά, καὶ μετʼ αὐτοῦ τοξόται καὶ πελτασταὶ διακόσιαι χιλιάδες·
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
καὶ μετʼ αὐτὸν Ἰωζαβάδ, καὶ μετʼ αὐτοῦ ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα χιλιάδες δυνατοὶ πολέμου.
and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.
οὗτοι οἱ λειτουργοῦντες τῷ βασιλεῖ, ἐκτὸς ὧν ἔδωκεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν ταῖς πόλεσιν ταῖς ἀχυροῖς ἐν πάσῃ τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ.
These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοφύλων ἔφερον πρὸς Ἰωσαφὰτ δῶρα καὶ ἀργύριον καὶ δόματα, καὶ οἱ Ἁραβες ἔφερον αὐτῷ κριοὺς προβάτων ἑπτακισχιλίους ἑπτακοσίους.
