Die Knechte, so unter dem Joch sind, sollen ihre Herren aller Ehre wert halten, auf dass nicht der Name Gottes und die Lehre verlästert werde.
All who are under the yoke of slavery should regard their masters as fully worthy of honor, so that God’s name and our teaching will not be discredited.
Welche aber gläubige Herren haben, sollen sie nicht verachten, weil sie Brüder sind, sondern sollen viel mehr dienstbar sein, dieweil sie gläubig und geliebt und der Wohltat teilhaftig sind. Solches lehre und ermahne.
Those who have believing masters should not show disrespect because they are brothers, but should serve them all the more, since those receiving their good service are beloved believers. Teach and encourage these principles.
So jemand anders lehrt und bleibt nicht bei den heilsamen Worten unsres Herrn Jesu Christi und bei der Lehre, die gemäß ist der Gottseligkeit,
If anyone teaches another doctrine and disagrees with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with godly teaching,
der ist aufgeblasen und weiß nichts, sondern hat die Seuche der Fragen und Wortkriege, aus welchen entspringt Neid, Hader, Lästerung, böser Argwohn.
he is conceited and understands nothing. Instead, he has an unhealthy interest in controversies and disputes about words, out of which come envy, strife, abusive talk, evil suspicions,
Schulgezänke solcher Menschen, die zerrüttete Sinne haben und der Wahrheit beraubt sind, die da meinen, Gottseligkeit sei ein Gewerbe. Tue dich von solchen!
and constant friction between men of depraved mind who are devoid of the truth. These men regard godliness as a means of gain (note: BYZ and TR include Withdraw yourself from such.).
Es ist aber ein großer Gewinn, wer gottselig ist und lässet sich genügen.
Of course, godliness with contentment is great gain.
Denn wir haben nichts in die Welt gebracht; darum offenbar ist, wir werden auch nichts hinausbringen.
For we brought nothing into the world, so (note: BYZ and TR so certainly) we cannot carry anything out of it.
Wenn wir aber Nahrung und Kleider haben, so lasset uns genügen.
But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.
Denn die da reich werden wollen, die fallen in Versuchung und Stricke und viel törichte und schädliche Lüste, welche versenken die Menschen ins Verderben und Verdammnis.
Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
Denn Geiz ist eine Wurzel alles Übels; das hat etliche gelüstet und sind vom Glauben irregegangen und machen sich selbst viel Schmerzen.
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. By craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
Aber du, Gottesmensch, fliehe solches! Jage aber nach der Gerechtigkeit, der Gottseligkeit, dem Glauben, der Liebe, der Geduld, der Sanftmut;
But you, O man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
kämpfe den guten Kampf des Glaubens; ergreife das ewige Leben, dazu du auch berufen bist und bekannt hast ein gutes Bekenntnis vor vielen Zeugen.
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession before many witnesses.
Ich gebiete dir vor Gott, der alle Dinge lebendig macht, und vor Christo Jesu, der unter Pontius Pilatus bezeugt hat ein gutes Bekenntnis,
I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who made the good confession in His testimony before Pontius Pilate:
dass du haltest das Gebot ohne Flecken, untadelig, bis auf die Erscheinung unsres Herrn Jesu Christi,
Keep this commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ,
welche wird zeigen zu seiner Zeit der Selige und allein Gewaltige, der König aller Könige und Herr aller Herren,
which the blessed and only Sovereign One—the King of kings and Lord of lords—will bring about in His own time.
der allein Unsterblichkeit hat, der da wohnt in einem Licht, da niemand zukommen kann, welchen kein Mensch gesehen hat noch sehen kann; dem sei Ehre und ewiges Reich! Amen.
He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.
Den Reichen von dieser Welt gebiete, dass sie nicht stolz seien, auch nicht hoffen auf den ungewissen Reichtum, sondern auf den lebendigen Gott, der uns dargibt reichlich, allerlei zu genießen;
Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be conceited and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who richly provides all things for us to enjoy.
dass sie Gutes tun, reich werden an guten Werken, gern geben, behilflich seien,
Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share,
Schätze sammeln, sich selbst einen guten Grund aufs Zukünftige, dass sie ergreifen das wahre Leben.
treasuring up for themselves a firm foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
O Timotheus! bewahre, was dir vertraut ist, und meide die ungeistlichen, losen Geschwätze und das Gezänke der falsch berühmten Kunst,
O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid irreverent, empty chatter and the opposing arguments of so-called “knowledge,”
welche etliche vorgeben und gehen vom Glauben irre. Die Gnade sei mit dir! Amen.
