ἄχρι γὰρ νόμου, ἁμαρτία ἦν ἐν κόσμῳ, ἁμαρτία δὲ οὐκ ἐλλογεῖται, μὴ ὄντος νόμου.
For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
