124:1

Canticum graduum. Qui confidunt in Domino, sicut mons Sion : non commovebitur in æternum, qui habitat

A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side—let Israel now declare—

124:2

in Jerusalem. Montes in circuitu ejus ; et Dominus in circuitu populi sui, ex hoc nunc et usque in sæculum.

if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us,

124:3

Quia non relinquet Dominus virgam peccatorum super sortem justorum : ut non extendant justi ad iniquitatem manus suas,

when their anger flared against us, then they would have swallowed us alive,

124:4

benefac, Domine, bonis, et rectis corde.

then the floods would have engulfed us, then the torrent would have overwhelmed us,

124:5

Declinantes autem in obligationes, adducet Dominus cum operantibus iniquitatem. Pax super Israël !

then the raging waters would have swept us away.
