HErr, warum trittst du so ferne, verbirgst dich zur Zeit der Not?
Why, O LORD, do You stand far off? Why do You hide in times of trouble?
Weil der Gottlose Übermut treibt, muss der Elende leiden; sie hängen sich aneinander und erdenken böse Tücke.
In pride the wicked pursue the needy; let them be caught in the schemes they devise.
Denn der Gottlose rühmt sich seines Mutwillens, und der Geizige sagt dem Herrn ab und lästert ihn.
For the wicked man boasts in the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.
Der Gottlose meint in seinem Stolz, er frage nicht darnach; in allen seinen Tücken hält er Gott für nichts.
In his pride the wicked man does not seek Him; in all his schemes there is no God.
Er fährt fort mit seinem Tun immerdar; deine Gerichte sind ferne von ihm; er handelt trotzig mit allen seinen Feinden.
He is secure in his ways at all times; Your lofty judgments are far from him; he sneers at all his foes.
Er spricht in seinem Herzen: Ich werde nimmermehr darniederliegen; es wird für und für keine Not haben.
He says to himself, “I will not be moved; from age to age I am free of distress.”
Sein Mund ist voll Fluchens, Falschheit und Trugs; seine Zunge richtet Mühe und Arbeit an.
His mouth is full of cursing, deceit (note: LXX bitterness; cited in Romans 3:14), and violence; trouble and malice are under his tongue.
Er sitzt und lauert in den Dörfern; er erwürgt die Unschuldigen heimlich; seine Augen spähen nach dem Armen.
He lies in wait near the villages; in ambush he slays the innocent; his eyes watch in stealth for the helpless.
Er lauert im Verborgenen wie ein Löwe in der Höhle; er lauert, dass er den Elenden erhasche, und er haschet ihn, wenn er ihn in sein Netz zieht.
He lies in wait like a lion in a thicket; he lurks to seize the oppressed; he catches the lowly in his net.
Er zerschlägt und drückt nieder und stößt zu Boden den Armen mit Gewalt.
They are crushed and beaten down (note: Or He crouches and lies low); the helpless fall prey to his strength.
Er spricht in seinem Herzen: Gott hat's vergessen; er hat sein Antlitz verborgen, er wird's nimmermehr sehen.
He says to himself, “God has forgotten; He hides His face and never sees.”
Stehe auf, HErr; Gott, erhebe deine Hand; vergiss der Elenden nicht!
Arise, O LORD! Lift up Your hand, O God! Do not forget the helpless.
Warum soll der Gottlose Gott lästern und in seinem Herzen sprechen: Du fragest nicht darnach?
Why has the wicked man renounced God? He says to himself, “You will never call me to account.”
Du siehest ja, denn du schauest das Elend und den Jammer; es steht in deinen Händen. Die Armen befehlen's dir; du bist der Waisen Helfer.
But You have regarded trouble and grief; You see to repay it by Your hand. The victim entrusts himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.
Zerbrich den Arm des Gottlosen und suche heim das Böse, so wird man sein gottlos Wesen nimmer finden.
Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call him to account for his wickedness until none is left to be found.
Der HErr ist König immer und ewiglich; die Heiden müssen aus seinem Land umkommen.
The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations perish from His land.
Das Verlangen der Elenden hörst du, HErr; ihr Herz ist gewiss, dass dein Ohr darauf merket,
You have heard, O LORD, the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will incline Your ear,
dass du Recht schaffest dem Waisen und Armen, dass der Mensch nicht mehr trotze auf Erden.
to vindicate the fatherless and oppressed, that the men of the earth may strike terror no more.
