Καὶ π ροσελθοῦσαι αἱ θυγατέρες Σαλπαάδ υἰοῦ Ὅφερ υἱοῦ Γαλαὰδ υἱοῦ Μαχείρ, τοῦ δήμου Μανασσὴ τῶν υἱῶν ᾿Ιωσήφ, καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὁνόματα αὐτῶν· Μάλα καὶ Νουὰ καὶ ῾Εγλὰ καὶ Μελχὰ καὶ Θερσά·
Now the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. These were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They approached
καὶ στᾶσαι ἔναντι Μωυσῆ καὶ ἔναντι ᾿Ελεαζὰρ τοῦ ἱερέως καὶ ἔναντι τῶν ἀρχόντων καὶ ἔναντι πάσης συναγωγῆς ἐπὶ τῆς θύρας τῆς σκηνῆς τοῦ μαρτυρίου λέγουσιν
the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the whole congregation, and said,
῾Ο πατὴρ ἡμῶν ἀπέθανεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, καὶ αὐτὸς οὐκ ἢν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς συναγωγῆς τῆς ἐπισυστάσης ἔναντι κυρίου ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ κόρε· ὅτι διὰ ἁμαρτίαν αὐτοῦ ἀπέθανεν, καὶ υἱοὶ οὐκ ἐγένοντο αὐτῷ.
“Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among the followers of Korah who gathered together against the LORD. Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons.
μὴ ἐξαλειφθήτω τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἐκ μέσου τοῦ δήμου αὐτοῦ, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτῷ υἱός· δότε ἡμῖν κατάσῳ ἀδελφῶν πατρὸς ἡμῶν.
Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan because he had no sons? Give us property among our father’s brothers.”
δόμα δώσεις αὐταῖς κληρονομίας ἐν μέσῳ ἀδελφῶν πατρὸς αὐτῶν, καὶ περ θήσεις τὸν κλῆρον τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν αὐταῖς.
“The daughters of Zelophehad speak correctly. You certainly must give them property as an inheritance among their father’s brothers and transfer their father’s inheritance to them.
καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραὴλ λαλήσεις λέγων Ἅνθρωπος ἐὰν ἀποθάνῃ καὶ υἱὸς μὴ ἦν αὐτῷ, περιθήσετε τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ τῆ θυγατρὶ αὐτοῦ·
Furthermore, you shall say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, you are to transfer his inheritance to his daughter.
ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ᾖ θυγάτηρ αὐτῷ, δώσετε τὴν κληρονομίαν τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ·
If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.
ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ὦσιν αὐτῷ ἀδελφοί, δώσετε τὴν κληρονομίαν τῷ ἀδελφῷ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ·
If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ὦσιν ἀδελφοὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, δώσετε τὴν κληρονομίαν τῷ οἰκείῳ τῷ ἔγγιοτα αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς αὐτοῦ· κληρονομήσει τὰ αὐτοῦ. καὶ ἔσται τοῦτο τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ισραὴλ δικαίωμα κρίσεως, καθὰ συνέταξεν κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ.
And if his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the next of kin from his clan, that he may take possession of it. This is to be a statutory ordinance for the Israelites, as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”
Καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν ᾿Ανάβηθι εἰς τὸ ὄρος τὸ ἐν τῷ πέραν, τοῦτο τὸ ὄρος Ναβαύ, καὶ ἴδε τὴν γῆν Χανάαν, ἢν ἐγὼ δίδωμι τοῖς υἱοῖς ᾿Ισραὴλ ἐν κατασχέσει·
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go up this mountain of the Abarim range (note: LXX Go up Mount Nebo beyond the Jordan) and see the land that I have given the Israelites.
καὶ ὄψει αὐτήν, καὶ προστεθήσῃ πρὸς τὸν λαόν σου καὶ σύ, καθὰ προσετέθη ᾿Ααρὼν ὁ ἀδελφός σου ἐν τῷ Ὥρ τῷ ὄρει·
After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was;
διότι παρέβητε τὸ ῥῆμά μου ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Σεῖν, ἐν τῷ ἀντιπίπτειν τὴν συναγωγήν , ἁγιάσαι με· οὐχ ἡγιάσατέ με ἐπὶ τῷ ὕδατι ἔναντι αὐτῶν, τοῦτο ἔστιν ὕδωρ ἀντιλογίας ἐν Καδὴς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ Σεῖν.
for when the congregation contended in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against My command to show My holiness in their sight regarding the waters.” Those were the waters of Meribah (note: Meribah means quarreling; see Exodus 17:7.) in Kadesh, in the Wilderness of Zin.
᾿Επισκεψάσθω κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῶν πνευμάτων καὶ πάσης σαρκὸς ἄνθρωπον ἐπὶ τῆς συναγωγῆς ταύτης,
“May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation
ὅστις ἐξελεύσεται πρὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν καὶ πρὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν, καὶ ὅστις ἐξάξει αὐτοὺς αὐτούς, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ἡ συναγωγὴ κυρίου ὡσεὶ πρόβατα οἷς οὐκ ἔστιν ποιμήν.
who will go out and come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν λέγων Λάβε πρὸς σεαυτὸν τὸν Ἰησοῦν υἱὸν Ναυή, ἄνθρωπον ὃς ἔχει πνεῦμα ἐν ἑαυτῷ, καὶ ἐπιθήσεις τὰς χεῖράς σου ἐπ’ αὐτόν·
And the LORD replied to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man with the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.
καὶ στήσεις αὐτὸν ἔναντι ᾿Ελεαζὰρ τοῦ ἱερέως, καὶ ἐντελῇ αὐτῷ ἔναντι πάσης συναγωγῆς, καὶ ἐντελῇ περὶ αὐτοῦ ἐναντίον αὐτῶν·
Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, and commission him in their sight.
καὶ δώσεις τῆς δόξης σου ἐπ’ αὐτόν, ὅπως ἂν εἰσακούσωσιν αὐτοῦ οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραήλ.
Confer on him some of your authority, so that the whole congregation of Israel will obey him.
καὶ ἔναντι ᾿Ελεαζὰρ τοῦ ἱερέως στήσεται, καὶ ἔπερωτήσουσιν αὐτὸν τὴν κρίσιν τῶν δήλων ἔναντι κυρίου· ἐπὶ τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ ἐξελεύσονται καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ εἰσελεύσονται, αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ ᾿Ισραὴλ ὁμοθυμαδὸν καὶ πᾶσα ἡ συναγωγή.
He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who will seek counsel for him before the LORD by the judgment of the Urim (note: Literally the Lights). At his command, he and all the Israelites with him—the entire congregation—will go out and come in.”
καὶ ἐποίησεν Μωυσῆς καθὰ ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ κύριος· καὶ λαβὼν τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐναντίον ᾿Ελεαζὰρ τοῦ ἱερέως καὶ ἔναντι πάσης συναγωγῆς, καὶ ἐπέθηκεν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτόν, καὶ συνέστησεν αὐτόν, καθάπερ συνέταξεν κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ.
Moses did as the LORD had commanded him. He took Joshua, had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation,
