Und er ging aus von da und kam in seine Vaterstadt; und seine Jünger folgten ihm nach.
Jesus went on from there and came to His hometown, accompanied by His disciples.
Und da der Sabbat kam, hob er an zu lehren in ihrer Schule. Und viele, die es hörten, verwunderten sich seiner Lehre und sprachen: Woher kommt dem solches? Und was für Weisheit ist's, die ihm gegeben ist, und solche Taten, die durch seine Hände geschehen?
When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astonished. “Where did this man get these ideas?” they asked. “What is this wisdom He has been given? And how can He perform such miracles?
Ist er nicht der Zimmermann, Marias Sohn, und der Bruder des Jakobus und Joses und Judas und Simon? Sind nicht auch seine Schwestern allhier bei uns? Und sie ärgerten sich an ihm.
Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joses (note: Joses is a variant of Joseph; see Matthew 13:55.), Judas, and Simon? Aren’t His sisters here with us as well?” And they took offense at Him.
Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Ein Prophet gilt nirgend weniger denn im Vaterland und daheim bei den Seinen.
Then Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own household is a prophet without honor.”
Und er konnte allda nicht eine einzige Tat tun; außer wenig Siechen legte er die Hände auf und heilte sie.
So He could not perform any miracles there, except to lay His hands on a few of the sick and heal them.
Und er verwunderte sich ihres Unglaubens. Und er ging umher in die Flecken im Kreis und lehrte sie.
And He was amazed at their unbelief. And He went around from village to village, teaching the people.
Und er berief die Zwölf und hob an und sandte sie je zwei und zwei und gab ihnen Macht über die unsauberen Geister,
Then Jesus called the Twelve to Him and began to send them out two by two, giving them authority over unclean spirits.
und gebot ihnen, dass sie nichts bei sich trügen auf dem Wege denn allein einen Stab, keine Tasche, kein Brot, kein Geld im Gürtel,
He instructed them to take nothing but a staff for the journey—no bread, no bag, no money (note: Or copper coins) in their belts—
aber wären geschuht, und dass sie nicht zwei Röcke anzögen.
and to wear sandals, but not a second tunic.
Und sprach zu ihnen: Wo ihr in ein Haus gehen werdet, da bleibet bis ihr von dannen zieht.
And He told them, “When you enter a house, stay there until you leave that area.
Und welche euch nicht aufnehmen noch hören, da gehet von dannen heraus und schüttelt den Staub ab von euren Füßen zu einem Zeugnis über sie. Ich sage euch wahrlich: Es wird Sodom und Gomorrha am Jüngsten Gericht erträglicher gehen denn solcher Stadt.
If anyone will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that place, as a testimony against them (note: BYZ and TR include Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town; see Matthew 10:15.).”
Und sie gingen aus und predigten, man sollte Buße tun,
So they set out and preached that the people should repent.
und trieben viele Teufel aus und salbten viele Sieche mit Öl und machten sie gesund.
They also drove out many demons and healed many of the sick, anointing them with oil.
Und es kam vor den König Herodes (denn sein Name war nun bekannt) und er sprach: Johannes der Täufer ist von den Toten auferstanden, darum tut er solche Taten.
Now King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known, and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
Etliche aber sprachen: Er ist Elia; etliche aber: Er ist ein Prophet oder einer von den Propheten.
Others were saying, “He is Elijah,” and still others, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”
Da es aber Herodes hörte, sprach er: Es ist Johannes, den ich enthauptet habe; der ist von den Toten auferstanden.
But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen from the dead!”
Er aber, Herodes, hatte ausgesandt und Johannes gegriffen und ins Gefängnis gelegt um der Herodias willen, seines Bruders Philippus Weib; denn er hatte sie gefreit.
For Herod himself had ordered that John be arrested and bound and imprisoned, on account of his brother Philip’s wife Herodias, whom Herod had married.
Johannes aber sprach zu Herodes: Es ist nicht recht, dass du deines Bruders Weib habest.
For John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife!”
Herodias aber stellte ihm nach und wollte ihn töten, und konnte nicht.
So Herodias held a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she had been unable,
Herodes aber fürchtete Johannes; denn er wusste, dass er ein frommer und heiliger Mann war; und verwahrte ihn und gehorchte ihm in vielen Sachen und hörte ihn gern.
because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man. When he heard John’s words, he was greatly perplexed; yet he listened to him gladly.
Und es kam ein gelegener Tag, dass Herodes auf seinen Jahrestag ein Abendmahl gab den Obersten und Hauptleuten und Vornehmsten in Galiläa.
On Herod’s birthday, her opportunity arose. Herod held a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.
Da trat hinein die Tochter der Herodias und tanzte, und gefiel wohl dem Herodes und denen die am Tisch saßen. Da sprach der König zu dem Mägdlein: Bitte von mir, was du willst, ich will dir's geben.
When the daughter of Herodias (note: Some early manuscripts When his daughter Herodias) came and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests, and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”
Und er schwur ihr einen Eid: Was du wirst von mir bitten, will ich dir geben, bis an die Hälfte meines Königreiches.
And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom!”
Sie ging hinaus und sprach zu ihrer Mutter: Was soll ich bitten? Die sprach: Das Haupt Johannes des Täufers.
Then she went out and asked her mother, “What should I request?” And her mother answered, “The head of John the Baptist.”
Und sie ging alsbald hinein mit Eile zum König, bat und sprach: Ich will, dass du mir gebest jetzt zur Stunde auf einer Schüssel das Haupt Johannes des Täufers.
At once the girl hurried back to the king with her request: “I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.”
Der König war betrübt; doch um des Eides willen und derer, die am Tisch saßen, wollte er sie nicht lassen eine Fehlbitte tun.
The king was consumed with sorrow, but because of his oaths and his guests, he did not want to refuse her.
Und alsbald schickte hin der König den Henker und hieß sein Haupt herbringen. Der ging hin und enthauptete ihn im Gefängnis
So without delay, the king commanded that John’s head be brought in. He sent an executioner, who went and beheaded him in the prison.
und trug her sein Haupt auf einer Schüssel und gab's dem Mägdlein, und das Mägdlein gab's ihrer Mutter.
The man brought John’s head on a platter and presented it to the girl, who gave it to her mother.
Und da das seine Jünger hörten, kamen sie und nahmen seinen Leib, und legten ihn in ein Grab.
When John’s disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and placed it in a tomb.
Und die Apostel kamen zu Jesu zusammen und verkündigten ihm das alles und was sie getan und gelehrt hatten.
Meanwhile, the apostles gathered around Jesus and brought Him news of all they had done and taught.
Und er sprach zu ihnen: Lasset uns besonders an eine wüste Stätte gehen und ruht ein wenig. Denn ihr waren viele, die ab und zu gingen; und sie hatten nicht Zeit genug, zu essen.
And He said to them, “Come with Me privately to a solitary place, and let us rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
Und er fuhr da in einem Schiff zu einer wüsten Stätte besonders.
So they went away in a boat by themselves to a solitary place.
Und das Volk sah sie wegfahren; und viele kannten ihn und liefen dahin miteinander zu Fuß aus allen Städten und kamen ihnen zuvor und kamen zu ihm.
But many people saw them leaving and recognized them. They ran together on foot from all the towns and arrived before them.
Und Jesus ging heraus und sah das große Volk; und es jammerte ihn derselben; denn sie waren wie die Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben; und er fing an eine lange Predigt.
When Jesus stepped ashore and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And He began to teach them many things.
Da nun der Tag fast dahin war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm und sprachen: Es ist wüst hier, und der Tag ist nun dahin;
By now the hour was already late. So the disciples came to Jesus and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is already late.
lass sie von dir, dass sie hingehen umher in die Dörfer und Märkte und kaufen sich Brot, denn sie haben nichts zu essen.
Dismiss the crowd so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Gebt ihr ihnen zu essen. Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Sollen wir denn hingehen und für zweihundert Groschen Brot kaufen und ihnen zu essen geben?
But Jesus told them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked Him, “Should we go out and spend two hundred denarii (note: A denarius was customarily a day’s wage for a laborer; see Matthew 20:2.) to give all of them bread to eat?”
Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Wieviel Brot habt ihr? Gehet hin und sehet! Und da sie es erkundet hatten, sprachen sie: Fünf, und zwei Fische.
“Go and see how many loaves you have,” He told them. And after checking, they said, “Five—and two fish.”
Und er gebot ihnen, dass sie sich alle lagerten, tischweise, auf das grüne Gras.
Then Jesus directed them to have the people sit in groups on the green grass.
Und sie setzten sich nach Schichten, je hundert und hundert, fünfzig und fünfzig.
So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.
Und er nahm die fünf Brote und zwei Fische, sah zum Himmel auf und dankte und brach die Brote und gab sie den Jüngern, dass sie ihnen vorlegten; und die zwei Fische teilte er unter sie alle.
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, Jesus spoke a blessing and broke the loaves. Then He gave them to His disciples to set before the people. And He divided the two fish among them all.
Und sie hoben auf die Brocken, zwölf Körbe voll, und von den Fischen.
and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish.
Und die da gegessen hatten, waren fünftausend Mann.
And there were five thousand men who had eaten the loaves.
Und alsbald trieb er seine Jünger, dass sie in das Schiff träten und vor ihm hinüberführen gen Bethsaida, bis dass er das Volk von sich ließe.
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to Bethsaida, while He dismissed the crowd.
Und da er sie von sich geschafft hatte, ging er hin auf einen Berg, zu beten.
After bidding them farewell, He went up on the mountain to pray.
Und am Abend war das Schiff mitten auf dem Meer und er auf dem Lande allein.
When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and Jesus was alone on land.
Und er sah, dass sie Not litten im Rudern; denn der Wind war ihnen entgegen. Und um die vierte Wache der Nacht kam er zu ihnen und wandelte auf dem Meer;
He could see that the disciples were straining to row, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night (note: That is, between three and six in the morning), Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea. He intended to pass by them,
und er wollte an ihnen vorübergehen. Und da sie ihn sahen auf dem Meer wandeln, meinten sie, es wäre ein Gespenst, und schrieen;
but when they saw Him walking on the sea, they cried out, thinking He was a ghost—
denn sie sahen ihn alle und erschraken. Aber alsbald redete er mit ihnen und sprach zu ihnen: Seid getrost, ich bin's, fürchtet euch nicht!
for they all saw Him and were terrified. But Jesus spoke up at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
Und er trat zu ihnen ins Schiff, und der Wind legte sich. Und sie entsetzten und verwunderten sich über die Maßen,
Then He climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. And the disciples were utterly astounded,
denn sie waren nichts verständiger geworden über den Broten, und ihr Herz war erstarrt.
for they had not understood about the loaves, but their hearts had been hardened.
Und da sie hinübergefahren waren, kamen sie in das Land Genezareth und fuhren an.
When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and moored the boat.
Und da sie aus dem Schiff traten alsbald kannten sie ihn
As soon as they got out of the boat, the people recognized Jesus
und liefen in alle die umliegenden Länder und hoben an, die Kranken umherzuführen auf Betten, wo sie hörten, dass er war.
and ran through that whole region, carrying the sick on mats to wherever they heard He was.
Und wo er in die Märkte oder Städte oder Dörfer einging, da legten sie die Kranken auf den Markt und baten ihn, dass sie nur den Saum seines Kleides anrühren möchten; und alle, die ihn anrührten, wurden gesund.
And wherever He went—villages and towns and countrysides—they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him just to let them touch the fringe of His cloak. And all who touched Him were healed.
