Und bald am Morgen hielten die Hohenpriester einen Rat mit den Ältesten und Schriftgelehrten, dazu der ganze Rat, und banden Jesum und führten ihn hin und überantworteten ihn dem Pilatus.
Early in the morning, the chief priests, elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin (note: Or the whole Council) devised a plan. They bound Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate.
Und Pilatus fragte ihn: Bist du der König der Juden? Er antwortete aber und sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es.
So Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
Und die Hohenpriester beschuldigten ihn hart. {}
And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things.
Pilatus aber fragte ihn abermals und sprach: Antwortest du nichts? Siehe, wie hart sie dich verklagen!
Then Pilate questioned Him again, “Have You no answer? Look how many charges they are bringing against You!”
Jesus aber antwortete nichts mehr, also dass sich auch Pilatus verwunderte.
But to Pilate’s amazement, Jesus made no further reply.
Er pflegte aber ihnen auf das Osterfest einen Gefangenen loszugeben, welchen sie begehrten.
Now it was Pilate’s custom at the feast to release to the people a prisoner of their choosing.
Es war aber einer, genannt Barabbas, gefangen mit den Aufrührern, die im Aufruhr einen Mord begangen hatten.
And a man named Barabbas was imprisoned with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection.
Und das Volk ging hinauf und bat, dass er täte, wie er pflegte.
So the crowd went up and began asking Pilate to keep his custom.
Pilatus aber antwortete ihnen: Wollt ihr, dass ich euch den König der Juden losgebe?
“Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” Pilate asked.
Denn er wusste, dass ihn die Hohenpriester aus Neid überantwortet hatten.
For he knew it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over.
Aber die Hohenpriester reizten das Volk, das er ihnen viel lieber den Barabbas losgäbe.
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas to them instead.
Pilatus aber antwortete wiederum und sprach zu ihnen: Was wollt ihr denn, dass ich tue dem, den ihr beschuldigt, er sei der König der Juden?
So Pilate asked them again, “What then do you want me to do with the One you call the King of the Jews?”
Pilatus aber sprach zu ihnen: Was hat er Übles getan? Aber sie schrieen noch viel mehr: Kreuzige ihn!
“Why?” asked Pilate. “What evil has He done?” But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify Him!”
Pilatus aber gedachte, dem Volk genugzutun, und gab ihnen Barabbas los, und geißelte Jesum und überantwortete ihn, dass er gekreuzigt würde.
And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.
Die Kriegsknechte aber führten ihn hinein in das Richthaus und riefen zusammen die ganze Schar
Then the soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called the whole company together.
und zogen ihm einen Purpur an und flochten eine dornene Krone und setzten sie ihm auf,
They dressed Him in a purple robe, twisted together a crown of thorns, and set it on His head.
und fingen an, ihn zu grüßen: Gegrüßet seist du, der Juden König!
And they began to salute Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Und schlugen ihm das Haupt mit dem Rohr und verspeiten ihn und fielen auf die Kniee und beteten ihn an.
They kept striking His head with a staff and spitting on Him. And they knelt down and bowed before Him.
Und da sie ihn verspottet hatten, zogen sie ihm den Purpur aus und zogen seine eigenen Kleider an und führten ihn aus, dass sie ihn kreuzigten.
After they had mocked Him, they removed the purple robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him out to crucify Him.
Und zwangen einen, mit Namen Simon von Kyrene, der vom Felde kam (der ein Vater war des Alexander und Rufus), dass er sein Kreuz trüge.
Now Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus.
Und sie brachten ihn an die Stätte Golgatha, das ist verdolmetscht: Schädelstätte.
They brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull.
Und sie gaben ihm Myrrhe im Wein zu trinken; und er nahm's nicht zu sich.
There they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, but He did not take it.
Und da sie ihn gekreuzigt hatten, teilten sie seine Kleider und warfen das Los darum, wer etwas bekäme.
And they crucified Him. They also divided His garments by casting lots to decide what each of them would take (note: See Psalm 22:18.).
Und es war um die dritte Stunde, da sie ihn kreuzigten.
It was the third hour (note: That is, nine in the morning) when they crucified Him.
Und es war oben über ihm geschrieben was man ihm schuld gab, nämlich: Der König der Juden.
And the charge inscribed against Him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Und sie kreuzigten mit ihm zwei Mörder, einen zu seiner Rechten und einen zur Linken.
Along with Jesus, they crucified two robbers (note: Or insurrectionists), one on His right and one on His left (note: BYZ and TR include 28So the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “And He was numbered with the transgressors.” See Isaiah 53:12 and Luke 22:37.).
Und die vorübergingen, lästerten ihn und schüttelten ihre Häupter und sprachen: Pfui dich, wie fein zerbrichst du den Tempel und baust ihn in drei Tagen!
And those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
Desgleichen die Hohenpriester verspotteten ihn untereinander samt den Schriftgelehrten und sprachen: Er hat anderen geholfen, und kann sich selber nicht helfen.
In the same way, the chief priests and scribes mocked Him among themselves, saying, “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself!
Ist er Christus und König in Israel, so steige er nun vom Kreuz, dass wir sehen und glauben. Und die mit ihm gekreuzigt waren, schmähten ihn auch.
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” And even those who were crucified with Him berated Him.
Und nach der sechsten Stunde ward eine Finsternis über das ganze Land bis um die neunte Stunde.
From the sixth hour (note: That is, from noon until three in the afternoon) until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
Und um die neunte Stunde rief Jesus laut und sprach: Eli, Eli lama asabthani? das ist verdolmetscht: Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum hast du mich verlassen?
At the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me (note: Psalm 22:1)?”
Und etliche, die dabeistanden, da sie es hörten, sprachen sie: Siehe er ruft den Elia.
When some of those standing nearby heard this, they said, “Behold, He is calling Elijah.”
Da lief einer und füllte einen Schwamm mit Essig und steckte ihn auf ein Rohr und tränkte ihn und sprach: Halt, lasst sehen, ob Elia komme und ihn herabnehme.
And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine (note: Or a sponge with wine vinegar). He put it on a reed and held it up for Jesus to drink, saying, “Leave Him alone. Let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down.”
Und der Vorhang im Tempel zerriss in zwei Stücke von obenan bis untenaus.
And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
Der Hauptmann aber, der dabeistand ihm gegenüber und sah, dass er mit solchem Geschrei verschied, sprach: Wahrlich, dieser Mensch ist Gottes Sohn gewesen!
When the centurion standing there in front of Jesus saw how He had breathed His last (note: BYZ and TR saw how, having cried out, He had breathed His last), he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
Und es waren auch Weiber da, die von ferne solches sahen; unter welchen war Maria Magdalena und Maria, Jakobus des Kleinen und des Joses Mutter, und Salome,
And there were also women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses (note: Joses is a variant of Joseph; see Matthew 27:56.), and Salome.
die ihm auch nachgefolgt waren, da er in Galiläa war, und gedient hatten, und viele andere, die mit ihm hinauf gen Jerusalem gegangen waren.
These women had followed Jesus and ministered to Him while He was in Galilee, and there were many other women who had come up to Jerusalem with Him.
Und am Abend, dieweil es der Rüsttag war, welcher ist der Vorsabbat,
Now it was already evening. Since it was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath),
kam Joseph von Arimathia, ein ehrbarer Ratsherr, welcher auch auf das Reich Gottes wartete. Der wagte es und ging hinein zu Pilatus und bat um den Leichnam Jesu.
Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent Council member who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus.
Pilatus aber verwunderte sich, dass er schon tot war, und rief den Hauptmann und fragte ihn, ob er schon lange gestorben wäre.
Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead, so he summoned the centurion to ask if this was so.
Und als er's erkundet von dem Hauptmann, gab er Joseph den Leichnam.
When Pilate had confirmed it with the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.
Und er kaufte eine Leinwand und nahm ihn ab und wickelte ihn in die Leinwand und legte ihn in ein Grab, das war in einen Felsen gehauen, und wälzte einen Stein vor des Grabes Tür.
So Joseph bought a linen cloth, took down the body of Jesus, wrapped it in the cloth, and placed it in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.
Aber Maria Magdalena und Maria, des Joses Mutter, schauten zu, wo er hingelegt ward.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph (note: Or Joses) saw where His body was placed.
