Denn des Leibes Leben ist im Blut, und ich habe es euch auf den Altar gegeben, dass eure Seelen damit versöhnt werden. Denn das Blut ist die Versöhnung, weil das Leben in ihm ist.
For the life (note: Literally the soul; also in verse 14) of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for your souls upon the altar; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.
