Ex illo die vocatus est Gedeon Jerobaal, eo quod dixisset Joas : Ulciscatur se de eo Baal, qui suffodit aram ejus.
So on that day Gideon was called Jerubbaal (note: Jerubbaal probably means let Baal contend.), that is to say, “Let Baal contend with him,” because he had torn down Baal’s altar.
