Therefore on that day he was called Jerubbaal (note: That is, Let Baal contend.), saying: ‘Let Baal contend against him, because he hath broken down his altar.’
So on that day Gideon was called Jerubbaal (note: Jerubbaal probably means let Baal contend.), that is to say, “Let Baal contend with him,” because he had torn down Baal’s altar.
