Filii autem Israël prævaricati sunt mandatum, et usurpaverunt de anathemate. Nam Achan filius Charmi filii Zabdi filii Zare de tribu Juda tulit aliquid de anathemate : iratusque est Dominus contra filios Israël.
The Israelites, however, acted unfaithfully regarding the things devoted to destruction (note: Forms of the Hebrew cherem refer to the giving over of things or persons to the LORD, either by destroying them or by giving them as an offering; also in verses 11, 12, 13, and 15.). Achan (note: Achan means troubler; also called Achar in 1 Chronicles 2:7.) son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi (note: Zabdi is a variant of Zimri; also in verses 17 and 18; see LXX and 1 Chronicles 2:6.), the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of what was set apart. So the anger of the LORD burned against the Israelites.
