καὶ ἐξεκκλησιάσθη πᾶσα συναγωγὴ υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ εἰς Σηλώ, κα ἔπηξαν ἐκεῖ τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου, καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐκρατήθη ὑπ’ αὐτῶν·
Then the whole congregation of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the Tent of Meeting there. And though the land was subdued before them,
καὶ κατελείφθησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ οἳ οὐκ ἐκληρονόμησαν, ἑπτὰ φυλαί.
there were still seven tribes of Israel who had not yet received their inheritance.
καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραὴλ Ἓως τίνος ἐκλυθήσεσθε κληροἣν ἔδωκεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν ;
So Joshua said to the Israelites, “How long will you put off entering and possessing the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
δότε ἐξ ὑμῶν τρεῖς ἄνδρας ἐκ φυλῆς, καὶ ἀναστάντες διελθέτωσαν τὴν γῆν, καὶ διαγραψάτωσαν αὐτὴν ἐναντίον μου καθὰ δεήσει διελθεῖν αὐτήν. κοὶ διήλθοσαν πρὸς αὐτόν,
Appoint three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to survey the land and map it out, according to the inheritance of each. Then they will return to me
καὶ διεῖλεν αὐτοῖς ἑπτὰ μερίδας. στήσεται αὐτοῖς ὅριον ἀπὸ λιβός, καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰωσὴφ στήσονται ἀπὸ βορρᾶ.
and divide the land into seven portions. Judah shall remain in their territory in the south, and the house of Joseph shall remain in their territory in the north.
ὑμεῖς δὲ μερίσατε τὴν γῆν ἑπτὰ μερίδας καὶ πρὸς μὲ ὧδε, καὶ ἐξοίσω ὑμῖν κλῆρον ἔναντι κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν.
When you have mapped out the seven portions of land and brought it to me, I will cast lots for you here in the presence of the LORD our God.
οὐ γάρ ἐστιν μερὶς τοῖς υἱοῖς Λευεὶ ἐν ὑμῖν, ἱερατεία γὰρ κυρίου αὐτοῦ· καὶ Γὰδ καὶ Ῥουβὴν καὶ τὸ ἥμισυ φυλῆς τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτῶν πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου ἐπ’ ἁ ἣν ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς Μωυσῆς ὁ παῖς κυρίου.
The Levites, however, have no portion among you, because their inheritance is the priesthood of the LORD. And Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received the inheritance that Moses the servant of the LORD gave them beyond the Jordan to the east.”
καὶ ἀναστάντες οἱ ἐπορεύθησαν. καὶ ἐνετείλατο Ἰησοῦς τοῖς ἀνδράσιν τοῖς πορευομένοις χωροβατῆσαι τὴν γῆν λέγων Πορεύεσθε καὶ χωροβατήσατε τὴν γῆν, καὶ παραγενήθητε πρὸς μέ· καὶ ὧδε ἐξοίσω ὑμῖν κλῆρον ἔναντι κυρίου ἐν Σληώ.
As the men got up to go out, Joshua commanded them to map out the land, saying, “Go and survey the land, map it out, and return to me. Then I will cast lots for you here in Shiloh in the presence of the LORD.”
καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ ἐχωροβάτησαν τὴν γῆν, καὶ ἴδοσαν αὐτήν, καὶ ἔγραψαν αὐτὴν κατὰ πόλεις ἑπτὰ μερίδας εἰς βιβλίον, καὶ ἤνεγκαν πρὸς Ἰησοῦν.
So the men departed and went throughout the land, mapping it city by city into seven portions. Then they returned with the document to Joshua at the camp in Shiloh.
καὶ ἐνέβαλεν αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς κλῆρον ἐν Σηλὼ ἔναντι κυρίου.
And Joshua cast lots for them in the presence of the LORD at Shiloh, where he distributed the land to the Israelites according to their divisions.
καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ κηῆρ πρῶτος κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν· καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὃρια τοῦ κλήρου ἀνὰ μέσον Ἰούδα καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν υἱῶν Ἰωσήφ.
The first lot came up for the clans of the tribe of Benjamin. Their allotted territory lay between the tribes of Judah and Joseph:
καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτῶν τὰ ὅρια ἀπὸ βορρᾶ· ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἰορδάνου προσαναβήσεται τὰ ὅρια κατὰ νώτου Ἰερειχὼ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ, καὶ ἀναβήσεται ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος ἐπὶ τὴν θάλασσαν, καὶ ἔσται αὐτοῦ ἡ διέξοδος Μαβδαρεῖτις Βαιθών·
On the north side their border began at the Jordan, went up past the northern slope of Jericho, headed west through the hill country, and came out at the wilderness of Beth-aven.
καὶ διελεύσεται ἐκεῖθεν τὰ δρία Λοῦζα ἐπὶ νώτου Λοῦζα ἀπὸ λιβὸς αὐτῆς, αὕτη ἐστὶν Βαιθήλ· καὶ καταβήσεται τὰ ὅρια Μααταρωθορὲχ ἐπὶ τὴν ὀρεινήν, ἥ ἐστιν πρὸς λίβα Βαιθωρών, ἡ κάτω·
From there the border crossed over to the southern slope of Luz (that is, Bethel) and went down to Ataroth-addar on the hill south of Lower Beth-horon.
καὶ διελεύσεται τὰ ὅρια καὶ παρελεύσεται ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος τὸ βλέπον παρὰ θάλασσαν ἀπὸ λιβός, ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους ἐπὶ πρόσωπον Βαιθωρὼν λίβα, κοὶ ἔσται αὐτοῦ ἡ διέξοδος εἰς Καριαθβάαλ, αὕτη ἐστὶν Καριαθιαρείν, πόλι υἱῶν Ἰούδα· τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ μέρος τὸ πρὸς θάλασσαν
On the west side the border curved southward from the hill facing Beth-horon on the south and came out at Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city of the sons of Judah. This was the western side.
καὶ μέρος τὸ πρὸς λίβα ἀπό μέρους Καριαθβάαλ· καὶ διελεύσεται ὅρια εἰς Γασεἱν, ἐπὶ πηγὴν ὕδατος Ναφθώ·
On the south side the border began at the outskirts of Kiriath-jearim and extended westward to the spring at the Waters of Nephtoah.
καὶ καταβήσεται τὰ ὅρια ἐπὶ μέρους, τοῦτό ἐστιν κατὰ πρόσωπον νάπης Σοννάμ, ὅ ἐστιν ἐκ μέρους Ἐμεκραφαεὶν ἀπὸ βορρᾶ· καὶ καταβήσεται Γαίεννα ἐπὶ νότον Ἰεβουσαὶ ἀπὸ λιβός, καταβήσεται ἐπὶ πηγὴν Ῥωγήλ·
Then it went down to the foot of the hill that faces the Valley of Ben-hinnom at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim and ran down the Valley of Hinnom toward the southern slope of the Jebusites and downward to En-rogel.
καὶ διελεύσεται ἐπὶ πηγὴν Βαιθσάμυς, καὶ παρελεύσεται ἐπὶ Γαλιαώθ, ἥ ἀπέναντι πρὸς ἀνάβασιν Αἰθαμείν, καὶ καταβήσεται ἐπὶ λίθον υἱῶν Ῥουβήν·
From there it curved northward and proceeded to En-shemesh and on to Geliloth facing the Ascent of Adummim, and continued down to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
καὶ διελεύσεται κατὰ νώτου Βαιθαραβὰ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ, καὶ καταβήσεται
Then it went on to the northern slope of Beth-arabah (note: LXX; Hebrew slope facing the Arabah) and went down into the valley.
ἐπὶ τὰ ὅρια ἐπὶ νῶτον θάλασσαν ἀπὸ βορρᾶ· καὶ ἔσται ἡ διέξοδος τῶν ὁρίων ἐπὶ λοφιὰν τῆς θαλάσσης τῶν ἁλῶν ἑ ’πὶ βορρᾶν εἰς μέρος τοῦ Ἰορδάνου ἀπὸ λιβός· ταῦτα τὰ ἅ ἐστιν ἀπὸ λιβός.
The border continued to the northern slope of Beth-hoglah and came out at the northern bay of the Salt Sea, at the mouth of the Jordan. This was the southern border.
καὶ ὁ Ἰορδάνης ὁριεῖ ἀπὸ μέρους ἀνατολῶν. αὕτη ἡ κληρονομία υἱῶν Βενειαμείν, τὰ ὅρια αὐτῆς κύκλῳ κατὰ δήμους.
On the east side the border was the Jordan. These were the borders around the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
καὶ ἐγενήθησαν αἱ πόλεις τῶν υἱῶν Βενιαμέὶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν Ἰερειχὼ καὶ Βεθεγαιὼ καὶ Ἀμεκασεὶς
These were the cities of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin: Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz,
καὶ Καραφὰ καὶ Κεφειρὰ καὶ Μονεὶ καὶ Γάβαα, πόλεις δέκα δύο καὶ αἱ κῶμαι αὐτῶν·
Chephar-ammoni, Ophni, and Geba—twelve cities, along with their villages.
καὶ Ἰεβούς, αὕτη ἐστὶν Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ πόλεις καὶ Γαβαωθιαρείμ, πόλεις τρεῖς καὶ δέκα καὶ αἱ κῶμαι αὐτῶν. αὕτη ἡ κληρονομία υἱῶν Βενιαμεὶν κατὰ δήμους αὐτῶν.
Zelah, Haeleph, Jebus (note: LXX, Syriac, and Vulgate; Hebrew the Jebusite) (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah (note: Hebrew Gibeath), and Kiriath-jearim (note: LXX; Hebrew Kiriath)—fourteen cities, along with their villages. This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
