Darnach zog Jesus umher in Galiläa; denn er wollte nicht in Judäa umherziehen, darum dass ihm die Juden nach dem Leben stellten.
After this, Jesus traveled throughout Galilee. He did not want to travel in Judea, because the Jews there were trying to kill Him.
Es war aber nahe der Juden Fest, die Laubhütten.
However, the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (note: That is, Sukkot, the autumn feast of pilgrimage to Jerusalem; also translated as the Feast of Booths or the Feast of Shelters and originally called the Feast of Ingathering (see Exodus 23:16 and Exodus 34:22).) was near.
Da sprachen seine Brüder zu ihm: Mache dich auf von dannen und gehe nach Judäa, auf dass auch deine Jünger sehen, die Werke die du tust.
So Jesus’ brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go to Judea, so that Your disciples there may see the works You are doing.
Niemand tut etwas im Verborgenen und will doch frei offenbar sein. Tust du solches, so offenbare dich vor der Welt.
For no one who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Since You are doing these things, show Yourself to the world.”
Da spricht Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Zeit ist noch nicht hier; eure Zeit aber ist allewege.
Therefore Jesus told them, “Although your time is always at hand, My time has not yet come.
Die Welt kann euch nicht hassen; mich aber hasst sie, denn ich zeuge von ihr, dass ihre Werke böse sind.
The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me, because I testify that its works are evil.
Gehet ihr hinauf auf dieses Fest; ich will noch nicht hinaufgehen auf dieses Fest, den meine Zeit ist noch nicht erfüllt.
Go up to the feast on your own. I am not going up to this feast, because My time has not yet come.”
Da er aber das zu ihnen gesagt, blieb er in Galiläa.
Having said this, Jesus remained in Galilee.
Als aber seine Brüder waren hinaufgegangen, da ging er auch hinauf zu dem Fest, nicht offenbar, sondern wie heimlich.
But after His brothers had gone up to the feast, He also went—not publicly, but in secret.
Da suchten ihn die Juden am Fest und sprachen: Wo ist der?
So the Jews were looking for Him at the feast and asking, “Where is He?”
Und es war ein großes Gemurmel unter dem Volk. Etliche sprachen: Er ist fromm; die andern aber sprachen: Nein, er verführt das Volk.
Many in the crowds were whispering about Him. Some said, “He is a good man.” But others replied, “No, He deceives the people.”
Niemand aber redete frei von ihm um der Furcht willen vor den Juden.
Yet no one would speak publicly about Him for fear of the Jews.
Aber mitten im Fest ging Jesus hinauf in den Tempel und lehrte.
About halfway through the feast, Jesus went up to the temple courts and began to teach.
Und die Juden verwunderten sich und sprachen: Wie kann dieser die Schrift, so er sie doch nicht gelernt hat?
The Jews were amazed and asked, “How did this man attain such learning without having studied?”
Jesus antwortete ihnen und sprach: Meine Lehre ist nicht mein, sondern des, der mich gesandt hat.
“My teaching is not My own,” Jesus replied. “It comes from Him who sent Me.
So jemand will des Willen tun, der wird innewerden, ob diese Lehre von Gott sei, oder ob ich von mir selbst rede.
If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.
Wer von sich selbst redet, der sucht seine eigene Ehre; wer aber sucht die Ehre des, der ihn gesandt hat, der ist wahrhaftig, und ist keine Ungerechtigkeit an ihm.
He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is a man of truth; in Him there is no falsehood.
Hat euch nicht Mose das Gesetz gegeben? und niemand unter euch tut das Gesetz. Warum sucht ihr mich zu töten?
Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps it. Why are you trying to kill Me?”
Das Volk antwortete und sprach: Du hast den Teufel; wer versucht dich zu töten?
“You have a demon,” the crowd replied. “Who is trying to kill You?”
Jesus antwortete und sprach: Ein einziges Werk habe ich getan, und es wundert euch alle.
Jesus answered them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed.
Mose hat euch darum gegeben die Beschneidung, nicht dass sie von Mose kommt, sondern von den Vätern, und ihr beschneidet den Menschen am Sabbat.
But because Moses gave you circumcision, you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath (not that it is from Moses, but from the patriarchs.)
So ein Mensch die Beschneidung annimmt am Sabbat, auf dass nicht das Gesetz Moses gebrochen werde, zürnet ihr denn über mich, dass ich den ganzen Menschen habe am Sabbat gesund gemacht?
If a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses will not be broken, why are you angry with Me for making the whole man well on the Sabbath?
Richtet nicht nach dem Ansehen, sondern richtet ein rechtes Gericht.
Stop judging by outward appearances, and start judging justly.”
Da sprachen etliche aus Jerusalem: Ist das nicht der, den sie suchten zu töten?
Then some of the people of Jerusalem began to say, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?
Und siehe zu, er redet frei, und sie sagen nichts. Erkennen unsre Obersten nun gewiss, dass er gewiss Christus sei?
Yet here He is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying anything to Him. Have the rulers truly recognized that this is the Christ?
Doch wir wissen, woher dieser ist; wenn aber Christus kommen wird, so wird niemand wissen, woher er ist.
But we know where this man is from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where He is from.”
Da rief Jesus im Tempel und sprach: Ja, ihr kennet mich und wisset, woher ich bin; und von mir selbst bin ich nicht gekommen, sondern es ist ein Wahrhaftiger, der mich gesandt hat, welchen ihr nicht kennet.
Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “You know Me, and you know where I am from. I have not come of My own accord, but He who sent Me is true. You do not know Him,
Ich kenne ihn aber; denn ich bin von ihm, und er hat mich gesandt.
but I know Him, because I am from Him and He sent Me.”
Da suchten sie ihn zu greifen; aber niemand legte die Hand an ihn, denn seine Stunde war noch nicht gekommen.
So they tried to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.
Aber viele vom Volk glaubten an ihn und sprachen: Wenn Christus kommen wird, wird er auch mehr Zeichen tun, denn dieser tut?
Many in the crowd, however, believed in Him and said, “When the Christ comes, will He perform more signs than this man?”
Und es kam vor die Pharisäer, dass das Volk solches von ihm murmelte. Da sandten die Pharisäer und Hohenpriester Knechte aus, das sie ihn griffen.
When the Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Jesus, they and the chief priests sent officers to arrest Him.
Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Ich bin noch eine kleine Zeit bei euch, und dann gehe ich hin zu dem, der mich gesandt hat.
So Jesus said, “I am with you only a little while longer, and then I am going to the One who sent Me.
Ihr werdet mich suchen, und nicht finden; und wo ich bin, könnet ihr nicht hin kommen.
You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”
Da sprachen die Juden untereinander: Wo soll dieser hin gehen, dass wir ihn nicht finden sollen? Will er zu den Zerstreuten unter den Griechen gehen und die Griechen lehren?
At this, the Jews said to one another, “Where does He intend to go that we will not find Him? Will He go where the Jews are dispersed among the Greeks (note: Literally Will He go to the Diaspora among the Greeks; the Jewish people living outside the land of Israel since the Babylonian exile were referred to as the Diaspora.), and teach the Greeks?
Was ist das für eine Rede, dass er sagte: „Ihr werdet mich suchen, und nicht finden; und wo ich bin, da könnet ihr nicht hin kommen”?
What does He mean by saying, ‘You will look for Me, but you will not find Me,’ and, ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
Aber am letzten Tage des Festes, der am herrlichsten war, trat Jesus auf, rief und sprach: Wen da dürstet, der komme zu mir und trinke!
On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
Wer an mich glaubt, wie die Schrift sagt, von des Leibe werden Ströme des lebendigen Wassers fließen.
Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said: ‘Streams of living water will flow from within him.’”
Das sagte er aber von dem Geist, welchen empfangen sollten, die an ihn glaubten; denn der Heilige Geist war noch nicht da, denn Jesus war noch nicht verklärt.
He was speaking about the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Viele nun vom Volk, die diese Rede hörten, sprachen: Dieser ist wahrlich der Prophet.
On hearing these words, some of the people said, “This is truly the Prophet.”
Andere sprachen: Er ist Christus. Etliche aber sprachen: Soll Christus aus Galiläa kommen?
Others declared, “This is the Christ.” But still others asked, “How can the Christ come from Galilee?
Spricht nicht die Schrift: von dem Samen Davids und aus dem Flecken Bethlehem, da David war, soll Christus kommen?
Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Christ will come from the line of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived (note: See Micah 5:2.)?”
Also ward eine Zwietracht unter dem Volk über ihn.
So there was division in the crowd because of Jesus.
Es wollten aber etliche ihn greifen; aber niemand legte die Hand an ihn.
Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him.
Die Knechte kamen zu den Hohenpriestern und Pharisäern; und sie sprachen zu ihnen: Warum habt ihr ihn nicht gebracht?
Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring Him in?”
Die Knechte antworteten: Es hat nie ein Mensch also geredet wie dieser Mensch.
“Never has anyone spoken like this man!” the officers answered.
Da antworteten ihnen die Pharisäer: Seid ihr auch verführt?
“Have you also been deceived?” replied the Pharisees.
Glaubt auch irgendein Oberster oder Pharisäer an ihn?
“Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?
sondern das Volk, das nichts vom Gesetz weiß, ist verflucht.
But this crowd that does not know the law—they are under a curse.”
Spricht zu ihnen Nikodemus, der bei der Nacht zu ihm kam, welcher einer unter ihnen war:
Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who himself was one of them, asked,
Richtet unser Gesetz auch einen Menschen, ehe man ihn verhört und erkennt, was er tut?
“Does our law convict a man without first hearing from him to determine what he has done?”
Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Bist du auch ein Galiläer? Forsche und siehe, aus Galiläa steht kein Prophet auf.
“Aren’t you also from Galilee (note: Some early manuscripts do not include John 7:53 through John 8:11.)?” they replied. “Look into it, and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee.”
