Da kam Joseph und sagte es Pharao an und sprach: Mein Vater und meine Brüder, ihr kleines und großes Vieh und alles, was sie haben, sind gekommen aus dem Lande Kanaan; und siehe, sie sind im Lande Gosen.
So Joseph went and told Pharaoh: “My father and my brothers, with their flocks and herds and all they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen.”
Und er nahm aus allen seinen Brüdern fünf und stellte sie vor Pharao.
And he chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.
Da sprach Pharao zu seinen Brüdern: Was ist eure Nahrung? Sie antworteten: Deine Knechte sind Viehhirten, wir und unsre Väter;
“What is your occupation?” Pharaoh asked Joseph’s brothers. “Your servants are shepherds,” they replied, “both we and our fathers.”
und sagten weiter zu Pharao: Wir sind gekommen, bei euch zu wohnen im Lande; denn deine Knechte haben nicht Weide für ihr Vieh, so hart drückt die Teuerung das Land Kanaan; so lass doch nun deine Knechte im Lande Gosen wohnen.
Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live in the land for a time, because there is no pasture for the flocks of your servants, since the famine in the land of Canaan has been severe. So now, please allow your servants to settle in the land of Goshen.”
Pharao sprach zu Joseph: Es ist dein Vater und sind deine Brüder, die sind zu dir gekommen;
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Now that your father and brothers have come to you,
das Land Ägypten steht dir offen, lass sie am besten Ort des Landes wohnen, lass sie im Lande Gosen wohnen; und so du weißt, dass Leute unter ihnen sind, die tüchtig sind, so setze sie über mein Vieh.
the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and brothers in the best part of the land. They may dwell in the land of Goshen. And if you know of any talented men among them, put them in charge of my own livestock.”
Joseph brachte auch seinen Vater Jakob hinein und stellte ihn vor Pharao. Und Jakob segnete den Pharao.
Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and presented him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
Jakob sprach zu Pharao: Die Zeit meiner Wallfahrt ist hundertdreißig Jahre; wenig und böse ist die Zeit meines Lebens und langt nicht an die Zeit meiner Väter in ihrer Wallfahrt.
“My travels (note: Hebrew sojourns; twice in this verse) have lasted 130 years,” Jacob replied. “My years have been few and hard, and they have not matched the years of the travels of my fathers.”
Und Jakob segnete den Pharao und ging heraus von ihm.
Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh and departed from his presence.
Aber Joseph schaffte seinem Vater und seinen Brüdern Wohnung und gab ihnen Besitz in Ägyptenland, am besten Ort des Landes, im Lande Raemses, wie Pharao geboten hatte.
So Joseph settled his father and brothers in the land of Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the district of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.
Und er versorgte seinen Vater und seine Brüder und das ganze Haus seines Vaters mit Brot, einen jeglichen, nachdem er Kinder hatte.
Joseph also provided his father and brothers and all his father’s household with food for their families.
Es war aber kein Brot in allen Landen; denn die Teuerung war sehr schwer, dass das Land Ägypten und Kanaan verschmachteten vor der Teuerung.
There was no food, however, in all that region, because the famine was so severe; the lands of Egypt and Canaan had been exhausted by the famine.
Und Joseph brachte alles Geld zusammen, das in Ägypten und Kanaan gefunden ward, um das Getreide, das sie kauften; und Joseph tat alles Geld in das Haus Pharaos.
Joseph collected all the money to be found in the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan in exchange for the grain they were buying, and he brought it into Pharaoh’s palace.
Da nun Geld gebrach im Lande Ägypten und Kanaan, kamen alle Ägypter zu Joseph und sprachen: Schaffe uns Brot! Warum lässt du uns vor dir sterben, darum dass wir ohne Geld sind?
When the money from the lands of Egypt and Canaan was gone, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? For our funds have run out!”
Joseph sprach: Schafft euer Vieh her, so will ich euch um das Vieh geben, weil ihr ohne Geld seid.
“Then bring me your livestock,” said Joseph. “Since the money is gone, I will sell you food in exchange for your livestock.”
Da brachten sie Joseph ihr Vieh; und er gab ihnen Brot um ihre Pferde, Schafe, Rinder und Esel. Also ernährte er sie mit Brot das Jahr um all ihr Vieh.
So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses, their flocks and herds, and their donkeys. Throughout that year he provided them with food in exchange for all their livestock.
Da das Jahr um war, kamen sie zu ihm im zweiten Jahr und sprachen zu ihm: Wir wollen unsrem Herrn nicht verbergen, dass nicht allein das Geld sondern auch alles Vieh dahin ist zu unsrem Herrn; und ist nichts mehr übrig vor unsrem Herrn denn nur unsre Leiber und unser Feld.
When that year was over, they came to him the second year and said, “We cannot hide from our lord that our money is gone and all our livestock belongs to you. There is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land.
Warum lässt du uns vor dir sterben und unser Feld? Kaufe uns und unser Land ums Brot, dass wir und unser Land leibeigen seien dem Pharao; gib uns Samen, dass wir leben und nicht sterben und das Feld nicht wüst werde.
Why should we perish before your eyes—we and our land as well? Purchase us and our land in exchange for food. Then we, along with our land, will be slaves to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become desolate.”
Also kaufte Joseph dem Pharao das ganze Ägypten. Denn die Ägypter verkauften ein jeglicher seinen Acker, denn die Teuerung war zu stark über sie. Und ward also das Land Pharao eigen.
So Joseph acquired for Pharaoh all the land in Egypt; the Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields because the famine was so severe upon them. The land became Pharaoh’s,
Und er teilte das Volk aus in die Städte, von einem Ende Ägyptens bis ans andere.
and Joseph reduced the people to servitude (note: SP, LXX, Vulgate; Hebrew removed the people to the cities) from one end of Egypt to the other.
Ausgenommen der Priester Feld, das kaufte er nicht; denn es war von Pharao für die Priester verordnet, dass sie sich nähren sollten von dem Verordneten, das er ihnen gegeben hatte; darum brauchten sie ihr Feld nicht zu verkaufen.
However, he did not acquire the priests’ portion of the land, for it had been given to them by Pharaoh. They ate the rations that Pharaoh supplied; so they did not sell their land.
Da sprach Joseph zu dem Volk: Siehe, ich habe heute gekauft euch und euer Feld dem Pharao; siehe, da habt ihr Samen und besäet das Feld.
Then Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have acquired you and your land for Pharaoh this day, here is seed for you to sow in the land.
Und von dem Getreide sollt ihr den Fünften Pharao geben; vier Teile sollen euer sein, zu besäen das Feld und zu eurer Speise und für euer Haus und eure Kinder.
At harvest time, you are to give a fifth of it to Pharaoh, and four-fifths will be yours as seed for the field and food for yourselves and your households and children.”
Sie sprachen: Du hast uns am Leben erhalten; lass uns nur Gnade finden vor dir, unsrem Herrn, so wollen wir gerne Pharao leibeigen sein.
“You have saved our lives,” they said. “We have found favor in our lord’s eyes, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”
Also machte Joseph ihnen ein Gesetz bis auf diesen Tag über der Ägypter Feld, den Fünften Pharao zu geben; ausgenommen der Priester Feld, das ward Pharao nicht eigen.
So Joseph established a law that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh, and it is in effect in the land of Egypt to this day. Only the priests’ land does not belong to Pharaoh.
Also wohnte Israel in Ägypten im Lande Gosen, und hatten's inne und wuchsen und mehrten sich sehr.
Now the Israelites settled in the land of Egypt, in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and became fruitful and increased greatly in number.
Und Jakob lebte siebzehn Jahre in Ägyptenland, dass sein ganzes Alter ward hundertsiebenundvierzig Jahre.
And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the length of his life was 147 years.
Da nun die Zeit herbeikam, dass Israel sterben sollte, rief er seinen Sohn Joseph und sprach zu ihm: Habe ich Gnade vor dir gefunden, so lege deine Hand unter meine Hüfte, dass du die Liebe und Treue an mir tust und begrabest mich nicht in Ägypten;
When the time drew near for Israel to die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh and promise to show me kindness and faithfulness. Do not bury me in Egypt,
sondern ich will liegen bei meinen Vätern, und du sollst mich aus Ägypten führen und in ihrem Begräbnis begraben. Er sprach: Ich will tun, wie du gesagt hast.
but when I lie down with my fathers, carry me out of Egypt and bury me with them.” Joseph answered, “I will do as you have requested.”
Er aber sprach: So schwöre mir. Und er schwur ihm. Da neigte sich Israel zu Häupten des Bettes.
“Swear to me,” Jacob said. So Joseph swore to him, and Israel bowed in worship at the head of his bed (note: Hebrew; LXX Israel worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff; see Hebrews 11:21.).
