Da das alles war ausgerichtet, traten zu mir die Obersten und sprachen: Das Volk Israel und die Priester und Leviten sind nicht abgesondert von den Völkern in den Ländern nach ihren Greueln, nämlich die Kanaaniter, Hethiter, Pheresiter, Jebusiter, Ammoniter, Moabiter, Ägypter und Amoriter;
After these things had been accomplished, the leaders approached me and said, “The people of Israel, including the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the surrounding peoples whose abominations are like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.
denn sie haben derselben Töchter genommen sich und ihren Söhnen und den heiligen Samen gemein gemacht mit den Völkern in den Ländern. Und die Hand der Obersten und Ratsherren war die vornehmste in dieser Missetat.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
Da ich solches hörte, zerriss ich mein Kleid und meinen Rock und raufte mein Haupthaar und Bart aus und saß bestürzt.
When I heard this report, I tore my tunic and cloak, pulled out some hair from my head and beard, and sat down in horror.
Und es versammelten sich zu mir alle, die des HErrn Wort, des Gottes Israels, fürchteten, um der Vergreifung willen derer, die gefangen gewesen waren; und ich saß bestürzt bis an das Abendopfer.
Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of the unfaithfulness of the exiles, while I sat there in horror until the evening offering.
Und um das Abendopfer stand ich auf von meinem Elend und zerriss mein Kleid und meinen Rock und fiel auf meine Kniee und breitete meine Hände aus zu dem HErrn, meinem Gott,
At the evening offering, I got up from my humiliation with my tunic and cloak torn, and I fell on my knees, spread out my hands to the LORD my God,
und sprach: Mein Gott, ich schäme mich und scheue mich, meine Augen aufzuheben zu dir, mein Gott; denn unsre Missetat ist über unser Haupt gewachsen und unsre Schuld ist groß bis in den Himmel.
and said: “O my God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift up my face to You, my God, because our iniquities are higher than our heads, and our guilt has reached the heavens.
Von der Zeit unsrer Väter an sind wir in großer Schuld gewesen bis auf diesen Tag, und um unsrer Missetat willen sind wir und unsre Könige und Priester gegeben in die Hand der Könige in den Ländern, ins Schwert, ins Gefängnis in Raub und in Scham des Angesichts, wie es heutigestages geht.
From the days of our fathers to this day, our guilt has been great. Because of our iniquities, we and our kings and priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the earth and subjected to the sword and to captivity, to pillage and humiliation, as we are this day.
Nun aber ist einen kleinen Augenblick Gnade von dem HErrn, unsrem Gott, geschehen, dass uns noch Entronnene übriggelassen sind, dass er uns gebe einen Nagel an seiner heiligen Stätte, dass unser Gott unsre Augen erleuchte und gebe uns ein wenig Leben, da wir Knechte sind.
But now, for a brief moment, grace has come from the LORD our God to preserve for us a remnant and to give us a stake (note: Or nail or foothold) in His holy place. Even in our bondage, our God has given us new life and light to our eyes.
Denn wir sind Knechte, und unser Gott hat uns nicht verlassen, ob wir Knechte sind, und hat Barmherzigkeit zu uns geneigt vor den Königen in Persien, dass sie uns das Leben gelassen haben und erhöht das Haus unsres Gottes und aufgerichtet seine Verstörung und uns gegeben einen Zaun in Juda und Jerusalem.
Though we are slaves, our God has not forsaken us in our bondage, but He has extended to us grace in the sight of the kings of Persia, giving us new life to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins, and giving us a wall of protection in Judah and Jerusalem.
Nun, was sollen wir sagen, unser Gott, nach diesem, dass wir deine Gebote verlassen haben,
And now, our God, what can we say after this? For we have forsaken the commandments
die du durch deine Knechte, die Propheten, geboten hast und gesagt: Das Land, darein ihr kommt, es zu erben, ist ein unreines Land durch die Unreinigkeit der Völker in den Ländern in ihren Greueln, womit sie es an allen Enden voll Unreinigkeit gemacht haben.
that You gave through Your servants the prophets, saying: ‘The land that you are entering to possess is a land polluted by the impurity of its peoples and the abominations with which they have filled it from end to end.
So sollt ihr nun eure Töchter nicht geben ihren Söhnen, und ihre Töchter sollt ihr euren Söhnen nicht nehmen; und sucht nicht ihren Frieden noch ihr Gutes ewiglich, auf dass ihr mächtig werdet und esset das Gute im Lande und vererbt es auf eure Kinder ewiglich.
Now, therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Never seek their peace or prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, leaving it as an inheritance to your sons forever.’
Und nach dem allem, was über uns gekommen ist um unsrer bösen Werke großer Schuld willen, hast du, unser Gott, unsre Missetat verschont und hast uns eine Errettung gegeben, wie es da steht.
After all that has come upon us because of our evil deeds and our great guilt (though You, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserve and have given us such a remnant as this),
Sollten wir wiederum deine Gebote lassen fahren, dass wir uns mit den Völkern dieser Greuel befreundeten? Wirst du nicht über uns zürnen, bis dass es ganz aus sei, dass nichts Übriges noch keine Errettung sei?
shall we again break Your commandments and intermarry with the peoples who commit these abominations? Would You not become so angry with us as to wipe us out, leaving no remnant or survivor?
HErr, Gott Israels, du bist gerecht; denn wir sind übriggeblieben als Errettete, wie es heute steht. Siehe, wir sind vor dir in unsrer Schuld; denn um deswillen ist nicht zu bestehen vor dir.
O LORD, God of Israel, You are righteous! For we remain this day as a remnant. Here we are before You in our guilt, though because of it no one can stand before You.”
