Jewish Publication Society 1917 · Berean Standard Bible
And the name of the place was called Massah (note: That is, Trying.), and Meribah (note: That is Strife.), because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tried the LORD, saying: ‘Is the LORD among us, or not?’
He named the place Massah (note: Massah means testing.) and Meribah (note: Meribah means quarreling.) because the Israelites quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”
