5:1

Moïse convoqua tout Israël et leur dit : « Ecoute, Israël, les lois et les ordonnances que je vous fais entendre aujourd'hui ; apprenez-les et mettez les soigneusement en pratique.

Then Moses summoned all Israel and said : Hear, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances that I declare in your hearing this day. Learn them and observe them carefully.

5:2

Yahweh, notre Dieu, a conclu avec nous une alliance en Horeb.

The LORD our God made a covenant with us .

5:3

Ce n'est point avec nos pères que Yahweh a conclu cette alliance, c'est avec nous, qui sommes ici aujourd'hui tous vivants.

He did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with all of us who are alive here today.

5:4

Yahweh vous parla face à face sur la montagne, du milieu du feu,

The LORD spoke with you face to face out of the fire on the mountain.

5:5

— Je me tenais alors entre Yahweh et vous, pour rapporter sa parole ; car vous aviez peur du feu, et vous ne montâtes point sur la montagne. — Il dit :

At that time I was standing between the LORD and you to declare to you the word of the LORD, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. And He said:

5:6

“Je suis Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui t'ai fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, de la maison de servitude.

“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

5:7

Tu n'auras point d'autres dieux devant ma face.

You shall have no other gods before .

5:8

Tu ne te feras point d'image taillée, ni aucune figure de ce qui est en haut dans le ciel, ou de ce qui est en bas sur la terre, ou de ce qui est dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre.

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.

5:9

Tu ne te prosterneras point devant eux et ne les serviras point ; car moi, Yahweh, ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux, punissant l'iniquité des pères sur les enfants, sur la troisième et sur la quatrième génération, pour ceux qui me haïssent,

You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

5:10

et faisant miséricorde jusqu'à mille générations, pour ceux qui m'aiment et qui gardent mes commandements.

but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.

5:11

Tu ne prendras point le nom de Yahweh, ton Dieu en vain ; car Yahweh ne laissera pas impuni celui qui prendra son nom en vain.

You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.

5:12

Observe le jour du sabbat, pour le sanctifier, comme te l'a ordonné Yahweh, ton Dieu.

Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you.

5:13

Pendant six jours tu travailleras et tu feras tout ton ouvrage.

Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

5:14

Mais le septième jour est un sabbat consacré à Yahweh, ton Dieu : tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bœuf, ni ton âne, ni aucune de tes bêtes, ni l'étranger qui est dans tes portes, afin que ton serviteur et ta servante se reposent comme toi.

but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox or donkey or any of your livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest as you do.

5:15

Tu te souviendras que tu as été esclave au pays d'Egypte, et que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'en a fait sortir d'une main forte et d'un bras étendu : c'est pourquoi Yahweh, ton Dieu, t'a ordonné d'observer le jour du sabbat.

Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. That is why the LORD your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

5:16

Honore ton père et ta mère, comme Yahweh, ton Dieu te l'a ordonné, afin que tes jours soient prolongés et que tu sois heureux dans le pays que Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donne.

Honor r father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

5:17

Tu ne tueras point. Tu ne commettras point d'adultère. Tu ne déroberas point. Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.

You shall not .

5:18

Tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain. Tu ne désireras point la maison de ton prochain, ni son champ, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni rien de ce qui appartient à ton prochain. »

You shall not .

5:19

Telles sont les paroles que Yahweh adressa à toute votre assemblée, sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, de la nuée et de l'obscurité, d'une voix forte ; et il n'ajouta rien. Il les écrivit sur deux tables de pierre, qu'il me donna.

You shall not .

5:20

Lorsque vous eûtes entendu la voix du milieu des ténèbres, la montagne étant toute en feu, vous vous approchâtes de moi, tous vos chefs de tribus et vos anciens,

You shall not bear false witness .

5:21

et vous dîtes : « Voici que Yahweh, notre Dieu, nous a montré sa gloire et sa grandeur, et nous avons entendu sa voix du milieu du feu ; aujourd'hui nous avons vu Dieu parler à l'homme et l'homme rester vivant.

You shall not your neighbor’s wife. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house or field, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

5:22

Et maintenant pourquoi mourrions-nous ? Car ce grand feu nous dévorera ; si nous entendons encore la voix de Yahweh, notre Dieu, nous mourrons.

The LORD spoke these commandments in a loud voice to your whole assembly out of the fire, the cloud, and the deep darkness on the mountain; He added nothing more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

5:23

Car parmi toute chair, quel est celui qui a entendu, comme nous, la voix du Dieu vivant parlant du milieu du feu, et qui soit demeuré en vie ?

And when you heard the voice out of the darkness while the mountain was blazing with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me,

5:24

Toi, approche-toi, et écoute tout ce que dira Yahweh, notre Dieu, et tu nous rapporteras tout ce que t'aura dit Yahweh, notre Dieu : nous l'écouterons et nous le ferons. »

and you said, “Behold, the LORD our God has shown us His glory and greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him.

5:25

Yahweh entendit vos paroles tandis que vous me parliez, et Yahweh me dit : « J'ai entendu les paroles que ce peuple t'a adressées : tout ce qu'ils ont dit est bien.

But now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us, and we will die, if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.

5:26

Oh ! S'ils avaient toujours ce même cœur pour me craindre et pour observer mes commandements, afin qu'ils soient heureux à jamais, eux et leurs enfants !

For who of all flesh has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire, as we have, and survived?

5:27

Va, dis-leur : Retournez dans vos tentes.

Go near and listen to all that the LORD our God says. Then you can tell us everything the LORD our God tells you; we will listen and obey.”

5:28

Mais toi, reste ici avec moi, et je te dirai tous les commandements, les lois et les ordonnances que tu leur enseigneras, pour qu'ils les mettent en pratique dans le pays que je leur donne en possession.

And the LORD heard the words you spoke to me, and He said to me, “I have heard the words that these people have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken.

5:29

Vous aurez soin de faire ce que Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous a commandé ; vous ne vous en détournerez ni à droite ni à gauche,

If only they had such a heart to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it might be well with them and with their children forever.

5:30

mais vous suivrez en tout la voie que Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous a prescrite, afin que vous viviez et que vous soyez heureux, et que vous prolongiez vos jours dans le pays que vous posséderez.” »

Go and tell them: ‘Return to your tents.’
