Alles, was ich euch gebiete, das sollt ihr halten, dass ihr darnach tut. Ihr sollt nichts dazutun noch davontun.
If a prophet or dreamer of dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you,
Wenn ein Prophet oder Träumer unter euch wird aufstehen und gibt dir ein Zeichen oder Wunder,
and if the sign or wonder he has spoken to you comes about, but he says, “Let us follow other gods (which you have not known) and let us worship them,”
und das Zeichen oder Wunder kommt, davon er dir gesagt hat, und er spricht: Lass uns andern Göttern folgen, die ihr nicht kennt, und ihnen dienen;
you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. For the LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
so sollst du nicht gehorchen den Worten des Propheten oder Träumers; denn der HErr, euer Gott, versucht euch, dass er erfahre, ob ihr ihn von ganzem Herzen liebhabt.
You are to follow the LORD your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and listen to His voice; serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Denn ihr sollt dem HErrn, eurem Gott, folgen und ihn fürchten und seine Gebote halten und seiner Stimme gehorchen und ihm dienen und ihm anhangen.
Such a prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way in which the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. So you must purge the evil from among you (note: Cited in 1 Corinthians 5:13).
Der Prophet aber oder der Träumer soll sterben, darum dass er euch von dem HErrn, eurem Gott, der euch aus Ägyptenland geführt und dich von dem Diensthause erlöst hat, abzufallen gelehrt und dich aus dem Wege verführt hat, den der HErr, dein Gott, geboten hat, darin zu wandeln –, auf dass du das Böse von dir tust.
If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace (note: Hebrew the wife of your bosom), or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (which neither you nor your fathers have known,
Wenn dich dein Bruder, deiner Mutter Sohn, oder dein Sohn oder deine Tochter oder das Weib in deinen Armen oder dein Freund, der dir ist wie dein Herz, heimlich überreden würde und sagen: Lass uns gehen und andern Göttern dienen! – die du nicht kennst noch deine Väter,
the gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, whether from one end of the earth or the other),
von den Göttern der Völker, die um euch her sind, sie seien dir nahe oder ferne, von einem Ende der Erde bis an das andere,
you must not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity, and do not spare him or shield him.
so willige nicht darein und gehorche ihm nicht. Auch soll dein Auge seiner nicht schonen, und sollst dich seiner nicht erbarmen noch ihn verbergen,
Instead, you must surely kill him. Your hand must be the first against him to put him to death, and then the hands of all the people.
sondern sollst ihn erwürgen. Deine Hand soll die erste über ihm sein, dass man ihn töte, und darnach die Hand des ganzen Volks.
Stone him to death for trying to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Man soll ihn zu Tode steinigen, denn er hat dich wollen verführen von dem HErrn, deinem Gott, der dich aus Ägyptenland, aus dem Diensthaus, geführt hat,
Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such a wicked thing among you.
auf dass ganz Israel höre und fürchte sich und man nicht mehr solch Übel vornehme unter euch.
If, regarding one of the cities the LORD your God is giving you to inhabit, you hear it said
Wenn du hörst von irgend einer Stadt, die dir der HErr, dein Gott, gegeben hat, darin zu wohnen, dass man sagt:
that wicked men have arisen from among you and have led the people of their city astray, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods” (which you have not known),
Es sind etliche heillose Leute ausgegangen unter dir und haben die Bürger ihrer Stadt verführt und gesagt: Lasst uns gehen und andern Göttern dienen! – die ihr nicht kennt –
then you must inquire, investigate, and interrogate thoroughly. And if it is established with certainty that this abomination has been committed among you,
so sollst du sie fleißig suchen, forschen und fragen. Und so sich findet die Wahrheit, dass es gewiss also ist, dass der Greuel unter euch geschehen ist,
you must surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword. Devote to destruction (note: Forms of the Hebrew cherem refer to the giving over of things or persons to the LORD, either by destroying them or by giving them as an offering; similarly in verse 17.) all its people and livestock.
so sollst du die Bürger derselben Stadt schlagen mit des Schwertes Schärfe und sie verbannen mit allem, was darin ist, und ihr Vieh mit der Schärfe des Schwerts.
And you are to gather all its plunder in the middle of the public square, and completely burn the city and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. The city must remain a mound of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.
Und allen ihren Raub sollst du sammeln mitten auf die Gasse und mit Feuer verbrennen, die Stadt und allen ihren Raub miteinander, dem HErrn, deinem Gott, dass sie auf einem Haufen liege ewiglich und nie wieder gebaut werde.
Nothing devoted to destruction shall cling to your hands, so that the LORD will turn from His fierce anger, grant you mercy, show you compassion, and multiply you as He swore to your fathers,
Und lass nichts von dem Bann an deiner Hand hangen, auf dass der HErr von dem Grimm seines Zorns abgewendet werde und gebe dir Barmherzigkeit und erbarme sich deiner und mehre dich, wie er den Vätern geschworen hat;
because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all His commandments I am giving you today and doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD your God.
darum dass du der Stimme des HErrn, deines Gottes, gehorcht hast, zu halten alle seine Gebote, die ich dir heute gebiete, dass du tust, was recht ist vor den Augen des HErrn, deines Gottes.
