après l’avoir hissée, on se servit des moyens de secours pour ceindre le navire, et, dans la crainte de tomber sur la Syrte, on abaissa les voiles. C’est ainsi qu’on se laissa emporter par le vent.
After hoisting it up, the crew used ropes to undergird the ship. And fearing that they would run aground on the sandbars of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor (note: Or the sails) and were driven along.
