Denn Paulus hatte beschlossen, an Ephesus vorüberzuschiffen, dass er nicht müsste in Asien Zeit zubringen; denn er eilte, auf den Pfingsttag zu Jerusalem zu sein, so es ihm möglich wäre.
Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, because he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost (note: That is, Shavuot, the late spring feast of pilgrimage to Jerusalem; it is also known as the Feast of Harvest (see Exodus 23:16) or the Feast of Weeks (see Exodus 34:22).).
