Paul se rendit ensuite à Derbé, puis à Lystres. Il y avait là un disciple nommé Timothée, fils d'une juive chrétienne et d'un père grec.
Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where he found a disciple named Timothy, the son of a believing Jewish woman and a Greek father.
Ses frères de Lystres et d'Iconium rendaient de lui un bon témoignage.
The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
Paul voulut l'emmener avec lui, et l'ayant pris, il le circoncit, à cause des Juifs qui étaient dans ces contrées ; car tous savaient que son père était grec.
Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, so he took him and circumcised him on account of the Jews in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
En passant par les villes, ils enseignaient aux fidèles à observer les décisions des Apôtres et des Anciens de Jérusalem.
As they went from town to town, they delivered the decisions handed down by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.
Et les Eglises se fortifiaient dans la foi et croissaient de jour en jour.
So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.

After the Holy Spirit had prevented them from speaking the word in the province of Asia, they traveled through the region of Phrygia and Galatia.
ils arrivèrent aux confins de la Mysie, et ils se disposaient à entrer en Bithynie ; mais l'Esprit de Jésus ne le leur permit pas.
And when they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not permit them.
Alors, ayant traversé rapidement la Mysie, ils descendirent à Troas.
So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.
Pendant la nuit, Paul eut une vision : un Macédonien se présenta devant lui, et lui fit cette prière : " Passe en Macédoine et viens à notre secours ! "
During the night, Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”
Après cette vision de Paul, nous cherchâmes aussitôt à nous rendre en Macédoine, certains que Dieu nous appelait à y annoncer la bonne nouvelle.
As soon as Paul had seen the vision, we got ready to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
Ayant donc pris la mer à Troas, nous fîmes voile droit vers Samothrace, et le lendemain nous débarquâmes à Néapolis.
We sailed from Troas straight to Samothrace, and the following day on to Neapolis.
De là nous allâmes à Philippes, qui est la première ville de cette partie de la Macédoine et une colonie. Nous demeurâmes quelques jours dans cette ville.
From there we went to the Roman colony of Philippi, the leading city of that district of Macedonia (note: Literally we went to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia—a colony). And we stayed there several days.
Le jour du sabbat, nous nous rendîmes hors de la porte, sur le bord d'une rivière, où nous pensions qu'était le lieu de la prière. Nous étant assis, nous parlâmes aux femmes qui s'y étaient assemblées.
On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate along the river, where it was customary to find a place of prayer. After sitting down, we spoke to the women who had gathered there.
Or dans l'auditoire était une femme nommée Lydie : c'était une marchande de pourpre, de la ville de Thyatire, craignant Dieu, et le Seigneur lui ouvrit le cœur pour qu'elle fût attentive à ce que disait Paul.
Among those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.
Quand elle eut reçu le baptême, elle et sa famille, elle nous adressa cette prière : " Si vous avez jugé que j'ai foi au Seigneur, entrez dans ma maison et demeurez-y. " Et elle nous contraignit par ses instances.
And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
Un jour que nous allions à la prière, nous rencontrâmes une jeune esclave qui avait un esprit Python et procurait un grand profit à ses maîtres par ses divinations.
One day as we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl with a spirit of divination (note: Greek a spirit of Python; that is, a spirit of divination named after the mythical serpent slain by Apollo), who earned a large income for her masters by fortune-telling.
Elle se mit à nous suivre, Paul et nous, en criant : " Ces hommes sont les serviteurs du Dieu très haut ; ils vous annoncent la voie du salut. "
This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation!”
Elle fit ainsi pendant plusieurs jours. Comme Paul en éprouvait de la peine, il se retourna et dit à l'esprit : " Je te commande, au nom de Jésus-Christ, de sortir de cette fille. " Et il sortit à l'heure même.
She continued this for many days. Eventually Paul grew so aggravated that he turned and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” And the spirit left her at that very moment.
Les maîtres de la jeune fille, voyant s'évanouir l'espoir de leur gain, se saisirent de Paul et de Silas et les traînèrent à l'agora devant les magistrats.
When the girl’s owners saw that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them before the authorities in the marketplace.
Et les ayant amenés aux stratèges, ils dirent : " Ces hommes troublent notre ville. Ce sont des Juifs ;
They brought them to the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews and are throwing our city into turmoil
ils prêchent des usages qu'il ne nous est pas permis, à nous, Romains, de recevoir ni de suivre. "
by promoting customs that are unlawful for us Romans to adopt or practice.”
En même temps la foule se souleva contre eux, et les stratèges ayant fait arracher leurs vêtements, ordonnèrent qu'on les battît de verges.
The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered that they be stripped and beaten with rods.
Après qu'on les eut chargés de coups, ils les firent mettre en prison, en recommandant au geôlier de les garder sûrement.
And after striking them with many blows, they threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to guard them securely.
Le geôlier ayant reçu cet ordre, les mit dans un des cachots intérieurs, et engagea leurs pieds dans des ceps.
On receiving this order, he placed them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
Vers le milieu de la nuit, Paul et Silas chantaient les louanges de Dieu, et les prisonniers les entendaient.
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
Tout à coup il se fit un tremblement de terre si violent que les fondements de la prison en furent ébranlés ; au même instant, toutes les portes s'ouvrirent et les liens de tous les prisonniers tombèrent.
Suddenly a strong earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. At once all the doors flew open and everyone’s chains came loose.
Le geôlier s'étant éveillé et voyant les portes de la prison ouvertes, tira son épée, et il allait se tuer, pensant que les prisonniers avaient pris la fuite.
When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, presuming that the prisoners had escaped.
Mais Paul cria d'une voix forte : " Ne te fais point de mal, nous sommes tous ici. "
But Paul called out in a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself! We are all here!”
Alors Le geôlier, ayant demandé de la lumière, entra précipitamment et se jeta tout tremblant aux pieds de Paul et de Silas ; puis
Calling for lights, the jailer rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.
il les fit sortir et dit : " Seigneurs, que faut-il que je fasse pour être sauvé ? "
Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
Ils répondirent : " Crois au Seigneur Jésus et tu seras sauvé, toi et ta famille. "
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Et ils lui annoncèrent la parole de Dieu, ainsi qu'à tous ceux qui étaient dans la maison.
Then Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to him and to everyone in his house.
Les prenant avec lui à cette heure de la nuit, il lava leurs plaies, et aussitôt après il fut baptisé, lui et tous les siens.
At that hour of the night, the jailer took them and washed their wounds. And without delay, he and all his household were baptized.
Ensuite il les fit monter dans sa maison et leur servit à manger, se réjouissant avec toute sa famille d'avoir cru en Dieu.
Then he brought them into his home and set a meal before them. So he and all his household rejoiced that they had come to believe in God.
Quand il fit jour, les stratèges envoyèrent les licteurs qui dirent : " Mets ces hommes en liberté. "
When daylight came, the magistrates sent their officers with the order: “Release those men.”
Le geôlier annonça la chose à Paul : " Les stratèges ont envoyé l'ordre de vous relâcher ; sortez donc maintenant et allez en paix. "
The jailer informed Paul: “The magistrates have sent orders to release you. Now you may go on your way in peace.”
Mais Paul dit aux licteurs : " Après nous avoir publiquement battus de verges, sans jugement, nous qui sommes Romains, on nous a jetés en prison, et maintenant on nous fait sortir en secret ! Il n'en sera pas ainsi. Qu'ils viennent eux-mêmes
But Paul said to the officers, “They beat us publicly without a trial and threw us into prison, even though we are Roman citizens. And now do they want to send us away secretly? Absolutely not! Let them come themselves and escort us out!”

So the officers relayed this message to the magistrates, who were alarmed to hear that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens.

They came to appease them and led them out, requesting that they leave the city.
Au sortir de la prison, Paul et Silas entrèrent chez Lydie, et après avoir vu et exhorté les frères, ils partirent.
After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house to see the brothers and encourage them. Then they left the city.
