Weiter, liebe Brüder, betet für uns, dass das Wort des Herrn laufe und gepriesen werde wie bei euch,
Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be held in honor, just as it was with you.
und dass wir erlöst werden von den unverständigen und argen Menschen. Denn der Glaube ist nicht jedermanns Ding.
And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not everyone holds to the faith.
Aber der Herr ist treu; der wird euch stärken und bewahren vor dem Argen.
But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.
Wir versehen uns aber zu euch in dem Herrn, dass ihr tut und tun werdet, was wir euch gebieten.
And we have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.
Der Herr aber richte eure Herzen zu der Liebe Gottes und zu der Geduld Christi.
May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
Wir gebieten euch aber, liebe Brüder, in dem Namen unsres Herrn Jesu Christi, dass ihr euch entzieht von jedem Bruder, der da unordentlich wandelt und nicht nach der Satzung, die er von uns empfangen hat.
Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who leads an undisciplined life that is not in keeping with the tradition you received (note: Or they received) from us.
Denn ihr wisset, wie ihr uns sollt nachfolgen. Denn wir sind nicht unordentlich unter euch gewesen,
For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not undisciplined among you,
haben auch nicht umsonst das Brot genommen von jemand; sondern mit Arbeit und Mühe Tag und Nacht haben wir gewirkt, dass wir nicht jemand unter euch beschwerlich wären.
nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
Nicht darum, dass wir es nicht Macht haben, sondern dass wir uns selbst zum Vorbilde euch gäben, uns nachzufolgen.
Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to offer ourselves as an example for you to imitate.
Und da wir bei euch waren, geboten wir euch solches, dass, so jemand nicht will arbeiten, der soll auch nicht essen.
For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”
Denn wir hören, dass etliche unter euch wandeln unordentlich und arbeiten nichts, sondern treiben Vorwitz.
For we hear that some of you are leading undisciplined lives, accomplishing nothing, but being busybodies.
Solchen aber gebieten wir und ermahnen sie durch unsren Herrn Jesus Christus, dass sie mit stillem Wesen arbeiten und ihr eigen Brot essen.
We command and urge such people by our Lord Jesus Christ to begin working quietly to earn their own living.
Ihr aber, liebe Brüder, werdet nicht verdrossen Gutes zu tun.
But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary in well-doing.
So aber jemand nicht gehorsam ist unsrem Wort, den zeigt an durch einen Brief, und habt nichts mit ihm zu schaffen, auf dass er schamrot werde;
Take note of anyone who does not obey the instructions we have given in this letter. Do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.
doch haltet ihn nicht als einen Feind, sondern vermahnet ihn als einen Bruder.
Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
Er aber, der Herr des Friedens, gebe euch Frieden allenthalben und auf allerlei Weise. Der Herr sei mit euch allen!
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

This greeting is in my own hand—Paul. This is my mark in every letter; it is the way I write.
