And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house (note: Or, because he had said even the blind and the lame, He shall not come into the house).
On that day he said, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites must use the water shaft to reach the lame and blind who are despised by David (note: Or who are enemies of David).” That is why it is said, “The blind and the lame will never enter the palace.”
