καὶ συνήντησεν Ἀβεσσαλὼμ ἐνώπιον τῶν παίδων Δαυείδ· καὶ Ἀβεσσαλὼμ ἐπιβεβηκὼς ἐπὶ τοῦ ἡμιόνου αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ ἡμίονος ὑπὸ τὸ δάσος τῆς δρυὸς τῆς μεγάλης, καὶ ἐκρεμάσθη ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ δρυί· καὶ ἐκρεμάσθη ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τῆς γῆς, καὶ ὁ ἡμίονος ὑποκάτω αὐτοῦ παρῆλθεν.
Now Absalom was riding on his mule when he met the servants of David, and as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak (note: Or large terebinth or very great tree; similarly in verses 10 and 14), Absalom’s head was caught fast in the tree. The mule under him kept going, so that he was suspended in midair.
