Parallel

2 Samuel 18:3

King James Version (1769 Blayney revision, with Apocrypha) · Berean Standard Bible

But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us (note: Heb. set their heart on us); neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us (note: Heb. as ten thousand of us): therefore now it is better that thou succour (note: Heb. be to succour) us out of the city.
But the people pleaded, “You must not go out! For if we have to flee, they will not care about us. Even if half of us die, they will not care. But you are worth ten thousand of us (note: Two Hebrew manuscripts, some LXX manuscripts, and Vulgate; most Hebrew manuscripts care; for now there are ten thousand like us). It is better now if you support us from the city.”
