Δαυεὶδ παρπῆλθεν βραχύ τι ἀπὸ τῆς Ῥοώς, καὶ Σειβὰ τὸ παιδάριον Μεμφόσθε εἰς ἀπαντὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ζεῦγος ὄνων ἐπισεσαγμένων, καὶ ἐπ’ αὐτοῖς διακόσιοι ἄρτοι καὶ ἑκατὸν σταθίδες καὶ ἑκατὸν φοίνικες καὶ νέβελ οἴνου.
When David had gone a little beyond the summit, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth was there to meet him. He had a pair of saddled donkeys loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred clusters of raisins, a hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine.
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεῦς Σειβά Τί ταῦτά σοι; καὶ εἶπεν Σειβά Τὰ ὑποζύγια τῇ οἰκίᾳ τοῦ βασιλέως τοῦ ἐπικαθῆσθαι, καὶ οἱ ἄρτοι καὶ οἱ φοίνικες εἰς βρῶσιν τοῖς παιδαρέοις, καὶ ὁ οἶνος πιεῖν τοῖς ἐκλελυμένοις ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ.
“Why do you have these?” asked the king. Ziba replied, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat, and the wine is to refresh those who become exhausted in the wilderness.”
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς Καὶ ποῦ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ κυρίου σου; καὶ εἶπεν Σειβὰ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Ἰδοὺ κάθηται ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ, ὅτι εἶπεν Σήμερον ἐπιστρέψουσίν μοι οἶκος Ἰσραὴλ τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ πατρός μου.
“Where is your master’s grandson?” asked the king. And Ziba answered, “Indeed, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he has said, ‘Today, the house of Israel will restore to me the kingdom of my grandfather.’”
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Σειβά Ἰδοὺ σοὶ πάντα ὅσα ἐστὶν Μεμφιβόσθε. καὶ εἶπεν Σειβά Προσκυνήσας εὕροιμι χάριν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου, κύριέ μου βισιλεῦ.
So the king said to Ziba, “All that belongs to Mephibosheth is now yours!” “I humbly bow before you,” said Ziba. “May I find favor in your eyes, my lord the king!”
Καὶ ἦλθεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαυεὶδ ἓως Βουρείμ· Βουρείμ· καὶ ἰδοῦ ἐκεῖθεν ἀνὴρ ἐξεορεύετο ἐκ συγγενείας οἲκου Σαούλ, καὶ ὂνομα αὐτῷ Σεμεεὶ νἱὸς Γηρά· ἐξῆθεν ἐκπορευόμενος καὶ καταρώμενος
As King David approached Bahurim, a man from the family of the house of Saul was just coming out. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and as he approached, he kept yelling out curses.
καὶ λιφάζων ἐν λίθοις τὸν Δαυεὶδ καὶ πάντας τοὺς παῖδας τοῦ Βασιλέως Δαυείδ· καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἦν καὶ πάντες οἱ δυντοὶ ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων τοῦ βασιλέως.
He threw stones at David and at all the servants of the king, though the troops and all the mighty men were on David’s right and left.
καὶ οὓτως ἒλεγεν Σεμεεὶ ἐν τῷ καταρᾶσθαι αὐτόν Ἒξελθε ἒξελθε, ἀνὴρ αἱμάτων καὶ ἀνὴρ ὁ παράνομος.
And as he yelled curses, Shimei said, “Get out, get out, you worthless man of bloodshed!
ἐπέστρεψεν ἐπὶ σὲ Κύριος πάντα τὰ αἳματα τοῦ οἲκου Σαούλ, ὃτι ἐβαστερεψεν ἀντ᾿ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἒδωκεν Κύρις τὴν βασιλείαν ἐν χειρὶ Ἀβεσσαλὼμ τοῦ υἱοῦ σου· καὶ ἰδοὺ σὲ ἐν τῇ κακίᾳ σου, ὃτι ἀνὴρ αἱμάτων σύ.
The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned, and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. See, you have come to ruin because you are a man of bloodshed!”
καὶ εἶπεν Ἀβειςὰ υἱὸς Σαρουίας πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Ἳνα τί καταρᾶται ὁ κύων ὁ τεθνηκὼς οὗτος τὸν κύριόν μου τὸν βασιλέα; Διαβήσομαι δὴ καὶ ἀφελῶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ.
Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head!”
καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς Τί ἐμοὶ καὶ ὑμῖν, υἱοὶ Σαρουίας; Καὶ ἂφετε αὐτὸν καὶ οὓτως καταράσθω, ὃτι Κύριος εἶπεν Σαρουίας; καταρᾶσθαι τὸν Δαυείδ· καὶ τίς ἐρεὶ Ὡς τί ἐποίησας οὓτως; οὓτως;
But the king replied, “What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? If he curses me because the LORD told him, ‘Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why did you do this?’”
καὶ εἶπεν Δαυεὶδ πρὸς Ἀβειςὰ καὶ πρὸς πάντας τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ Ἰδοὺ ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἐξελθὼν ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας μου ζητεῖ τὴν ψυχήν μου, καὶ προςέτι νῦν ὀ υἱὸς τοῦ Ἰεμεινεί· ἂφετε αὐτὸν καταρᾶσθαι, ὃτι εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριος·
Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, my own son, my own flesh and blood, seeks my life. How much more, then, this Benjamite! Leave him alone and let him curse me, for the LORD has told him so.
εἲ τως ἲδοι Κύριος ἐν τῇ ταπεινώσει μου, καὶ ἐπῖστρεψει μοι ἀγαθὰ ἀντὶ τῆς καάρας αὐτοῦ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ.
Perhaps the LORD will see my affliction and repay me with good for the cursing I receive today.”
καὶ ἐπορεύθη Δαυεὶδ καὶ οἱ ἂνδρες αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ· καὶ Σεμεεὶ ἐπορεύετο ἐκ πέρας τοῦ ὂρους ἐχόμενα αὐτοῦ πορευόμενος καὶ καταπώμενος καὶ λιθάζων ἐν λίθοις ἐκ πλαγίων αὐτοῦ καὶ τῷ χοὶ πάσσων.
So David and his men proceeded along the road as Shimei went along the ridge of the hill opposite him. As Shimei went, he yelled curses, threw stones, and flung dust at David.
καὶ ἦλθεν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς αὐτοὺ ἐκλελυμένοι, καὶ ἀνέψυξαν ἐκεῖ.
Finally, the king and all the people with him arrived (note: Some LXX manuscripts arrived at the Jordan), exhausted. And there he refreshed himself.
καὶ Ἀβεσσαλὼμ καὶ πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ἰσραὴλ εἰσῆλθον εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ Ἀχειτόφελ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ.
Then Absalom and all the men of Israel came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him.
καὶ ἐγενήθη ἡνίκα ἦλθεν χουσεὶ ὁ Ἀρχί, ἑταῖρος Δαυεὶδ πρὸς Ἀβεσσαλώμ, καὶ εἶπεν χουσεὶ πρὸς Ἀβεσσαλώμ Ζήτω ὁ βασιλεύς.
And David’s friend Hushai the Archite went to Absalom and said to him, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”
καὶ εἶπεν Ἀβεσσαλὼμ πρὸς Χουσεί Τοῦτο τὸ ἒλεός σου μετὰ τοῦ ἑταίρου σου; ἳνα τί οὐκ ἀπῆλθες μετὰ τοῦ ἑταίρου σου;
“Is this the loyalty you show your friend?” Absalom replied. “Why did you not go with your friend?”
καὶ εἶπεν Χουσεὶ πρὸς Ἀβεσσαλώμ Οὐχί, ἀλλὰ κατόπισθεν οὗ ἐξελέξατο Κύριος καὶ ὁ λαὸς οὖτος καὶ πᾶς ἀνὴρ Ἰσραήλ, αὐτῷ ἔσομαι καὶ μετ’αὐτοῦ καθήσομαι.
“Not at all,” Hushai answered. “For the one chosen by the LORD, by this people, and by all the men of Israel—his I will be, and with him I will remain.
καὶ τὸ δεύτερον τίνι ἐγὼ δουλεύσω; οὐχὶ ἐνώπιον τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ; καθάπερ ἐδούλεθσα ἐνώπιον τοῦ πατρός σου, οὕτως ἔσομαι ἐνώπιον σοῦ.
Furthermore, whom should I serve if not his son? As I served in your father’s presence, so also I will serve in yours.”
καὶ εἶπεν Ἀβεσσαλὼμ πρὸς Ἀχειτόφελ Φέρετε ἑαυτοῖς βουλὴν τί ποίησωμεν.
Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give me counsel. What should we do?”
καὶ εἶπεν Ἀχειτόφελ πρὸς Ἀβεσσαλώμ Εἴσελθε πρὸς τὰς παλλακὰς τοῦ πατρός σου ἃς κατέλειπεν Φυλάσσειν τὸν οἶκον,λ καὶ ἀκούσεται πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ ὅτι κατᾐσχυνας τὸν πατέρα σου, καὶ ἐνισχύσουσιν αἱ χεῖρες πάντων τῶν μετὰ σοῦ.
Ahithophel replied, “Sleep with your father’s concubines, whom he has left to take care of the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become a stench to your father, then the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”
καὶ ἔπηξαν τὴν σκηνὴν τῷ Ἀβεσσαλὼμ ἐπὶ τὸ δῶμα, καὶ εἰσὴλθεν Ἀβεσσαλὼμ πρὸς τὰς παλλακὰς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ κατ’ὀφθαλμοὺς παντὸς Ἰσραήλ.
So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he slept with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
καὶ ἡ βουλὴ Ἀχειτόφελ ἣν ἐβουλεύσατο ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταῖς πρώταις ὃν τρόπον ἐπερωτήςῃ ἐν λόγῳ τοῦ θεοῦ. οὕτως πᾶσα ἡ βουλὴ τῷ Ἀχειτόφελ καί γε τῷ Δαυεὶδ καί γε τῷ Ἀβεσσαλώμ. Καὶ εἶπεν Ἀχειτόφελ
Now in those days the advice of Ahithophel was like the consultation of the word of God. Such was the regard that both David and Absalom had for Ahithophel’s advice.
