Τότη εἶπεν Σαλωμῶν Κύριος εἶπεν τοῦ κατασκηνῶσαι ἐν γνόφῳ.
Then Solomon declared: “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud.
καὶ ἐγὼ οἰκοδόμηκα οἶκον τῷ ἀνόματί σου ἅγιόν σοι καὶ ἕτοιμον τοῦ κατασκηνῶσαι εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας.
But I have built You an exalted house, a place for You to dwell forever.”
καὶ ἐπέστρεψεσ ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸ πρόσααοπον αὐτοῦ καὶ εὐλόγησεσ τὴν πᾶσαν ἐκκλησίαν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ πᾶσα ἐκκλησία Ἰσραὴλ παρειστήκει.
And as the whole assembly of Israel stood there, the king turned around and blessed them all
καὶ εἶπεν Εὐλογητὸς Κύριος ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραήλ, ὁς ἐλάλησευ ἑο στόματι αὐτοῦ πρὸς Δαυεὶδ τὸν πατέρα μου καὶ ἐν χερσὶν αὐτοῦ ἐπλήρωσεν λέγων
and said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
Ἀπὸ τῆς ἡμέρας ἧς ἀνήγαγον τὸν λαόν μου ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, οὐκ ἐξελεξάμην ἐν πόλει ἀπὸ πασῶν φυλῶν Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τοῦ εἶναι ὄνομά μου ἐκεῖ, καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεξάμην ἐν ἀνδρὶ τοῦ εἶναι εἰς ἡγούμενον ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ·
‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
καὶ ἐξελεξάμην ἐν Δαυεὶδ τοῦ εἶναι ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ.
But now I have chosen Jerusalem for My Name to be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ καρδίαν Δαυεὶδ τοῦ πατρός μου τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου θεοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος πρὸς Δαυεὶδ πατέρα μου Διότι ἐγένετο ἐπὶ καρδίαν σου τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματί μου, καλῶς ἐγένετο ἐπὶ καρδίαο σου·
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
πλὴν σὺ οὐκ οἰκοδομήσεις τὸν οἶκον, ὅτι ὁ υἱός σου ὸς ἐξελεύσεται ἐκ τῆς ὀσφύος σου, οὗτος οἰκοδομήσει τὸν οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματί μου.
Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it; but your son, your own offspring, will build the house for My Name.’
καὶ ἀνέστησεν Κύριος τὸν λόγον τοῦτον ὃν ἐλάλησεν, καὶ ἐγενήθην ἀντὶ Δαυεὶδ τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ ἐκάθισα ἐπὶ τὸν θρόνον Ἰσραὴλ καθῶς ἐλάλησεν Κύριος, καὶ οἰκοδόμησα τὸν οἶκον τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου θεοῦ Ἰσραήλ,
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
καὶ ἔθηκα ἐκεῖ τὴν κιβωτὸν ἐν ἦ ἐκεῖ διαθήκη Κυρίου ἣν διέθετο τῷ Ἰσραήλ.
And there I have placed the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with the children of Israel.”
Καὶ ἔστη κατέναυτι τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου Κυρίου ἔναντι πάσης ἐκκλησίας Ἰσραήλ, καὶ διεπέτασεν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ·
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
ὅτι ἐποίησεσ Σαλωμὼν βοάσιν χαλκῆν καὶ ἔθηκευ αὐτὴν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς αὐλῆς τοῦ ἱεροῦ, πέντε πηχῶν τὸ μῆκος αὐτῆς καὶ πέντε πήχεων τὸ εὗρος αὐτῆς καὶ τριῶν πήχεων τὸ ὕψος αὐτῆς· καὶ ἔστη ἐπ᾿ αὐτῆς, καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὰ γόνατα ἔναντι πάσης ἐκκλησίας Ἰσραήλ, καὶ διεπέτασεν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν
Now Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high (note: The platform was approximately 7.5 feet in length and width, and 4.5 feet high (2.3 meters in length and width, and 1.4 meters high).) and had placed it in the middle of the courtyard. He stood on it, knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,
καὶ εἶπεν Κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραήλ, οὐκ ἔστιν ὅμοιός σοι θεὸς ἐν οὐρανῷ καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, φυλάσσαων τὴν διαθήκην καὶ τὸ ἥλεος τοῖς παισίν σου τοῖς πορευομένοις ἐναντίον σου ἐν ὅλῃ καρδᾳ.
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
ἐφύλαξας τῷ παιδί σου Δαυεὶδ τῷ πατρί μου ἃ ἐλάλησας αὐτῷ λέγων, καὶ ἐλάλησας ἐν στόματί σου καὶ ἐν χερσίν σου ἐπλήρωσας ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη.
You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.
καὶ νῦν, Κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραήλ, φύλαξον τῷ παιδί σου τῷ Δαυεὶδ ὅ ἐλάλησας αὐτῷ λέγων Οὐκ ἐκλείψει σοι ἀνὴρ ἀπὸ προσώπου καθήμενος ἐπὶ θρόνου Ἰσραήλ, πλὴν ἐὰν φυλάξωσιν οἱ υἱοί σου τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτῶν τοῦ πορεύεσθαι ἐν τῷ ὀνόματὶ μου ὡς ἐπορεύθης ἔναντίον μου.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
καὶ νῦν, Κύριε ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραήλ, πιστωθήτω δὴ τὸ όῆμά σου ὁ ἐλάλησας τῷ παιδί σου τῷ Δαυείδ.
And now, O LORD, God of Israel, please confirm what You promised to Your servant David.
ὄτι εἰ ἀληθῶς κατοικήσει θεὸς μετὰ ἀνθρώπων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς; εἰ ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ὁ οὐρανὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ οὐκ ἀρκέσουσίν σοι, καὶ τίς ὁ οἶκος οὗτος ὃν οἰκοδόμησα;
But will God indeed dwell with man upon the earth? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
καὶ ἐπιβλέψῃ ἐπὶ τὴν προσευχὴν σαιδός σου καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν δέησίν μου, Κύριε ὁ θεός, τοῦ ἐπακοῦσαι τῆς δεήσεως καὶ τῆς προσεὐχῆς ἐναντίον σου σήμερον,
Yet regard the prayer and plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.
τοῦ εἶναι ὀφθαλμούς σου ἀνεῳγμένους ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦτον ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός, εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον ὃν εἶπας ἐπικληθῆναι τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐκεῖ, τοῦ ἀκοῦσαι τῆς προσευχῆς ἧς ὁ παῖς σου προσεύχεται εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον.
May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your Name, so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.
καὶ ἀκούσῃ τῆς δεήσεως τοῦ παιδός σου καὶ λαοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ἄ ἂν προσεύξωνται εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον· καὶ σὺ εἰσακούσῃ ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τῆς κατοικήσεως σου ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ἀκούσῃ καὶ ἵλεως ἔσῃ.
Hear the plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and forgive.
ἐὰν ἁμάρτῃ ἀνὴρ τῷ πλησίον αὐτοῦ καὶ λάβῃ ἐπʼ αὐτὸν ἀρὰν τοῦ ἀρᾶσθαι αὐτόν, καὶ ἔλθῃ καὶ ἀράσηται κατέναντι τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τούτῳ,
When a man sins against his neighbor and is required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
καὶ σὺ εἰσακούσῃ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ποιήσεις, καὶ κρινεῖς τοὺς δούλους σου τοῦ ἀποδοῦναι τῷ ἀνόμῳ καὶ ἀποδοῦναι ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, τοῦ δικαιῶσαι δίκαιον, τοῦ ἀποδοῦναι αὐτῷ κατὰ τὴν δικαιοσύνην αὐτοῦ.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants, condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
καὶ ἐὰν θραυσθῇ ὁ λαός σου Ἰσραὴλ κατέναντι τοῦ ἐχθροῦ ἐὰν ἁμάρτωσίν σοι, καὶ ἐπιστρέψωσιν καὶ ἐξομολογήσονται τῷ ὀνόματί σου καὶ προσεύξονται καὶ δεηθῶσιν ἐναντίον σου ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τούτῳ,
When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and they return to You and confess Your name, praying and pleading before You in this temple,
καὶ σὺ εἰσακούσῃ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἵλεως ἔσῃ ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις λαοῦ σου Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀποστρέψεις αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ἔδωκας αὐτοῖς καὶ τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν.
then may You hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel. May You restore them to the land You gave to them and their fathers.
ἐν τῷ συσχεθῆναι τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ μὴ γενέσθαι ὑετὸν ὅτι ἁμαρτήσονταί σοι, καὶ προσεύξονται εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον καὶ αἰνέσουσιν τὸ ὄνομά σου, καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιστρέψουσιν ὅτι ταπεινώσεις αὐτοὺς·
When the skies are shut and there is no rain because Your people have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have afflicted them,
καὶ σὺ εἰσακούσῃ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἴλεαως ἔσῃ ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις τῶν παίδων σου καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ σου Ἰσραήλ, ὅτι δηλώσεις αὐτοῖς τὴν ὁδὸν τὴν ἀγαθὴν ἐν ἦ πορεύσονται ἐν αὐτῇ, καὶ δώσεις ὑετὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν σου ἣν ἔδωκας τῷ λαῷ σου εἰς κληρονομίαν.
then may You hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk. May You send rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.
λιμὸς ἐὰν γένηται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, θάνατος ἐὰν γένηται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ἀνεμοφθορία καὶ ἴκτερος, ἀκρὶς καὶ βροῦχος ἐὰν γένηται, ἐὰν θλίψῃ αὐτὸν ὁ ἐχθρὸς κατέναντι τῶν πόλεων αὐτῶν, κατὰ πᾶσαν πληγὴν καὶ πᾶν πόνον,
When famine or plague comes upon the land, or blight or mildew or locusts or grasshoppers, or when their enemies besiege them in their cities, whatever plague or sickness may come,
καὶ πᾶσα προσευχὴ καὶ πᾶσα δέησις ἡ ἐὰν γένηται ἀνθρώπῳ καὶ παντὶ λαῷ σου Ἰσραήλ, ἐὰν γνῷ ἄνθρωπος τὴν ἁφὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν μαλακίαν αὐτοῦ, καὶ διαπετάσῃ τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦτον,
then may whatever prayer or plea Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
καὶ σὺ εἰσακούσῃ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐξ ἑτοίμου κατοικητηρίου σου καὶ ἰάσῃ, καὶ δώσεις ἀνδρὶ κατὰ τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ ὡς ἂν γνῷς τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ, ὅτι μόνος γινώσκεις τὴν καρδίαν υἱῶν ἀνθρώπαων·
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You forgive and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of men—
ὅπως φοβῶνται πάσας ὁδοὺς σου πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας ἂς αὐτοὶ ζῶσιν ἐπὶ προσώπου τῆς γῆς ἧς ἔδωκας τοῖς πατράσιν ἡμῶν.
so that they may fear You and walk in Your ways all the days they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.
καὶ πᾶς ἀλλότριος ὅς οὐκ ἐκ τοῦ λαοῦ Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν αὐτός, καὶ ἔλθῃ ἐκ γῆς μακρόθεν διὰ τὸ ὄνομά σου τὸ μέγα καὶ τὴν χεῖρά σου τὴν κραταιὰν καὶ τὸν βραχίονά σου τὸν ὑψηλόν, καὶ ἔλ. θωσιν καὶ προσεύξωνται εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον,
And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
καὶ εἰσακούσῃ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐξ ἑτοίμου κατοικητηρίου σου, καὶ ποιήσεις κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐὰν ἐπικαλέσηταί σε ὁ ἀλλότριος, ὅπως γνῶσιν πάντες οἱ λαοὶ τῆς γῆς τὸ ὄνομά σου, καὶ τοῦ φοβεῖσθαί σε ὡς ὁ λαός σου Ἰσραήλ, καὶ τοῦ γνῶναι ὅτι ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά σου ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦτον ὃν οἰκοδόμησα.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
ἐὸν δὲ ἐξέλθῃ ὁ λαός σου εἰς πόλεμον ἐπὶ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν ὁδῷ ἦ ἀποστελεῖς αὐτούς, καὶ προσεύξονται πρὸς σὲ κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν τῆς πόλεως ταύτης ἣν ἐξελέξω ἐν αὐτῇ καὶ οἴκου οὗ οἰκοδόμηκα τῷ ὀνόματί σου,
When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You in the direction of this city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name,
καὶ ἀκούσῃ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τῆς δεήσεως αὐτῶν καὶ τῆς προσευχῆς αὐτῶν, καὶ ποιήσεις τὸ δικαίωμα αὐτῶν.
then may You hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and may You uphold their cause.
ὅτι ἁμαρτήσονταί σοι, ὅτι οὐκ ἔσται ἄνθρωπος ὀς οὐχ ἁμαρτήσεται, καὶ πατάξεις αὐτοὺς καὶ παραδώσεις αὐτοὺς κατὰ πρόσωπον ἐχθρῶν, καὶ αἰχμαλωτεύσουσιν οἱ αἰχμαλωτεύοντες αὐτοὺς εἰς γῆν ἐχθρῶν εἰς γῆν μακρὰν ἡ ἐγγύς,
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as captives to a land far or near,
καὶ ἐπιστρέψωσιν καρδίαν αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ γῆ αὐτῶν οὗ μετήχθησαν ἐκεῖ, καί γε ἐπιστρέψωσιν καὶ δεηθῶσίν σου ἐν τῇ αἰχμαλωσίᾳ αὐτῶν λέγοντες Ἰμάρτομεν, ἡδίκήσαμεν, ἠνομήσαμεν,
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they repent and plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
καὶ ἐπιστρέψωσιν πρὸς σὲ ἐν ὅλῃ καρδίᾳ καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ ψυχῇ αὐτῶν ἐν γῇ αἰχμαλωτευσάντων αὐτούς, καὶ προσεύξονται ὁδὸν γῆς αὐτῶν ἧς ἔδωκας τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν καὶ τῆς πόλεως ἧς ἐξελέξω καὶ τοῦ οἵκου οὗ ᾠκοδόμησα τῷ ὀνόματί σου,
and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
καὶ ἀκούσῃ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐξ ἑτοίμου κατοικητηρίου σου τῆς προσευχῆς αὐτῶν καὶ τῆς δεήσεως αὐτῶν, καὶ ποιήσεις κρίματα καὶ ἵλεως ἔσῃ τῷ λαῷ τῷ ἁμαρτόντι σοι.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, their prayer and pleas, and may You uphold their cause. May You forgive Your people who sinned against You.
νῦν, Κύριε, ἔστωσαν δὴ οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ἀνεῳγμένοι καὶ τὰ ὦτά σου ἐπήκοα εἰς τὴν δέησιν τοῦ τόπου τούτου.
Now, my God, may Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.
καὶ νῦν ἀνάστηθι, Κύριε ὁ θεός, εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσίν σου, σὺ καὶ ἡ κιβωτὸς τῆς ἰσχύος σου. ἱερεῖς σου, Κύριε ὁ θεός, ἐνδύσαιντο σαοτηρίαν, καὶ οἱ υἱοί σου εὐφρανθήτωσαν ἐν ἀγαθοῖς.
Now therefore, arise, O LORD God, and enter Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and may Your godly ones rejoice in goodness.
Κύριε ὁ θεός, μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου, μνήσθητι τὰ ἐλέη Δαυεὶδ τοῦ δούλου σου.
O LORD God, do not reject Your anointed one. Remember Your loving devotion to Your servant David.”
