Καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Ἰωσαφὰτ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν πόλει Δαυείδ· καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Ἰωρὰμ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντʼ αὐτοῦ.
And Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And his son Jehoram reigned in his place.
καὶ > αὐτῷ ἀδελφοὶ υἱοὶ Ἰωσαφὰτ ἔξ, καὶ Ἰὴλ καὶ Ζαχαρίας καὶ Μεισαὴλ καὶ Σαφατείας· πάντες οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλέως Ἰούδα.
Jehoram’s brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah; these were all sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel (note: That is, Judah; in 2 Chronicles, Judah is occasionally called Israel, as representative of the true Israel.).
καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῶν δόματα πολλά, ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον καὶ ὅπλα μετὰ πόλεων τετειχισμένων ἐν Ἰούδα· καὶ τὴν βασιλείαν ἔδωκεν τῷ Ἰωράμ, ὅτι οὗτος πρωτότοκος.
Their father had given them many gifts of silver and gold and precious things, as well as the fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram because he was the firstborn.
καὶ ἀνέστη Ἰωρὰμ ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκραταιώθη, καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν πάντας τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀρχόντων Ἰσραήλ.
When Jehoram had established himself over his father’s kingdom, he strengthened himself by putting to the sword all his brothers along with some of the princes of Israel.
ὄντος αὐτοῦ τριάκοντα καὶ δύο ἐτῶν, κατέστη Ἰωρὰμ ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ὀκτὼ ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ.
Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years.
καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδῷ βασιλέως Ἰσραήλ, ὡς ἐποίησεν οἶκος Ἀχαάβ, ὅτι θυγάτηρ Ἀχαὰβ ἦν αὐτοῦ γυνή, καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον Κυρίου.
And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD.
καὶ οὐκ ἐβούλετο Κύριος ἐξολεθρεῦσαι τὸν οἶκον Δαυείδ, διὰ τὴν διαθήκην ἣν διέθετο τῷ Δαυείδ, καὶ ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ δοῦναι αὐτῷ λύχνον καὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας.
Yet the LORD was unwilling to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant He had made with David, and since He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.
ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις ἀπέστη Ἐδὼμ ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἰούδα, καὶ ἐβασίλευσαν ἐφʼ αὐτοὺς βασιλέα.
In the days of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against the hand of Judah and appointed their own king.
καὶ ᾤχετο Ἰωρὰμ μετὰ τῶν ἀρχόντων, καὶ πᾶσα ἡ ἵππος μετʼ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐγένετο καὶ ἠγέρθη νυκτός, καὶ ἐπάταξεν Ἐδὼμ τὸν κυκλοῦντα αὐτὸν καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας τῶν ἁρμάτων, καὶ ἔφυγεν ὁ λαὸς εἰς τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτῶν.
So Jehoram crossed into Edom with his officers and all his chariots. When the Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, he rose up and attacked (note: Or he went out and escaped) by night.
καὶ ἀπέστη ἀπὸ Ἰούδα Ἐδὼμ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης· τότε ἀπέστη Λομνὰ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἀπὸ χειρὸς αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἐνκατέλιπεν Κύριον θεὸν τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ.
So to this day Edom has been in rebellion against the hand of Judah. Likewise, Libnah rebelled against his hand at the same time, because Jehoram had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.
καὶ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἐποίησεν ὑψηλὰ ἐν πόλεσιν Ἰούδα, καὶ ἐξεπόρνευσαν τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐυ Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ ἀπεπλάνησεν τὸν Ἰουδά.
Jehoram had also built high places on the hills of Judah; he had caused the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves and had led Judah astray.
καὶ ἦλθεν αὐτῷ ἐν γραφῇ παρὰ Ἠλειοὺ τοῦ προφήτου λέγων Τάδε λέγει Κύριος θεὸς πατρός σου Δαυείδ Ἀνθʼ ὧν οὐκ ἐπορεύθης ἐν ὁδῷ Ἰωσαφὰτ τοῦ πατρός σου καὶ ἐν ὁδοῖς Ἀσὰ βασιλέως Ἰούδα,
Then a letter came to Jehoram from Elijah the prophet, which stated: “This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah,
καὶ ἐπορεύθης ἐν ὁδοῖς βασιλέως Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἐξεπόρνευσας τὸν Ἰούδαν καὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν Ἰερουσαλὴμ ὡς ἐξεπόρνευσεν οἶκος Ἀχαάβ, καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου υἱοὺς πατρός σου τοὺς ἄγαθοὺς ὑπέρ σὲ ἀπέκτεινας·
but you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and have caused Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab prostituted itself. You have also killed your brothers, your father’s family, who were better than you.
ἰδοὺ Κύριος πατάξει σε πληγὴν μεγάλην ἐν τῷ λαῷ σου καὶ ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς σου καὶ ἐν γυναιξίν σου καὶ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ ἀποσκευῇ σου·
So behold, the LORD is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives, and all your possessions with a serious blow.
καὶ σὺ ἐν μαλακίᾳ πονηρᾷ, ἐν νόσῳ κοιλίας, ἕως οὗ ἐξέλθῃ ἡ κοιλία σου μετὰ τῆς μαλακίας ἐξ ἡμερῶν εἰς ἡμέρας.
And day after day you yourself will suffer from a severe illness, a disease of your bowels, until it causes your bowels to come out.’”
καὶ ἐπήγειρεν Κύριος ἐπὶ Ἰωρὰμ τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους καὶ τοὺς Ἀραβας καὶ τοὺς ὁμόρους τῶν Αἰθιόπων·
Then the LORD stirred against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines and Arabs who lived near the Cushites.
καὶ ἀνέβησαν ἐπὶ Ἰούδαν καὶ κατεδυνάστευον, καὶ ἀπέστρεψαν πᾶσαν τὴν ἀποσκευὴν ἣν εὗρον ἐν οἴκῳ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς θυγατέρας αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐ κατελείφθη αὐτῷ υἱὸς ἀλλ ἣ Οχοζείας ὁ μικρότατος τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ.
So they went to war against Judah, invaded it, and carried off all the possessions found in the king’s palace, along with his sons and wives; not a son was left to him except Jehoahaz (note: Jehoahaz is a variant of Ahaziah; see 2 Chronicles 22:1.), his youngest.
καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα πάντα ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν Κύριος εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν μαλακίαν ἧ οὐκ ἔστιν ἰατρεία.
After all this, the LORD afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels.
καὶ ἐγένετο ἐξ ἡμερῶν εἰς ἡμέρας· καὶ ὡς ἦλθεν καιρὸς τῶν ἡμερῶν ἡμέρας δύο, ἐξῆλθεν ἡ κοιλία αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῆς νόσου, καὶ ἀπέθανεν ἐν μαλακίᾳ πονηρῷ· καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησεν ὁ λαὸς αὐτοῦ ἐκφορὰν καθὼς ἐκφορὰν πατέρων αὐτοῦ.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
ἦν τριάκοντα καὶ δύο ἐτῶν ὅτε ἐβασίλευσεν, καὶ ὀκτὼ ἔτη ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ· καὶ ἐπορεύθη οὐκ ἐν ἐπαίνῳ, καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν πόλει Δαυείδ, καὶ οὐκ ἐν τάφοις τῶν βασιλέων.
Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He died, to no one’s regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
