So ermahne ich euch nun, dass man vor allen Dingen zuerst tue Bitte, Gebet, Fürbitte und Danksagung für alle Menschen,
First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—
für die Könige und alle Obrigkeit, auf dass wir ein ruhiges und stilles Leben führen mögen in aller Gottseligkeit und Ehrbarkeit.
for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.
Denn solches ist gut und angenehm vor Gott, unsrem Heiland,
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
welcher will, dass allen Menschen geholfen werde und sie zur Erkenntnis der Wahrheit kommen.
who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Denn es ist ein Gott und ein Mittler zwischen Gott und den Menschen, nämlich der Mensch Christus Jesus,
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
der sich selbst gegeben hat für alle zur Erlösung, dass solches zu seiner Zeit gepredigt würde;
who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.
dazu ich gesetzt bin als Prediger und Apostel (ich sage die Wahrheit in Christo und lüge nicht), als Lehrer der Heiden im Glauben und in der Wahrheit.
For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.
So will ich nun, dass die Männer beten an allen Orten und aufheben heilige Hände ohne Zorn und Zweifel.
Therefore I want the men everywhere (note: Or in every place (of worship)) to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.
Desgleichen dass die Weiber in zierlichem Kleide mit Scham und Zucht sich schmücken, nicht mit Zöpfen oder Gold oder Perlen oder köstlichem Gewand,
Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
sondern, wie sich's ziemt den Weibern, die da Gottseligkeit beweisen wollen, durch gute Werke.
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.
Ein Weib lerne in der Stille mit aller Untertänigkeit.
A woman (note: Or wife; also in verse 12) must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.
Einem Weibe aber gestatte ich nicht, dass sie lehre, auch nicht, dass sie des Mannes Herr sei, sondern stille sei.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man (note: Or over her husband); she is to remain quiet.
Und Adam ward nicht verführt; das Weib aber ward verführt und hat die Übertretung eingeführt.
And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.
Sie wird aber selig werden durch Kinderzeugen, so sie bleiben im Glauben und in der Liebe und in der Heiligung samt der Zucht.
Women, however, will be saved (note: Literally She, however, will be saved) through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.
