Ihr Lieben, glaubet nicht einem jeglichen Geist, sondern prüfet die Geister, ob sie von Gott sind; denn es sind viel falsche Propheten ausgegangen in die Welt.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Daran sollt ihr den Geist Gottes erkennen: ein jeglicher Geist, der da bekennt, dass Jesus Christus ist in das Fleisch gekommen, der ist von Gott;
By this you will know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
und ein jeglicher Geist, der da nicht bekennt, dass Jesus Christus ist in das Fleisch gekommen, der ist nicht von Gott. Und das ist der Geist des Widerchrists, von welchem ihr habt gehört, dass er kommen werde, und er ist jetzt schon in der Welt.
and every spirit that does not confess Jesus (note: BYZ and TR that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh) is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and which is already in the world at this time.
Kindlein, ihr seid von Gott und habt jene überwunden; denn der in euch ist, ist größer, als der in der Welt ist.
You, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
Sie sind von der Welt; darum reden sie von der Welt, und die Welt hört sie.
They are of the world. That is why they speak from the world’s perspective, and the world listens to them.
Wir sind von Gott, und wer Gott erkennt, der hört uns; welcher nicht von Gott ist, der hört uns nicht. Daran erkennen wir den Geist der Wahrheit und den Geist des Irrtums.
We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. That is how we know the Spirit (note: Or spirit) of truth and the spirit of deception.
Ihr Lieben, lasset uns untereinander liebhaben; denn die Liebe ist von Gott, und wer liebhat, der ist von Gott geboren und kennt Gott.
Beloved, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
Wer nicht liebhat, der kennt Gott nicht; denn Gott ist Liebe.
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Daran ist erschienen die Liebe Gottes gegen uns, dass Gott seinen eingeborenen Sohn gesandt hat in die Welt, dass wir durch ihn leben sollen.
This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only (note: Or only begotten or unique) Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.
Darin steht die Liebe: nicht, dass wir Gott geliebt haben, sondern dass er uns geliebt hat und gesandt seinen Sohn zur Versöhnung für unsre Sünden.
And love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Ihr Lieben, hat uns Gott also geliebt, so sollen wir uns auch untereinander lieben.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Niemand hat Gott jemals gesehen. So wir uns untereinander lieben, so bleibt Gott in uns, und seine Liebe ist völlig in uns.
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God remains in us, and His love is perfected in us.
Daran erkennen wir, dass wir in ihm bleiben und er in uns, dass er uns von seinem Geist gegeben hat.
By this we know that we remain in Him, and He in us: He has given us of His Spirit.
Und wir haben gesehen und zeugen, dass der Vater den Sohn gesandt hat zum Heiland der Welt.
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world.
Welcher nun bekennt, dass Jesus Gottes Sohn ist, in dem bleibt Gott und er in Gott.
If anyone confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
Und wir haben erkannt und geglaubt die Liebe, die Gott zu uns hat. Gott ist die Liebe; und wer in der Liebe bleibt, der bleibt in Gott und Gott in ihm.
And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love; whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
Darin ist die Liebe völlig bei uns, dass wir eine Freudigkeit haben am Tage des Gerichts; denn gleichwie er ist, so sind auch wir in dieser Welt.
In this way, love has been perfected among us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment; for in this world we are just like Him.
Furcht ist nicht in der Liebe, sondern die völlige Liebe treibt die Furcht aus; denn die Furcht hat Pein. Wer sich aber fürchtet, der ist nicht völlig in der Liebe.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love.
Lasset uns ihn lieben; denn er hat uns zuerst geliebt.
We love (note: BYZ and TR We love Him) because He first loved us.
So jemand spricht: „Ich liebe Gott”, und hasst seinen Bruder, der ist ein Lügner. Denn wer seinen Bruder nicht liebt, den er sieht, wie kann er Gott lieben, den er nicht sieht?
If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
Und dies Gebot haben wir von ihm, dass, wer Gott liebt, dass der auch seinen Bruder liebe.
And we have this commandment from Him: Whoever loves God must love his brother as well.
