Ne suis-je pas libre ? Ne suis-je pas apôtre ? N'ai-je pas vu Jésus notre Seigneur ? N'êtes-vous pas mon ouvrage dans le Seigneur ?
Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you yourselves not my workmanship in the Lord?
Si pour d'autres je ne suis pas apôtre, je le suis au moins pour vous, car vous êtes le sceau de mon apostolat dans le Seigneur.
Even if I am not an apostle to others, surely I am to you. For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.
N'avons-nous pas le droit de mener avec nous une sœur, comme font les autres Apôtres, et les frères du Seigneur, et Céphas ?
Have we no right to take along a believing wife (note: Literally take along a sister—a wife—), as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas (note: That is, Peter)?
Ou bien sommes-nous les seuls, Barnabé et moi, qui n'ayons pas le droit de ne point travailler ?
Or are Barnabas and I the only apostles who must work for a living (note: Literally Or is it only Barnabas and I who do not have authority not to work?)?
Qui jamais a porté les armes à ses propres frais ? Qui est-ce qui plante une vigne pour n'en pas manger le fruit ? Qui est-ce qui fait paître un troupeau, sans se nourrir de son lait ?
Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Who tends a flock and does not drink of its milk?
Est-ce selon l'homme que je dis ces choses, et la Loi ne les dit-elle pas aussi ?
Do I say this from a human perspective? Doesn’t the Law say the same thing?
Car il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse : " Tu ne muselleras pas la bouche du bœuf qui foule le grain. " Dieu se met-il en peine des bœufs ?
For it is written in the Law of Moses: “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.” Is it about oxen that God is concerned?
N'est-ce pas absolument à cause de nous qu'il parle ainsi ? Oui, c'est à cause de nous que cela a été écrit ; celui qui laboure doit labourer avec espérance, et celui qui foule le grain doit le fouler dans l'espérance d'y avoir part.
Isn’t He actually speaking on our behalf? Indeed, this was written for us, because when the plowman plows and the thresher threshes, they should also expect to share in the harvest.
Si nous avons semé parmi vous les biens spirituels, est-ce une si grosse affaire que nous moissonnions de vos biens matériels ?
If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much for us to reap a material harvest from you?
Si d'autres usent de ce droit sur vous, pourquoi pas plutôt nous-mêmes ! Cependant nous n'avons pas usé de ce droit ; mais nous supportons tout, afin de ne pas créer d'obstacle à l'Evangile du Christ.
If others have this right to your support, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not exercise this right. Instead, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.
Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui remplissent les fonctions sacrées vivent du temple, et que ceux qui servent à l'autel ont part à l'autel ?
Do you not know that those who work in the temple eat of its food, and those who serve at the altar partake of its offerings?
De même aussi le Seigneur a ordonné à ceux qui annoncent l'Evangile de vivre de l'Evangile.
In the same way, the Lord has prescribed that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.
Pour moi, je n'ai fait valoir aucun de ces droits, et ce n'est pas afin de les réclamer en ma faveur que j'écris ceci : il me vaudrait mieux mourir que de me laisser enlever ce titre de gloire.
But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that something be done for me. Indeed, I would rather die than let anyone nullify my boast.
Si j'annonce l'Evangile, ce n'est pas pour moi une gloire, c'est une obligation qui m'incombe, et malheur à moi si je n'annonce pas l'Evangile !
Yet when I preach the gospel, I have no reason to boast, because I am obligated to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!
Si je le faisais de mon propre gré, je mériterais une récompense ; mais je le fais par ordre, alors c'est une charge qui m'est confiée.
If my preaching is voluntary, I have a reward. But if it is not voluntary, I am still entrusted with a responsibility.
Quelle est donc ma récompense ? C'est que prêchant l'Evangile je l'offre gratuitement, sans user de mon droit de prédicateur de l'Evangile.
What then is my reward? That in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not use up my rights in preaching it.
Car, quoique libre à l'égard de tous, je me suis fait le serviteur de tous, afin d'en gagner un plus grand nombre.
Though I am free of obligation to anyone, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.
Avec les Juifs, j'ai été comme Juif, afin de gagner les Juifs ;
To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), to win those under the law.
avec ceux qui sont sous la Loi, comme si j'étais sous la Loi (quoique je ne sois pas assujetti à la Loi), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sous la Loi ; avec ceux qui sont sans la loi, comme si j'étais sans la loi, (quoique je ne sois pas sans la loi de Dieu, étant sous la loi du Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sans loi.
To those without the law I became like one without the law (though I am not outside the law of God but am under the law of Christ), to win those without the law.
Je me suis fait faible avec les faibles, afin de gagner les faibles. Je me suis fait tout à tous, afin de les sauver tous.
To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
Je fais tout à cause de l'Evangile, afin d'y avoir part.
I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.
Ne le savez-vous pas ? Dans les courses du stade, tous courent, mais un seul emporte le prix. Courez de même, afin de le remporter.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way as to take the prize.
Quiconque veut lutter, s'abstient de tout : eux pour une couronne périssable ; nous, pour une impérissable.
Everyone who competes in the games trains with strict discipline. They do it for a crown that is perishable, but we do it for a crown that is imperishable.
Pour moi, je cours de même, non comme à l'aventure ; je frappe, non pas comme battant l'air.
Therefore I do not run aimlessly; I do not fight like I am beating the air.
Mais je traite durement mon corps et je le tiens en servitude, de peur qu'après avoir prêché aux autres, je ne sois moi-même réprouvé.
No, I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
