Καὶ υἱοὶ Ἰούδα· Φἀρες, Ἀρσὼν καὶ Χαρμεὶ καὶ Ὥρ, Σουβάλ,
The descendants of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
καὶ Ῥαδὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ· καὶ Σουβὰλ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἴεθ, καὶ Ἴεθ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἀχειμεὶ καὶ τὸν Λάαθ· αὗται αἱ γενέσεις τοῦ Ἀραθεί.
Reaiah son of Shobal was the father of Jahath, and Jahath was the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the clans of the Zorathites.
καὶ οὗτοι υἱοὶ Αἰτὰν· Ἀζραὴλ καὶ Ῥαγμὰ καὶ Ἰαβάς, καὶ ὄνομα ἀδελφῆς αὐτῶν Ἑσηλεββών.
These were the sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. And their sister was named Hazzelelponi.
καὶ Φανουὴλ πατὴρ Γεδώρ, καὶ Ἀζὴρ πατὴρ Ὡσάν· οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ὥρ τοῦ πρωτοτόκου Ἐφράθα πατρὸς Βαιθλάδεν.
Penuel was the father (note: Or the founder; also in verses 5, 12, 14, 17, 18, and possibly elsewhere) of Gedor, and Ezer was the father of Hushah. These were the descendants of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah and the father of Bethlehem.
καὶ τῷ Σαρὰ πατρὶ Θεκῶε ἦσαν δύο γυναῖκες, Ἀωδὰ καὶ Θοαδά.
Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
καὶ ἔτεκεν αὐτῷ Ἀωδὰ τὸν Ὠχαιὰ καὶ τὸν Ἡφὰλ καὶ τὸν Θαιμὰν καὶ τὸν Ἁσηρόν· πάντες οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ἀἁὡδας.
Naarah bore to him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the descendants of Naarah.
καὶ υἱρὶ Λοάδας· Ἀρεθ καὶ Σάαρ καὶ Σεννών.
The sons of Helah were Zereth, Zohar (note: Alternate MT reading; the other alternate (see also Vulgate) reads Izhar.), Ethnan,
καὶ Κῶε ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἐννὼν καὶ τὸν Σαβαθά, καὶ γεννήσεις ἀδελφοῦ Ῥηχὰβ υἱοῦ Ἱαρείμ.
and Koz, who was the father of Anub and Zobebah and of the clans of Aharhel son of Harum.
Καὶ ἦν Ἰγαβὴς ἔνδοξος ὑπὲρ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἡ μήτηρ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰγαβὴς λέγουσα Ἔτεκον ὡς | γάιβης.
Now Jabez (note: Jabez sounds like the Hebrew for pain or distress.) was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”
καὶ ἐπεκαλέσατο Ἰγαβὴς τὸν θεὸν Ἰσραὴλ λέγων Ἐὰν εὐλογῶν εὐλογήσῃς με. καὶ πληθύνῃς τὰ ὅριά μου, καὶ ἦν ἡ χείρ σου μετʼ ἐμοῦ, καὶ ποιήσῃς γνῶσιν τοῦ μὴ ταπεινῶσαί με. καὶ ἐπήγαγεν ὁ θεὸς πάντα ὅσα ἠτήσατο.
And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only You would bless me and enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.
Καὶ Χαλὲβ πατὴρ Ἀσχὰ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Μαχείρ· οὗτος πατὴρ Ἀσσαθών.
Chelub the brother of Shuhah was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
ἐγέννησεν τὸν Βαθραίαν καὶ τὸυ Βεσσῆε καὶ τὸν Θαιμάν, πατέρα πόλεως Ναὰς ἀδελφοῦ Ἐσελὼν τοῦ Χενεζεί οὗτοι ἄνδρες Ῥηχάβ.
Eshton was the father of Beth-rapha, of Paseah, and of Tehinnah the father of Ir-nahash. These were the men of Recah.
καὶ υἱοὶ Κενέζ· νιὴλ καὶ Σαραιά. καὶ υἱοὶ ΓοθονιήλἈθάθ.
The sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah. The sons of Othniel: Hathath and Meonothai (note: Vulgate and some LXX; Hebrew does not include and Meonothai.).
καὶ Μαναθεὶ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Γοφερά. καὶ Σαραιὰ ἐγέννησεν τὸν Ἰωβὰβ πατέρα Ἀγεαδδαείρ, ὅτι τέκτονες ἦσαν.
Meonothai was the father of Ophrah, and Seraiah was the father of Joab, the father of those living in Ge-harashim, which was given this name because its people were craftsmen (note: Literally Ge-harashim, for they were craftsmen. The Hebrew Ge-harashim means valley of craftsmen.).
καὶ υἱρὶ Χαλὲβ υἱοῦ Ἰεφοννή· Ἤρ, Ἄδαὶ καὶ Νόομ. καὶ υἱοὶ Ἀδά· Κενέζ.
The son (note: Hebrew sons)s of Caleb son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam. The son of Elah: Kenaz.
καὶ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Γεσεήλ, Ἀμηαχεὶ καὶ Ζαρὰ καὶ Ζαιρὰ καὶ Ἰσεραήλ.
The sons of Jehallelel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.
καὶ υἱοὶ Ἐσρεί Ἰεθερεί, Πῶραδ καὶ Ἄφερ καὶ Ἀμών. καὶ ἐγέννησεν Ἰέθερ τὸν Μαιὼν καὶ τὸν Σεμὲν καὶ τὸν Μαρὲθ πατέρα Ἐσθαιμών.
The sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. And Mered’s wife Bithiah gave birth to Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.
καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ, αὕτη Ἁδειά, ἔτεκεν τὸν Ἰάρεδ πατέρα Γεδὼρ καὶ τὸν Ἀβεισὰ πατέρα Σωχὼν καὶ τὸν Χετιὴλ πατέρα Ζαμών· καὶ οὗτοι υἱοὶ Γελιὰ θυγατρὸς Φαραὼ ἣν ἔλαβεν Νωρωήλ.
These were the children of Pharaoh’s daughter Bithiah (note: This statement is at the end of verse 18 in the Hebrew.). Mered also took a Judean (note: Or Judahite) wife, who gave birth to Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.
καὶ υἱοὶ γυναικὸς τῆς Ἰδουίας ἀδελφῆς Νάχεθ καὶ Δαλειλὰ πατὴρ Κεειλά, καὶ Σεμεγὼν πατὴρ Ἰωμάν, καὶ Μαναὴμ πατρὸς Κεειλὰ Ἀταμεὶ καὶ Ἐσθαιμωνὴ Νωχαθεί.
The sons of Hodiah’s wife, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Keilah the Garmite and of Eshtemoa the Maacathite (note: Or were the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maacathite).
καὶ υἱοὶ Σεμιών· Ἀμνὼν καὶ Ἀνὰ υἱὸς Φανὰ καὶ Ἰνών. καὶ υἱοὶ Σεεί Ζωάν. καὶ υἱοὶ Σωάβ,
The sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-hanan, and Tilon. The descendants of Ishi: Zoheth and Ben-zoheth.
υἱοὶ Σηλὼμ υἱοῦ Ἰούδα, Ἢρ πατὴρ Ληχά. πατὴρ Μαιχά· καὶ γενέσεις οἰκιῶν ἐφρὰθ ἀβὰκ τῷ οἴκῳ Ἐσοβά·
The sons of Shelah son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah and the clans of the linen workers at Beth-ashbea,
καὶ Ἰωακεὶμ καὶ ἄνδρες Σωχηθὰ Ἰωαδὰ καὶ Σαιά, οἳ κατῴκησαν ἐν Μωάβ· καὶ ἀπέστρεψεν αὐτοὺς ἁβεδηρεὶν ἀθουκιείν.
Jokim, the men of Cozeba, and Joash and Saraph, who ruled in Moab and Jashubi-lehem. (These names are from ancient records.)
οὗτοι κεραμεῖς οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν Ἀζαεὶμ καὶ Γαβαηρὰ μετὰ τοῦ βασιλέως ἐυ τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ ἐνίσχυσαν καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐκεῖ.
These were the potters who lived at Netaim and Gederah. They lived there in the service of the king.
Υἱοὶ Συμεών· Ναμουὴλ καὶ Ἰαμείν, Ἰαρείν, Ζάρες, Σαούλ·
The descendants of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah (note: Zerah is a variant of Zohar; see Genesis 46:10 and Exodus 6:15.), and Shaul.
Σαλὲμ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Μαβασὰμ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, Μασμὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ,
The sons of Shaul: Shallum, Mibsam, and Mishma.
τῷ Σεμεεὶ υἱοὶ ἑκκαίδεκα καὶ θυγατέρες τρεῖς· καὶ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτῶν οὐκ ἦσαν υἱοὶ πολλοί καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ πατριαὶ αὐτῶν οὐκ ἐπλεόνασαν ὡς υἱοὶ Ἰούδα.
Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers did not have many children, so their whole clan did not become as numerous as the sons of Judah.
καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐν Βηρσάβεε καὶ Σάμα καὶ Μωαλδὰ καὶ Ἐσηρεουλάβ·
They lived in Beersheba, Moladah, Hazar-shual,
καὶ Βαιθμαρειμὼθ καὶ Ἡμισυσεσορὰμ καὶ οἶκον Βραουμσεωρείμ· αὗται πόλεις αὐτῶν ἕως βασιλέως Δαυείδ.
Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Beth-biri, and Shaaraim. These were their cities until the reign of David.
καὶ ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν· Αἰτὰν καὶ Ῥεμμὼν καὶ Θόκκα καὶ Αἰσάρ, πόλεις πέντε.
And their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan—five towns—
καὶ πᾶσαι ἐπαύλεις αὐτῶν κύκλῳ τῶν πόλεων τούτων ἕως Βάλατ· αὕτη κατάσχεσις αὐτῶν καὶ ὁ καταλοχισμὸς αὐτῶν.
and all their surrounding villages as far as Baal (note: Hebrew; some LXX manuscripts (see also Joshua 19:8) Baalath). These were their settlements, and they kept a genealogical record:
καὶ Ἰωήλ· καὶ οὗτος υἱὸς Ἰσαβιὰ υἱὸς Σαρααὺ υἱὸς Ἀσιήλ·
Joel, Jehu son of Joshibiah (son of Seraiah, son of Asiel),
καὶ Ἐλιωναὶ καὶ Ἰωκάβα καὶ Ἰασουιὰ καὶ Ἀσιὰ υἱοὶ Ἀωσὰλ υἱοῦ Σαφὰλ
Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah,
υἱοῦ Ἀμὼν υἱοῦ διὰ υἱοῦ Σαμὰρ υἱοῦ Συμεών.
and Ziza son of Shiphi (son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah).
οὗτοι οἱ διελόντες ἐν ὀνόμασιν ἀρχόντων ἐν ταῖς γενέσεσιν αὐτῶν· καὶ ἐν οἴκοις πατριῶν αὐτῶν ἐπληθύνθησαν εἰς πλῆθος.
These men listed by name were the leaders of their clans. Their families increased greatly,
Καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν Γέραρα ἕως τῶν ἀνατολῶν τῆς Γαί, τοῦ ζητῆσαι νομὰς τοῖς κτήνεσιν αὐτῶν.
and they journeyed to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, in search of pasture for their flocks.
καὶ εὗρον νομὰς πίονας καὶ ἀγαθάς· καὶ ἡ γῆ πλατεῖα ἐναντίον αὐτῶν, καὶ εἰρήνη καὶ ἡσυχία, ὅτι ἐκ τῶν υἱῶυ Χὰμ τῶν κατοικούντων ἐκεῖ ἔμπροσθεν.
There they found rich, good pasture, and the land was spacious, peaceful, and quiet; for some Hamites had lived there formerly.
καὶ ἤλθοσαν οὗτοι γεγραμμένοι ἐπʼ ὀνόματος ἐν ἡμέραις Ἑζεκίου βασιλέως Ἰούδα καὶ ἐπάταξαν τοὺς οἴκους αὐτῶν καὶ τοὺς Μιναίους οὓς εὕροσαν ἐκεῖ, καὶ ἀνεθεμάτισαν αὐτοὺς ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης· καὶ ᾤκησαν ἀντʼ αὐτῶν, ὅτι νομαὶ τοῖς κτήνεσιν αὐτῶν ἐκεῖ
These who were noted by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites in their dwellings as well as the Meunites who were there, devoting them to destruction (note: Forms of the Hebrew cherem refer to the giving over of things or persons to the LORD, either by destroying them or by giving them as an offering.) even to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks.
καὶ ἐξ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν υὰῶν Συμεὼν ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς ὄρος Σηεὶρ ἄνδρες πεντακόσιο, καὶ Φαλαεττειὰ καὶ Νωαδειὰ καὶ Ῥαφαιὰ καὶ Οζειὴλ υἱοὶ Ἰεσθὲν ἄρχοντες αὐτῶν·
And five hundred of these Simeonites led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, went to Mount Seir
καὶ ἐπάταξαν τοὺς καταλειφθέντας τοὺς καταλοίπους τοῦ Ἀμαλὴκ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης.
and struck down the remnant of the Amalekites who had escaped. And they have lived there to this day.
