Καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Χειρὰμ βασιλεὺς Τύρου ἀγγέλους πρὸς Δαυεὶδ καὶ ξύλα κέδρινα καὶ οἰκοδόμους καὶ τέκτονας ξύλων τοῦ οἰκοδομῆσαι αὐτῷ οἶκον.
Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him.
καὶ ἔγνω Δαυεὶδ ὅτι ἡτοίμασεν αὐτὸν Κύριος ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ, ὅτι ηὐξήθη εἰς ὕψος ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ διὰ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had highly exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.
Καὶ ἰλαβεν Δαυεὶδ ἔτι γυναῖκας ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ· καὶ ἐτέχθησαν Δαυεὶδ ἔτι υἱρὶ καὶ θυγατέρες.
And David took more wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters.
καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν τῶν τεχθέντων οἳ ἦσαν αὐτῷ ἐν Ἰερουσαλήμ· Σαμάα, Ἰσοβοάμ, Νάθαν, Σαλωμὼν
These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua (note: Shammua is a variant of Shimea; see 1 Chronicles 3:5.), Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
καὶ Ἐλεισαμάε καὶ Βαλεγδᾶε καὶ Ἐμφάλετ.
Elishama, Beeliada (note: Beeliada is a variant of Eliada; see 2 Samuel 5:16.), and Eliphelet.
Καὶ ἤκουσαν ἀλλόφυλοι ὅτι ἐχρίσθη Δαυεὶδ βασιλεὺς ἐπὶ πάντα Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀνέβησαν πάντες οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι ζητῆσαι τὸν Δαυείδ· καὶ ἤκουσεν Δαυείδ, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτοῖς.
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went out to face them.
καὶ ἀλλόφυλοι ἦλθον καὶ συνέπεσον ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι τῶν γιγάντων.
Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim.
καὶ ἠρώτησεν Δαυεὶδ διὰ τοῦ θεοῦ λέγων Εἰ ἀναβῶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους καὶ δώσεις αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς χεῖράς μου καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριος Ἀνάβηθι, καὶ δώσω αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου.
So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will deliver them into your hand.”
καὶ ἀνέβη εἰς Φααλφαθισείμ, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ Δαυείδ· καὶ εἶπεν Δαυείδ Διέκοψεν τοὺς ἐχθρούς μου ἐν χειρί μου ὡς διακοπὴν ὔδατος· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Διακοπὴ Φαρισἰν.
So David and his men went up to Baal-perazim (note: Baal-perazim means The Lord Bursts Out.), where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a bursting flood, God has burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place Baal-perazim.
καὶ ἐνκατέλιπον τοὺς θεοὺς αὐτῶν, καὶ εἶπεν Δαυεὶδ κατακαῦσαι ἐν πυρί.
There the Philistines abandoned their gods, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
καὶ προσέθεντο ἔτι ἀλλόφυλοι καὶ συνέπεσαν ἔτι ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι τῶν γιγάντων.
Once again the Philistines raided the valley.
καὶ ἠρώτησεν Δαυεὶδ ἔτι ἐν θεῷ, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ θεός Οὐ πορεύσῃ ὀπίσω οὐτων· ἀποστρέφου ἀπʼ αὐτῶν, καὶ παρέσῃ αὐτοῖς πλησίον τῶν ἀπίων.
So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees (note: Or aspen trees or poplar trees; also in verse 15).
καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῷ ἀκοῦσαί σε τὴν φωνὴν τοῦ συνσεισμοῦ αὐτῶν ἄκρων τῶν ἀπίων, τότε ἐξελεύσῃ εἰς τὸν πόλεμον, ὅτι ἐξῆλθεν ὁ θεὸς ἔμπροσθέν σου τοῦ πατάξαι τὴν παρεμβολὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων.
As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
καὶ ἐποίησεν καθὼς ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ ὁ θεός, καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὴν παρεμβολὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων ἀπὸ Γαβαὼν ἕως Γάζαρα.
So David did as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.
καὶ ἐγένετο ὄνομα Δαυεὶδ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῆ, καὶ Κύριος ἔδωκεν τὸν φόβον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη.
And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him.
