תן יסוד למזבח של עולה
דאי סלקא דעתך כדכתיב הני למה לי קרא לשירים שירים הא בראי עביד להו
וכי תימא דאפיך מיפך
apply [the laws of] the base to the altar of burnt-offering.’ For if you think that it is [meant literally] as written, why do I need a text in respect of the residue, seeing that [the pouring out of] the residue was performed without?1 And should you say [that but for the text, I would argue] that it is indeed reversed: meeting’, verses 7 and 8. Obviously then the residue of the blood too would be poured out at the base of the same.
