Καὶ τῇ Νωεμεὶν ἀνὴρ γνώριμος τῷ ἀνδρὶ αὐτῆς· ὁ δὲ ἀνὴρ δυνατὸς ἐκ τῆς συγγενίας ᾿Αβειμέλεχ, καὶ ὄνομα αὐτῶ Βόος.
Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, a prominent man of noble character from the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz.
καὶ ἡ Μωαβεῖτις τοῖς στάχυσιν κατόπισθεν οὗ ἐὰν εὕρω χάριν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῇ Πορεύου, θυγάτηρ.
And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go into the fields and glean heads of grain after someone in whose sight I may find favor.” “Go ahead, my daughter,” Naomi replied.
καὶ ἐπορεύθη, καὶ συνέλεξεν ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ κατόπισθεν τῶν τῶν θεριζόντων· καὶ περιέπεσεν περιπτώματι τῇ μερίδι τοῦ ἀγροῦ Βόος, τοῦ ἐκ συγγενείας ᾿Αβειμέλεχ·
So Ruth departed and went out into the field and gleaned after the harvesters. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelech.
Καὶ ἰδοὺ Βόος ἦλθεν ἐκ Βαιθλέεμ καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς θερίζουσιν Κύριος μεθ’ ὑμῶν· κοὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ Εὐλογήσαι σε Κύριος.
Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and said to the harvesters, “The LORD be with you.” “The LORD bless you,” they replied.
καὶ εἶπεν Βόος τῷ παιδαρίῳ αὐτοῦ τῷ ἐφεστῶτι ἐπὶ τοὺς θερίζοντας τίνος ἡ νεᾶνις αὕτη ;
And Boaz asked the foreman of his harvesters, “Whose young woman is this?”
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη τὸ παιδάριον τὸ ἐφεστὸς ἐπὶ τούς θερίζοντας καὶ εἶπεν Ἡ παῖς ἡ Μωαβεῖτίς ἐστιν, ἡ ἀποστραφεῖσα μετὰ Νωεμεὶν ἐξ ἀγροῦ Μωάβ·
The foreman answered, “She is the Moabitess who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab.
καὶ εἶπεν Συλλέξω δὴ καὶ συνάξω ἐν τοῖς δράγμασιν ὄπισθεν τῶν θεριζόντων· καὶ ἦλθεν καὶ ἔστη ἀπὸ πρωίθεν καὶ ἕως ἑσπέρας, οὐ κατέπαυσεν ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ μικρόν.
She has said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the harvesters.’ So she came out and has continued from morning until now, except that she rested a short time in the shelter.”
καὶ εἶπεν Βόος πρὸς ῾Ρούθ οὐκ ἤκουσας, θυγάτηρ; μὴ πορευθῇς ἐν ἀγρῷ συλλέξαι ἑτέρῳ· καὶ σὺ οὐ πορεύσῃ ἐντεῦθεν, ὧδε κολλήθητι μετὰ τῶν κορασίων μου.
Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Do not go and glean in another field, and do not go away from this place, but stay here close to my servant girls.
οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν οὗ ἐὰν θερίζωσιν, καὶ πορεύση κατόπισθεν αὐτῶν. ἰδοὺ ἐνετειλάμην τοῖς παιδαρίοις τοῦ μὴ ἅψασθαὶ σου· καὶ ὅ τι διψήσεις, καὶ πορευθήσῃ εἰς τὰ σκεύη καὶ πίεσαι ὅθεν ἀν’ ὑδρεύωνται τὰ παιδάρια.
Let your eyes be on the field they are harvesting, and follow along after these girls. Indeed, I have ordered the young men not to touch you. And when you are thirsty, go and drink from the jars the young men have filled.”
καὶ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτῆς καὶ προσεκύνησεν ἑ ’πὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν Τί ὅτι εὗρον χάριν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου τοῦ ἐπιγνῶναί με, καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ξένη ;
At this, she fell on her face, bowing low to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you should take notice of me, even though I am a foreigner?”
καὶ ἀπεκρίθη Βόοσ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ᾿Απαγγελίᾳ ἀπηγγέλη μοι ὅσα πεποίηκας μετὰ τῆς πενθερᾶς σου μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν τὸν ἄνδρα σου, καὶ πῶς κατέλιπες τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα σου καὶ τὴν γῆν γενέσεως σου, καὶ ἐπορεύθης πρὸς λαὸν ὃν οὐκ ᾔδεις ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτης.
Boaz replied, “I have been made fully aware of all you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and how you came to a people you did not know before.
ἀποτίσαι κύριος τὴν ἐργασίαν σου· γένοιτο ὁ μισθός σου πλήρης παρὰ κυρίου θεοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ, πρὸς ὅν ἦλθες πεποιθέναι ὑπὸ τὰς πτέρυγας αὐτοῦ
May the LORD repay your work, and may you receive a rich reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have taken refuge.”
ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Εὔροιμι χάριν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου, κύριε, ὅτι παρεκάλεσάς με, καὶ ὅτι ἐλάλησας ἐπὶ καρδίαν τῆς δούλης σου, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἔσομαι ὡς μία τῶν παιδισκῶν σου.
“My lord,” she said, “may I continue to find favor in your eyes, for you have comforted and spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your servant girls.”
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Βόος Ἤδη ὥρα τοῦ Φαγεῖν, πρόσελθε ὧδε καὶ φάγεσαι τῶν ἄρτων, καὶ βάψεις τὸν ψωμόν σου τῷ ὄξει. καὶ ἐκάθισεν ῾Ροὺθ ἐκ πλαγίων τῶν θεριζόντων· καὶ ἐβούνισεν αὐτῇ Βόος ἄλφιτον, κα ἔφαγεν καὶ ἐνεπλήσθη καὶ κατέλιπεν,
At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here; have some bread and dip it into the vinegar sauce.” So she sat down beside the harvesters, and he offered her roasted grain, and she ate and was satisfied and had some left over.
καὶ ἀνέστη τοῦ συλλέγειν . καὶ ἐνετείλατο βοὸς τοῖς παιδαρίοις αὐτοῦ λέγων καί γε ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν δραγμάτων συλλεγέτω, καὶ μὴ καταισχύνητε αὐτήν·
When Ruth got up to glean, Boaz ordered his young men, “Even if she gathers among the sheaves, do not insult her.
καὶ βαστάζοντες βαστάξατε αὐτῇ, καί γε παραβάλλοντες παραβαλεῖτε ἐκ τῶν βεβουνισμένων· καὶ φάγεται καὶ συλλέξει, καὶ οὐκ ἐπ’ μήσετε αὐτῇ.
Rather, pull out for her some stalks from the bundles and leave them for her to gather. Do not rebuke her.”
καὶ συνέλεξεν ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ ἕως ἑσπέρας, καὶ ἐράβδισεν ἃ συνέλεξεν, καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς οἰφὶ κριθῶν.
So Ruth gathered grain in the field until evening. And when she beat out what she had gleaned, it was about an ephah of barley (note: An ephah is approximately 20 dry quarts or 22 liters (probably about 29 pounds or 13.2 kilograms of barley).).
Καὶ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὴν πόλιν· καὶ εἶδεν ἡ πενθερὰ αὐτῆς ἁ καὶ ἐξενέγκασα ῾Ροὺθ ἔδωκεν αὐτῇ ἃ κατέλιπεν ἐξ ὧν ἐνεπλήσθη.
She picked up the grain and went into the town, where her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. And she brought out what she had saved from her meal and gave it to Naomi.
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ἡ πενθερὰ αὐτῆς Ποῦ συνέλεξας σήμερον καὶ ποῦ ἐποίησας; εἴη ὁ ἐπιγνούς σε εὐλογημένος. καὶ ἀνήγγειλεν ῾Ροὺθ τῆ πενθερᾷ αὐτῆς ποῦ ἐποίησεν, καὶ εἶπεν Τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ ἀνδρὸς μεθ’ οὗ ἐποίησα σήμερον Βόος.
Then her mother-in-law asked her, “Where did you glean today, and where did you work? Blessed be the man who noticed you.” So she told her mother-in-law where she had worked. “The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz,” she said.
καὶ εἶπεν Νωεμεὶν τῇ νύμφη αὐτῆς Εὐλογητός ἐστιν τῷ κυρίῳ, ὅτι οὐκ ἐνκατέλιπεν τὸ ἕλεος αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ζώντων καὶ μετὰ τῶν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Νωεμείν ᾿Εγγίζει ἡμῖν ὁ ἀνήρ, ἐκ τῶν ἡμᾶς ἐστιν.
Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by the LORD, who has not withdrawn His kindness from the living or the dead.” Naomi continued, “The man is a close relative. He is one of our kinsman-redeemers (note: The Hebrew word for kinsman-redeemer or guardian-redeemer is a legal term for the kinsman who redeems or vindicates a relative; see Leviticus 25:25–55.).”
καὶ εἶπεν ῾Ροὺθ πρὸς τὴν πενθερὰν αὐτῆς καἰ γε ὅτι εἶπεν πρὸς μέ Μετὰ τῶν παιδαρίων μου κολλήθητι ἕως ἂν τελέσωσιν ὅλον τὸν ἀμητὸν ὃς ὑπάρχει μοι.
Then Ruth the Moabitess said, “He also told me, ‘Stay with my young men until they have finished gathering all my harvest.’”
καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς ῾Ροὺθ τὴν νύμφην αὐτῆς ᾿Αγαθόν, θυγάτηρ, ὅτι ἑ μετά τῶν κορασίων αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἀπαντήσονταί σοι ἐν ἀγρῷ ἑτέρῳ.
And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law Ruth, “My daughter, it is good for you to work with his young women, so that nothing will happen to you in another field.”
καὶ προσεκολλήθη ῾Ροὺθ τοῖς κορασίοις βοὸς συλλέγειν ἕως οὗ συνετέλεσεν τὸν θερισμὸν τῶν κριθῶν καὶ τῶν πυρῶν. * κοὶ ἐκάθισεν μετὰ τῆς πενθερᾶς αὐτῆς.
So Ruth stayed close to the servant girls of Boaz to glean grain until the barley and wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.
