For the end, a Psalm for the sons of Core, concerning the wine-presses.
A song. A Psalm of Asaph. O God, be not silent; be not speechless (note: Or deaf); be not still, O God.
How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts!
84:1 For the choirmaster. According to Gittith (note: Gittith is probably a musical or liturgical term; here and in Psalms 8 and 81.). A Psalm of the sons of Korah. How lovely is Your dwelling place, O LORD of Hosts!
My soul longs, and faints for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh have exulted in the living God.
84:2 My soul longs, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Yea, the sparrow has found himself a home, and the turtle-dove a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, [even] thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.
84:3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she places her young near Your altars, O LORD of Hosts, my King and my God.
Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will praise thee evermore. Pause.
84:4 How blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They are ever praising You. Selah
Blessed is the man whose help is of thee, O Lord; in his heart he has purposed to go up
84:5 Blessed are those whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
the valley of weeping, to the place which he has appointed, for [there] the law-giver will grant blessings.
84:6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca (note: Or Valley of Poplars), they make it a place of springs; even the autumn rain covers it with pools (note: Or with blessings).
They shall go from strength to strength: the God of gods shall be seen in Sion.
84:7 They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in Zion.
O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: hearken, O God of Jacob. Pause.
84:8 O LORD God of Hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah
Behold, O God our defender, and look upon the face of thine anointed.
84:9 Take notice of our shield, O God, and look with favor on the face of Your anointed.
For one day in thy courts is better than thousands. I would rather be an abject in the house of God, than dwell in the tents of sinners.
84:10 For better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
For the Lord loves mercy and truth: God will give grace and glory: the Lord will not withhold good things from them that walk in innocence.
84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity.
O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusts in thee.
84:12 O LORD of Hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in You!
