A Psalm of Asaph. God presides in the divine assembly; He renders judgment among the gods:
מִזְמ֗וֹר לְאָ֫סָ֥ף אֱֽלֹהִ֗ים נִצָּ֥ב בַּעֲדַת־ אֵ֑ל בְּקֶ֖רֶב אֱלֹהִ֣ים יִשְׁפֹּֽט׃
“How long will you judge unjustly (note: Or How long will you defend the unjust) and show partiality to the wicked? Selah
עַד־ מָתַ֥י תִּשְׁפְּטוּ־ עָ֑וֶל וּפְנֵ֥י רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים תִּשְׂאוּ־ סֶֽלָה׃
Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; uphold the rights of the afflicted and oppressed.
שִׁפְטוּ־ דַ֥ל וְיָת֑וֹם עָנִ֖י וָרָ֣שׁ הַצְדִּֽיקוּ׃
Rescue the weak and needy; save them from the hand of the wicked.
פַּלְּטוּ־ דַ֥ל וְאֶבְי֑וֹן מִיַּ֖ד רְשָׁעִ֣ים הַצִּֽילוּ׃
They do not know or understand; they wander in the darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
לֹ֤א יָֽדְע֨וּ׀ וְלֹ֥א יָבִ֗ינוּ בַּחֲשֵׁכָ֥ה יִתְהַלָּ֑כוּ יִ֝מּ֗וֹטוּ כָּל־ מ֥וֹסְדֵי אָֽרֶץ׃
I have said, ‘You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High (note: Cited in John 10:34).’
אֲֽנִי־ אָ֭מַרְתִּי אֱלֹהִ֣ים אַתֶּ֑ם וּבְנֵ֖י עֶלְי֣וֹן כֻּלְּכֶֽם׃
But like mortals you will die, and like rulers you will fall.”
אָ֭כֵן כְּאָדָ֣ם תְּמוּת֑וּן וּכְאַחַ֖ד הַשָּׂרִ֣ים תִּפֹּֽלוּ׃
Arise, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are Your inheritance.
קוּמָ֣ה אֱ֭לֹהִים שָׁפְטָ֣ה הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֥ה תִ֝נְחַ֗ל בְּכָל־ הַגּוֹיִֽם׃
