Psalms 6

World English Bible British Edition · Berean Standard Bible

6:1
LORD, don’t rebuke me in your anger,
For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments, according to Sheminith (note: Sheminith is probably a musical term; here and in 1 Chronicles 15:21 and Psalm 12:1.). A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.
6:2
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint.
Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am frail; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are in agony.
6:3
My soul is also in great anguish.
My soul is deeply distressed. How long, O LORD, how long?
6:4
Return, LORD. Deliver my soul,
Turn, O LORD, and deliver my soul; save me because of Your loving devotion.
6:5
For in death there is no memory of you.
For there is no mention of You in death; who can praise You from Sheol?
6:6
I am weary with my groaning.
I am weary from groaning; all night I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
6:7
My eye wastes away because of grief.
My eyes fail from grief; they grow dim because of all my foes.
6:8
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity,
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard my weeping.
6:9
The LORD has heard my supplication.
The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.
May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed.
All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.
