Psalms 5

Brenton's English Septuagint · Berean Standard Bible

5:1
For the end, a Psalm of David, concerning her that inherits.
For the choirmaster, to be accompanied by flutes. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning.
5:2
Hearken to my words, O Lord, attend to my cry.

5:3
Attend to the voice of my supplication, my King, and my God: for to thee, O Lord, will I pray.
5:2 Attend to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I pray.
5:4
In the morning thou shalt hear my voice: in the morning will I wait upon thee, and will look up.
5:3 In the morning, O LORD, You hear my voice; at daybreak I lay my plea before You and wait in expectation.
5:5
For thou art not a God that desires iniquity; neither shall the worker of wickedness dwell with thee.
5:4 For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; no evil can dwell with You.
5:6
Neither shall the transgressors continue in thy sight: thou hatest, O Lord, all them that work iniquity.
5:5 The boastful cannot stand in Your presence; You hate all workers of iniquity.
5:7
Thou wilt destroy all that speak falsehood: the Lord abhors the bloody and deceitful man.
5:6 You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.
5:8
But I will enter into thine house in the multitude of thy mercy: I will worship in thy fear toward thy holy temple.
5:7 But I will enter Your house by the abundance of Your loving devotion (note: Forms of the Hebrew chesed are translated here and in most cases throughout the Scriptures as loving devotion; the range of meaning includes love, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, and mercy, as well as loyalty to a covenant.); in reverence I will bow down toward Your holy temple.
5:9
Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make my way plain before thy face.
5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make straight Your way before me.
For there is no truth in their mouth; their heart is vain; their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit.
5:9 For not a word they speak can be trusted; destruction lies within them. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit (note: Or flattery; cited in Romans 3:13).
Judge them, O God; let them fail of their counsels: cast them out according to the abundance of their ungodliness; for they have provoked thee, O Lord.
5:10 Declare them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own devices. Drive them out for their many transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.
But let all that trust on thee be glad in thee: they shall exult for ever, and thou shalt dwell among them; and all that love thy name shall rejoice in thee.
5:11 But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them ever shout for joy. May You shelter them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.
For thou, Lord, shalt bless the righteous: thou hast compassed us as with a shield of favour.
5:12 For surely You, O LORD, bless the righteous; You surround them with the shield of Your favor.
