54:1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. A Maskil (note: Maskil is probably a musical or liturgical term; used for Psalms 32, 42, 44–45, 52–55, 74, 78, 88–89, and 142.) of David. When the Ziphites went to Saul and said, “Is David not hiding among us?” Save me, O God, by Your name, and vindicate me by Your might!
when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Lo, is not David hid with us?
54:2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.
Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy might.

Selah
O God, hear my prayer; hearken to the words of my mouth.
54:2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. 54:4 Surely God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul.
For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life: they have not set God before them. Pause.
54:3 For strangers rise up against me, and ruthless men seek my life—men with no regard for God. Selah 54:5 He will reward my enemies with evil. In Your faithfulness, destroy them.
For lo! God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul.
54:4 Surely God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul. 54:6 Freely I will sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good.
He shall return evil to mine enemies; utterly destroy them in thy truth.
54:5 He will reward my enemies with evil. In Your faithfulness, destroy them. 54:7 For He has delivered me from every trouble, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.
I will willingly sacrifice to thee: I will give thanks to thy name, O Lord; for [it is] good.
54:6 Freely I will sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good.
For thou hast delivered me out of all affliction, and mine eye has seen [my desire] upon mine enemies.
54:7 For He has delivered me from every trouble, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.
