53:1

For the end, among the Hymns of instruction by David,

^54:1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. of David. When the Ziphites went to Saul and said, “Is David not hiding among us?” Save me, O God, by Your name, and vindicate me by Your might!

53:2

when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Lo, is not David hid with us?

^54:2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.

53:3

Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy might.

53:4

O God, hear my prayer; hearken to the words of my mouth.

^54:2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. ^54:4 Surely God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul.

53:5

For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life: they have not set God before them. Pause.

^54:3 For strangers rise up against me, and ruthless men seek my life—men with no regard for God. Selah ^54:5 He will reward my enemies with evil. In Your faithfulness, destroy them.

53:6

For lo! God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul.

^54:4 Surely God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul. ^54:6 Freely I will sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good.

53:7

He shall return evil to mine enemies; utterly destroy them in thy truth.

^54:5 He will reward my enemies with evil. In Your faithfulness, destroy them. ^54:7 For He has delivered me from every trouble, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

53:8

I will willingly sacrifice to thee: I will give thanks to thy name, O Lord; for [it is] good.

^54:6 Freely I will sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good.

53:9

For thou hast delivered me out of all affliction, and mine eye has seen [my desire] upon mine enemies.

^54:7 For He has delivered me from every trouble, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.
